Why the picture of NY then? I took it as an homage to MGS2's switcheroo lol or maybe that's where Zero is hiding. Who the fuck knows.
It's showing New York, but it seems like an in-game render and not a photograph, which is a lot of effort to go through for nothing.

Two towers = two Snakes, some shit like that.

Arsenal Gear also hits the Twin Towers in MGS2 (deleted scene, though)

Well, I believed in the Last Guardian. I believe in this. If we wish hard enough it will happen. If it doesn't happen, somebody didn't wish hard enough. Looking at you, raiden.

EDIT:
Looking at it again I'm not sure if it's the Fox Engine or not. My immediate impression is no.

And, yeah, that's very clearly a real picture of NYC

Oh, Kojima you sly dog, All aboard the Hype Train!!!!

Just finished the game and I feel like the story was definately the weakest of the main series. It just didn't have the charm of MGS1 and 3, the clever execution of MGS2 or the feeling of finality of MGS4 (heck, they even cut the ending for this one). There were a few scenes I liked but as a whole I feel the story wasn't as grand as I was expecting. The twist really didn't matter in the end, it just made it another game where Big Boss didn't get closer to becoming a villain or whatever, hell, I feel like we have been promised 3 times now the true origin of Outer Haven :D. The fact that Big Boss was a fake didn't really blow my mind or anything cause it had very little impact on the story of the game as a whole and while some details certainly were a good surprise the Ishmael might be Big Boss wasn't exactly a huge leap in the prologue.

One thing I was really dissapointed by is that it really felt super tame as a revenge story. I was expecting it to be much darker and really the driving force for the narrative. Not once I truly felt I was out for revenge. Miller was the only element that felt correct and he was by far my favourite character. When I saw the 2013 E3 trailer I was really pumped at the idea of raising a new army for this grand revenge story where you would really get your hands dirty.

The biggest problem I have was the pacing, especially for an MGS title. That said the gameplay is far, FAR more fun than what I expected. One of the very few ''open world'' games that the gameplay can carry for tens of hours.

Also I'm so fuckin done with Big Boss/The Boss/Zero triangle even after Peace Walker+4. It just doesn't carry much impact with me. The Boss was an interesting, mysterious character in 3 but as an overarching plot of the series it really fell flat for me. I hope MGS6 goes for something totally fresh.

Did anyone else notice that during the quarantine mission where you go in and kill some of your infected men, that anything you were wearing or had equipped was not reflected in either the cut-scenes or the gameplay? It was just Olive Drab fatigues and the standard pistol with suppressor and the standard submachine gun with suppressor and flashlight.

It feels strange considering that all the other cutscenes take note of what you are wearing and what items you have equipped. Did they just forget about this one?!?

I can't believe how badly the story was misrepresented in the trailers. Its as bad as the Village if anyone remembers the marketing for that movie.

Or the people theorizing that Venom Snake was actually the medic.

People need to stop brining this fucking thing up.

Medic=Snake was a possibilitie due to actual things we were shown. We were shown he had Kiefer's voice pitched down (one hint), we never actually saw his face, they were careful to always hide it (two hint), Ishmael had Kiefers voice in trailers while showing you play as BB (three hint), Ishmaels face was covered and you couldn't see it (four hint), "what about him" (five hint). Plenty of hints that at least made Snake is the medic at least potentially plausible.

Hayter = Big boss had nothing because there was not hint at all that he was in the game apart from disgusting "fans" of his not trusting him and constantly bugging him about losing his biggest role despite him constantly saying he wasn't in it and won't be voicing Snake.

Quiet being Chico had nothing going for it either apart from Paz telling Chico to "be quiet" and Kojima saying the words and deeds thing leading people to somehow jump to that meaning that Quiet is a male to female transexual.

The 9/11 thing only has a random unrelated website spouting bullshit, the fact 9/11 is a day of sadness for many, many people and that Liquid says he's catchphrase line over a picture of New York, which could mean he is planning 9/11, could mean he is giving us content on 9/11 or could mean that Liquid is vowing revenge against America/the patriots and Big Boss and a hint towards the Shadow Moses incident by showing New York City and the statue of liberty one of the most American images you can pick.

Or when people thought that Quiet was actually a grown up Chico who cut out his tongue and had a sex change due to the trauma he suffered in Ground Zeroes.

Or when people thought that Kojima wasn't fired and his name being erased from all his games was part of a viral marketing stunt.

Or when people thought all that head transplant stuff was just a viral marketing stunt for MGSV because the doctor doing the operation kinda looked like the doctor from the trailers.

Forgot to add these too.

So yeah... I'm going with "A broken clock is right twice a day" thing here. Crazy conspiracy theorists will eventually get something right.

This 9/11 stuff is going to end the same as people desperately thinking Hayter was actually in the game and not being serious on twitter.

Come on son, lets not act like they aren't fucking identical

They wanted it to be an actual, serious moment so they put you in the absolute default stuff with no weapons because it's stuff everyone will have (olive drab, no guns, default arm etc). If you did that mission as PS1 Solid Snake then it wouldn't have the impact. Or if you did it topless in the Animal Print pants with a golden bling arm.

Oh man, I TOTALLY forgot about that real life doctor thing.

If Kojima actually did anything this dumb surrounding 9/11 he would have to be not only a sociopath with no empathy for tragedy but also ignorant af

Yeah I think I would put my controller down, and think much less of the Japanese at that point... in all my cultural studies of Japan... they have zero cultural sensitivity... they need to let the Meiji era go, they still cling to way too many of the ideologies and social themes from that time. I guess that's what happens when your emperor goes all "We're the chosen people! Way more superior than anyone else!"

"Hypersensitive"

People died. Like... I'm not one who thinks that 9/11 can be used to justify everything the US does but people died.

It was a massive tragedy and a lot of people still mourn... A lot of innocent people died that day...

That movie was so incredibly bad. Its marketing and unnecessary hype contributed to my opinion of it. The one takeaway I have from that movie that gives me solace, is that I heard that M. Night Shyamalan asked critics during the premiere after-party not to mention that they hated the movie or that they didn't reveal the "big twist", for fear that it would hurt ticket sales for the movie. Yeah, that movie sucked.

Ooooookay let's not turn this into a cultural imperialism discussion

I'm surprised there's not more outrage.

As someone brilliantly phrased it in this thread, we bought the game expecting a demon Big Boss but ended up being told the story of his pretty damn kind Medic.

Yeah.

I'm all for treating it as a normal day in regards to media releases and all that. Like Mario Maker releasing, some people are all "eeeeeeeeeeeh thats bad" which is stupid. But it was still a tragedy and still "recent" that you probably shouldn't use the day as a marketting stunt. Like Mario just happens to launch on that day, it's not using the day to boost sales or to trick people but a Japanese company using the day to release DLC for its military style game that deals heavily with terrorism seems like something you probably shouldn't do out of respect.

I mainly think there hasn't been a big of an outrage because the game itself is simply amazing and many haven't seen the end yet.

though i suppose that's kind of the point

big boss is shady as fuck for letting the medic unknowingly take his place during an immensely dangerous time in his life.

If some people weren't fanboys of Kojima who are blind to his many faults then there would be more people outraged.

I'm not outraged because that makes it seem I was entitled to the story I wanted. I am however super disappointed in the narrative and themes of MGSV and think it absolutely didn't deliver on what was promised in trailers and interviews and also that nearly every single cutscene was actually shown in the trailers.

Same tbh. Like Nintendo releasing Mario Maker is not a big deal, but using it as a marketing stunt or something is tacky and tasteless.
