Yeah you don't even have to play the modified missions. Though the game never explains it. They probably hoped you would waste time on them instead of dumb side ops to unlock everything.

Chapter 2 is just so dumb. Its shockingly bad, totally unfinished even and its weird that reviews hardly mention it.

At the end of the day its an unfinished game (like, clear as day unfinished), even moreso than Soul Reaver tbh. Because MGSV was supposed to bridge the gap completely and there are/were no plans for a direct sequel unlike SR. Its also unlikely we'll ever get it seeing the state of Konami and KojiPro.

Guys I have some questions: Why XOF destroyed MSF in Ground Zeroes? Why Skull Face wanted to kill Big Boss at the hospital? Did Zero knew or approved? If yes, why does he help Big Boss by creating Venom in MGS V?

This is the way I understood it.

So Skull Face was using Camp Omega to interrogate Paz in order to find Zero's location. At this point, they're full on enemies because of his desire to stamp out the English language and Zero's lack of support on this.

Skull Face isn't even known by Snake at this point. He's just there to rescue Paz. Presumably, Skull Face is just pissed off by this, and decides to destroy MSF and Snake.

MGS1: You can't pick up that rifle from that guard you took out because reasons.
MGS2: You can't pick up that rifle from that guard you took out because it has an ID lock.
MGS3: You can't pick up that rifle from that guard you took out because reasons.
MGS4: You CAN pick up that rifle from that guard you took out BUT it has an ID lock.
MGSV: You can pick up that rifle from that guard you took out :)

No he lured Snake. He knew Snake would try to rescue Chico and Paz. So he wouldn't be there to defend MB. SF deliberately timed these 2 things.

He wanted MB to burn down because reasons. Zero was his priority, but Snake was second. Either because he felt underappreciated being the clean up crew for them or he thought Snake could be a threat to his plans.

It's a bummer that we never clearly get Skull Face's motives to destroy Snake and Zero.

Is anyone in the same boat that they are pretty deflated about the story but would still give the game a 10/10?

I mean I'm kinda struggling to revisit it since the ending but the gameplay was so incredibly fun and the general design choices that it's probably one of my favourite games ever but still deeply disappointed with the story side.

Only other game with gameplay I've enjoyed this much as a singleplayer game is probably Dark Souls

It could just be something as petty as a situation of 'guilt by association' with Zero. The tapes suggest that Skull Face is a bit pissed with Snake that XOF was always acting as support for them since Snake Eater but Snake had 'no idea' who he was.

Yeah I basically feel the same, I actually really like the twist but the story as whole was forgettable, it has some great ideas related to language and stuff it never felt very meaningful. Still an amazing game.

Easy. I actually liked most of the chapter 2 story, but the ending is obviously ehhhh.

But it's 10/10 for me.

I'm not sure what number score I could give the game. The gameplay is great, but the story is just so so bad, and incomplete. As a total package, for me, it's incredibly lacking. The game just feels so hollow story wise. Which just doesn't feel right for a Metal Gear game.

And D-Dog remains incredibly awesome.

Alright I'm here. In this thread. Haven't beaten the game... but I just reached Chapter 2 and I really don't have the will to go on. Bring on the spoilers I guess.

I understand why he wanted to destroy Zero. Before the Patriots A.I, Zero wanted to use the English language to make the world one (Americanize the world in the process) and to be ruled under one entity the USA. Skull Face wanted to wipe the English language to prevent this from happening. but, I don't get why he is after Big boss?

"Notice me senpai"

Sadly, the best way to deal with the notorious Mission 16 is just to drive to the airport and fulton the vehicle out. 2 minutes tops. This also means its real time, so the vehicle has an actual starting point you might not know during your first try

This is what makes the game amazing.

I had missions go so many different ways.

Speaking of things we never see, we never saw this either, did we?

Obviously the scene at the very end shows Big Boss, not Venom.

I think the only explanation is after Peace Walker, MSF was a force to be reckon with and Skull Face wanted to wipe them out to prevent MSF and Big Boss from stopping his plans.

You are not playing Snake.

You're playing some random dude that got a magical surgery to look like Snake, altering voice height and race, that somehow matched Big boss in skills, both mind and stealth wise.

So that the real Big Boss could have his own Metal Gear story. That we will never see. He has a 10 seconds cameo. Enjoy.

And Eli is Liquid in case you hadn't figured it out.

I figured Skull Face's look was meant to imitate Zorro's look AKA.. Fox. I thought that was as far as that bit of symbolism went.

I'd be okay if I knew that MGS6 would happen or even that they'll release story DLC that would address some of the unresolved points in the story. Since none of this will be happening the events of the entire game feel pointless. Even the semi-canon Portable Ops was more important to the MGS lore than TPP.

Having the Lord of the Fies island as DLC would be perfect.

It doesn't need to be a huge area.
Just give us a handful of main missions and a ton of little side ops.

Just like Ground Zeroes.
