The indoctrination theory for ME did seem legit though.

It seemed legit based on denial fuelling a confirmation bias. It was patterns in the clouds to support an argument that ultimately hinged on "BioWare couldn't possibly have fucked it up".

I was being sarcastic lol, of course it didn't hold weight. BioWare fucked up. They done fucked up good.

For a short time, Jessica Merizan was telling me she was considering buying into it, even. I literally told her it was bogus.

I'm just imagining Kojima in a meeting with top Konami brass, telling them about his 9/11 marketing stunt.

Why did they feel the need to add that Paz scene? It's not like Paz does anything to add to the current story or characters. This is easily the dumbest scene in the entire game, and I can't comprehend why they felt the need to put it in the game. I hate it when games/movies do that. They show you a critical story moment, and then they modify it later just to add some dumb twist.

"You're not playing as the real Big Boss" was literally one of the earliest, most prominent theories regarding the game dating back to the very first revelation that The Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes were linked. The writing was on the wall from the start.

Mmhmm. One of the first things I remember watching about TPP on YouTube was that you weren't actually playing as Big Boss but rather Grey Fox.

I tried to forget that because I was scared it might have turned out to be true and I'd been subsequently ruined for when I got the game.

I never did. And remembering that "theory" just made me pay more attention to the weird comments about appearances and what not throughout the earlier chapters.

Have you been collecting the photos from the Mother Base wayward soldiers Side Ops, and then showing them to Paz?

It's to show you how Venom could have hallucinations, it's basically fuel for people to say "well if he hallucinated Paz, Ocelot and Kaz, he could have hallucinated the whole game"

Saying that, he really could have...

I guess while I like the idea of the Paz scenes they make less sense the more I think about it.

Did Venom mention it to anyone on base? Did nobody think to investigate this?

Maybe Venom never actually woke up.

The whole game was just a dream in his coma.

Creepypasta and all.
Yep, it may well could be, Venom could do Freddy Kruger type shit though! That's how Solid Beat up Big Boss's phantom!

Nope. No one ever mentions it at all. Makes sense that it's optional.

Watch the announcement tomorrow (if there is one) be that the recently discovered ancient virus actually be vocal chord parasites. The twist is that Kojima called the future again.

Indoctrination Theory is clearly a FACT guys lol check out my five hours of youtube documentaries exposing the TRUTH #beleive

Thank you for not propelling that crap-o-la.

I hope something comes out just because I have nothing left in the game to do.

Even dicking around is not fun anymore because of playing stealthily all game. Now if a guard sees a leaf move from 900m away they call a map wide alert and call in riot gear people. Fuck you adaptive AI ; _;

i did and my judgement is its pretty weird

You know, if the game actually stuck to being Big Boss instead but still have this whole illusion schtick going, I could see a scene like this playing out (Gravity spoilers) with maybe The Boss involved.

Yeah, I know, this series has had too much of The Boss already but considering that I thought this was gonna be the last BB game it would seem fitting.

Venom was always indoctrinated by the Patriots, he then got put in a VR coma and died, MGSV is Venom's purgatory that he will relive over and over, placing himself in the role of Big Boss not being able to come to terms that he was a failure of a medic and got them all blown up in the helicopter.

I'm not going to trust that 9/11 patch rumour thats floating around,
but Kojima did say that people would be re-visiting Camp Omega.
I'm wondering if this will ever be release as DLC.

Metal Gear Solid 5: Camp Omega Will Be Revisited, Will Include A Lot of Secrets
http://gamingbolt.com/metal-gear-solid-5-camp-omega-will-be-revisited-will-include-a-lot-of-secrets

The assets are already there, 3D model of the base and such.
MGSV sold a lot so maybe if Konami thought they'd want to make a few more bucks out of the stuff they put a lot in to, there might be a slight chance. Even if Konami is thinking of going almost full-mobile-development.

I'm imagining Kojima wanted to make the base change its structure depending on how the user plays TPP and which missions they've completed. When the structure changes and new places get added, the secrets are included in that part of the base etc.
Kojima did say its a really new type of thing.

No I didn't realize that was a thing.

There is more than one paz scene, maybe do all of it before rending judgement..
It's still dumb, it doesn't matter what they add with her afterward. Changing the opening like that is just lame. I liked the way Ground Zeroes ended, it was shocking and bold. Paz being alive in TPP makes it less so.

I liked the way the game explained Zero.

He's a well-intentioned guy who builds an organisation too big to control. His intentions get distorted as they travel down the chain of command, and his will is misunderstood.

I still don't understand what he was using Paz for, but his downward spiral is more believable. Betrayed, poisoned and dying he hastily puts Artificial Intelligence in control, having lost trust in his human subordinates, which turns out to be a bad idea.

It's less 'evil' than the prior games would have you believe.

Maybe Big Boss dreamed of Venom dreaming about the game while being on a coma.

We can always go deeper.
No, no no, it was clearly Ocelot sleep talking at Big Boss's bedside accidentally placing thought suggestions into Big Boss's mind, making him dream of the medic who dreamed that he was really Big Boss, who also dreamed he could create a doppelgänger so he could run away into the sunset naked with Kaz.

*sigh*, since this is the spoiler thread, paz is dead, nothing changed.

See the whole Paz story and come back, you aren't seeing the full picture yet.

I do love the cruel irony of how Big Boss ultimately sets Venom Snake up for death during the Outer Heaven mission in Metal Gear 1, much like how the U.S. government carried out The Boss' fate in MGS3. Big Boss led Fox Hound at the time, and more than likely knew that Solid Snake would succeed in his mission.

Like I get that not everybody interprets or reads into stuff exactly the same way, but Kojima has historically written his twists and ruses with the elegance of a sledgehammer to the face. He was better years ago, but over time twists have amounted into out-of-nowhere-and-mostly-implausible exposition dumps, or really obvious shit.

MGSV is the latter. The game makes it startlingly clear that Quiet is the woman who choked you in the hospital, but it takes until very late in the game for others to connect the dots. It's clear as day that Quiet is infected with one of the parasites and given her silence logically the English strain, which again doesn't become a revelation to characters until much later. The whole "You're not Big Boss" thing was telegraphed from very early on. The "WHAT ABOUT HIM?", the medic's hidden face (which I argued was just development logistics because surely it wouldn't be that blatant). The game had been marketed with weirdly surreal events surrounding the identity of the protagonist, or identity and truth in general, hence the whole Joakim Morgan and Moby Dick Studios thing. And then the game basically opens with "hey dude we're gonna change your face *load up faceeditor.exe". wait no you're big boss. here's a mystery dude who has your same voice and a talented soldier and REALLY COY ABOUT WHO HE IS".

Everyone was expecting a Kojima ruse and it seems people were divided into two camps: either you weren't playing as Big Boss and there was a face or head translate, or Big Boss was riddled with hallucinations and a lot of stuff didn't exist. Turned out to be the former with a dash of the latter.

Literally the only thing that's gonna happen tomorrow at the end of the count down is a pic of a sausage being eaten with the words "farewell sausage" in big red writing.

you know that's really hilarious given that the whole thing stems from him misunderstanding the boss's will as well

don't ever tell people your will
