Honestly, thinking about it more, is the Big Boss / Venom Snake of MG2 / MG1 that different from the Big Boss of Peace Walker / The Phantom Pain except the perspective the stories are told?

1) Held the world hostage with nuclear weapons - How is this different then what he does in Peace Walker. Part of the reason for what happens in Ground Zeroes is due to him having a Nuclear Weapon.

2) "Turning War Orphans into Child Soldiers" - This may be a perspective thing as from the outside you could perceive the same thing of them in The Phantom Pain. They could be just giving them a home like in TPP and they are volunteering as they age.

3) Wanting perpetual war - Is this not what the MSF was about in the first place? Freedom for soldiers, to be without borders, via conflict.

4) Kidnapping Scientists - The entire gameplay concept of MGS: PW and TPP is around kidnapping people to join your army.

We get Snake and Campbell's perspective of Big Boss during MG1 and MG2. Don't you think their perspective may be skewed and off the truth.

So in summary, Big Boss is a fallen hero who had noble goals but went down the wrong path into darkness.

no, Big Boss had already turned into a demon by MGSV, we just never saw it.

That's what I'm saying? I'm saying it's not an experiment and they just did it as an additional fucked up thing to do to him.

You're putting more thought into it than the writers did. It's pointless plotting. You don't set something like that up if you're not going to do anything with it, especially when the "removed organs" tape about Paz serves as foreshadowing that what you're seeing in TPP with her isn't possible in the first place.

Like I said, it's just another notch on the list of unanswered questions. Really, they just treated the Chico character like crap.

The whol brainwashing thing is pretty funny. There's a tape in TPP where Venom calls out exactly that. Ocelot's talking about some fucked up mind control or brainwashing someone is doing and Venom's like "but yo, we do that too?"

You're putting more thought into it than the writers did. It's either overkill or pointless plotting. You don't set something like that up if you're not going to do anything with it.

I'm doing the exact opposite of putting more thought into it. I'm really confused by how you are responding. I'm saying it is overkill, just another fucked up thing Skullface did to Chico.

MGS2: An Illuminati organization that controls the US and the world, led by 12 mysterious individuals. They have created an AI for the purpose of controlling the Internet and the AI considers The Patriots true form and power to actually be American ideals in the minds of the populace. It turns out that one of them aided Philanthropy, yet all 12 of them died over 100 years ago and have a connection to Manhattan.

MGS3: There was actually an organization called The Philosophers who were all just really rich and powerful old dudes in America, the Soviet Union, and China right after World War I who really wanted to kill bad guys with cool expensive guns so they set up a Gofundme for cool gun stuff. The organization all split up after WWII and their money got lost. Eventually they all died or got replaced by The Patriots in America during the Cold War.

MGS4: The Patriots were actually Big Boss and Big Boss's friends (including the woman who cloned the Snakes and experimented on Gray Fox and the Genome Soldiers, a young DARPA Chief, Solid and Liquid's mom, and Ocelot) who got all The Philosopher's moolah and replaced them. Big Boss's commanding officer is their leader. They exist because they were all really sad about The Boss. All the stuff about them dying 100 years before MGS2 was a ruse about the founders of The Philosophers which is a bit of fuzzy math since it's more like 70-80 years and that's if we're only talking founding members but okay. They all split up because of drama bombs and Ocelot was actually on Big Boss's side and the AIs (the one in MGS2 was actually only just one) have actually been running the world and communications for some undetermined amount of time.

PW/GZ/MGSV: Zero actually created an organization called Cipher because it was some hilarious wordplay about his name or something and they used an AI after Otacon's mom made an AI based on The Boss that was installed in the first ever Metal Gear. The AIs were named The Patriots after the DARPA Chief effectively took over because Zero was infected with throat bugs by a guy named Skull Face (his face looks like a skull).
MGS was a mistake. Its nothing but trash.

So i just finished Chapter 1 and I seriously have no fucking idea what's going on, this game is ridiculous. The Metal Gear is mental, it's pretty much a prototype Jehuty. The level of technology in this game compared to 1, 2 and 4 is absolutely bonkers. Guess now I need to go through the remixed missions and such to finish Chapter 2 and get whatever the ending is.

To be honest this is probably my least liked of the 5 main games so far.

Nah I don't think his goals are noble at all, the dude wants to create a perpetual war machine. The ending of PW clearly shows this. Both Zero and BB are like two extreme of opposite side. One wants full control, while the other one wants anarchy. It is like there is no middle path for these guys.

Which this game was supposed to show the downfall but Kojima says "nah bro, take Venom lulz."

That is the thing, No one said which "Big Boss"

Both Venom and Naked are Big Boss. If Venom became a demon based on your actions, there you go. Regardless, both Venom and Naked now add to the legend of Big Boss. That is what Big Boss is at this point, a Legendary soldier. The whole game focused on that, The Legendary Soldier, Big Boss. They even flat out say, no one knows how Big Boss looks, they just know the name and of his legend, You are building his Legend as Venom. Both are Big Boss.
In addition, i think the main point of this game was to fill the missing link between GZ to MG1, which it Kinda did.

Such a lust for trash. WHOOOOOOOOOOOO

Lets be clear, Big Boss is and was responsible for what ever Venom did. Even if it was Venom that went off the deep end near the final years of his life it's ultimately because Big Boss let a random dude live a lie for years on end and became him for his own personal protection and master plan.

Personally, I found it ridiculous how evil they made Huey. There was no other side to him except being a jerk.

When Otacon said he had to atone for his family he wasn't joking.

Even though it was all Zero's doing.

Big Boss 'said Big Boss' because he is Big Boss. He himself is the one who illustrates he is a demon. "Create victims, nurse and raise the child survivors, feed them into the next conflict to repeat the cycle."

Its not a case of 'we never got the full picture, Big Boss was framed!'.

His life was exaggerated. Eva says as much. But he himself shows he's not a friendly guy.

Finished mission 45. This game is all over the place. I think I am done at 69%. I saw all the endings and I feel content with MGSV. I wish it was a more cohesive story though...

You know how kojima operates, he likes to trick you. By the end of this game we get two Big Bosses. In addition, they only referred to snake as Snake, or Venom Snake.

Everything you said here, Venom did in the Outer Heaven uprising as well in MG1. Once again, we go back to, WHICH Big BOSS?

Both are one character, One was given a mission and granted the honor of being another Big BOss. Both add to that legend, both did the same actions with the same motivations.

Kojima pulled a fast one on us based on that.

I'm surprised nobody has the Platinum yet. Nobody has completed all mission tasks. Wonder what's holding them back?

some of the tasks are bullshit. thats what

Yes. Big Boss is pretty much already a huge jerk at this point. He used and manipulated his own loyal follower. It seems like Venom did most of the hard yards building up the Big Boss image.

I personally don't have the same problem, but people like Ishida apparently can't get themselves to play more knowing what they ended up knowing.

Did anyone ever figure out what that scrambled audio tape in Ground Zeros was?

Cause it makes the same sound as the Operation Intrude at the end of Phantom Pain.

Way later though. Zero basically orchestrates the whole thing and Boss just goes with it. Do we ever get confirmation on how long BB gets out of his coma before Venom?

Zero goes along with it to protect Big Boss. No, a date is not given for when he wakes up.

Its his final act before going into a coma himself. He wasn't doing it with the intention of creating war mongers. That's all Venom and BB's doing.

In MGS2 it was canonized that he tried to drown his stepdaughter.

Yeah hes a monster. Huey more like Lewie.

Huh. I thought that was an accident. Even then, I don't think complete monster is very interesting characterization. Where do you even go with that?
