Mission 45 was so good. Intense action and a good cap to the Quiet story. And I unlocked 46 right after without doing any hard versions of missions! Everything's coming up Millhouse!

Wait, is it ever explained how Huey got Hal back?
Huey probably started working for Cipher again and the gave him back or XOF ceased to exist and it was easy to find Hal.

I take huge issue with the idea that Quiet just fades out into the wilderness and never shows up again in any of the subsequent games. I get that its a inherent issue with prequel stuff, but Kojima has done pretty well addressing what happened to basically every major character in the future and then Quiet is kind of unknown. I assume as part of the cut content she either dies after coming back later in the campaign or somehow gets cured.

damn the game knows when to piss me off. Die on the same sidequest, both times after fultoning like 25 guys, only to screw up (too many shotguns or oops, fell off the airport tower and land 10 feet from a shotgun guy)

Checkpointed back to before I took on the airport :(

Uh who got that scene with Quiet jumping in the chlorine tank? I haven't seen that discussed before.

I got it and it was a pretty good moment for the character.

Also, given Snake's behavior in that one, it pretty much goes in line with my theory that Kojima really wanted to ship these 2 characters despite contrary claims in interviews.

And no matter how hard he tries, the chemistry with Miller never goes away.

Finally finished 46, still have 45 to do but I've held off for obvious reasons. Is there a way to mod Quiet back in (PC obviously) so I can stop procrastinating and just do it?

All in all really enjoyed the game but the grinding/repetitiveness I could probably have done without. And yet in any other open world checklist game I have no tolerance for that shit, I can't stand GTA/assassin's creed/whatever. I liked the gameplay enough here that I'm still not bored of it. Even fast travel - something I normally hate - is done very well with its own pros and cons (dangerous box delivery points and limitations on when it can be used).

The grinding has gotten a little better now that the online on PC has started sort of working, and being connected doesn't tank my loadtimes so I can actually use and upgrade my FOB. Have yet to be invaded but I did defend a few people the other day. Felt kinda nice to see them supporting me now.

And of course, despite everyone telling me I was supposed to do a total 180 and develop memory loss of all fun I had with the game by the end of chapter 2, that never actually happened. What a surprise. That unfinished episode 51 on youtube kinda stings though, I was really hoping for another good boss fight.

There's an ini file mod out there. On mobile so I can't link it

I got it. Nice scene but I'm not sure if my game bugged or it's the normal way it pans out but the next cutscene I got was Quiet being tortured, I was like really guys ?

That's what I don't get. It's an excellent game. I just beat all side ops and now going to S rank the main missions plus do the mission tasks. What's crazy is that I'm still unlocking shit to use and experiment with, that unlimited suppressor zzzz pistol is the stuff of legends.

Yeah that was just pure bad triggering on your game's part

Still, it's crazy Miller as always.

That's what I thought. Really boggles my mind how a game can trigger this way, I don't think it ever happened in any other game I played, or maybe it did it just wasn't as obvious as this one.

Sure, it sounds great, but I've never actually ran out of silencer on my tranq gun. Now if they had an unlimited assault rifle silencer, that'd be something else.

On a related note, I just finished the story about an hour ago (after 120+ hours) and I'm trying to come up with ways to make things fresh. I keep thinking that now I'll start using lethal weapons but I just know I'll feel guilty if I do. I guess I'll experiment some with the rocket punch (kind of awkward to control it with the keyboard) and the Hand of Jehuty.

There's a lot of interesting things in the gameplay detail thread that can inspire you

Rocket launcher and the infinite ammo bandana is a lot of fun ;)

Well, I guess some series need to come to an end, and this has definetly happened now. We still got some exceptional games out of Kojima, so I am thankful for that, but this time I actually support all the voices calling for giving the series a rest. I actually do not want any more mgs games. The disappointment from this is just too big. Kojima actually brought the series back to zero, literally.

Nope, the gameplay is just too great not to get a sequel. This is the first MGS game that ever clicked for me (and even ended up in my Top 5) and I'll be damned if the series gets canned because people didn't like the story. Ya'll need to go and read some books. Godspeed Konami.

I could see an Arkham Origins kind of sequel where pretty much 95% of the gameplay here is maintained but they'd need to give me a goood everything else in order to not make it be a dull retread

I'd take even DLC that was just new side ops in a new area. I love just playing with the gameolay systems that much.

people were being quite hyperbolic over the cut content, honestly. to the point of saying the game doesn't have an ending when it has three, only one of which doesn't have much in the way of proper elaboration.

i wasn't pleased either, and i didn't like that the story wasn't what was billed, but that definitely doesn't erase the fun i had with the game. honestly, a second play-through has me appreciating the game's story a lot more now too. the 'ass-pull' true ending was telegraphed a lot more than people realise. the game more or less hints at it straight from the opening, by using a cover song as its opening theme.

Really? I burned through my pistol/sniper silencers so fast even though I always went out of my way to use holdups etc when I could. I never did find the guy to upgrade my silencers though, I remember seeing him listed on a mission but forgot until just now.

I've started building up D-Walker as my 'toy' and it turns out it's actually pretty entertaining. Really fun to fight Skulls with it. Haven't tried it on Sahelanthropus yet...can you even bring buddies to that fight? Hope so.

Actually on the subject of awesome mecha duels, does Sahelanthropus ever actually use the pile bunker on its right arm?

Just accidentally triggered a massive bug with the PC version that let's you equip any part to any gun in the customize weapon menu holy shit.

Just by using left click instead of space or enter it seems to bug the whole thing out.

I just put an LMG mag on the sniper rifle

Trying to recreate it but I am like 90% sure it has to do with left click.

So at the end of the day does finding S rank soldiers just come down to play more-grind more-pray to the rng gods?

Does heroism not help the odds in the slightest?
Im at 280k
and unless i start getting S ranked soldiers my teams are stalled out at about lvl 40-42.

Yeah, heroism helps. I'm swimming in S's at close to 600k, but the S++'s are still rare... Need combat ones of those to do these last deployment missions.

You'll find S ranks here and there at 400K and above, I'm guessing the higher you are, the more S rank you'll see until they become the norm.

You mean the rail gun (I assumed that's what it was)? Sure, at some point in the battle it jumps on top of a cliff and starts shooting at you/the chopper.

You cannot upgrade the silencer on your tranq gun (aside from the infinite one) unfortunately but you can upgrade your assault rifle/sniper rifle silencers by researching the first assault rifle with medium durability suppressor. Lemme check... it's the level 4 AM MRS-4. You can then outfit your other weapons in the same category with it.

And yes, D-Walker is amazing against the Skulls. I S-ranked both the Metallic Archaea missions with it.

The True ending.

Fucking unreal.

I just finished the true ending myself. Yeah, wow. The implications. "Ground Zeroes" as a term makes sense now. It's crazy.

And now after the credits, there's about 12 tapes to listen to. Anything to keep this mindfuck going.

Is this the first Metal Gear Solid without even as much as a single mention of Solid Snake? Are they seriously just calling it MGS for the brand recognition?

"Phantom Cigar" suddenly makes a whole ton of sense too.

They've been doing that for years. Mgs3 only has a snake you can eat called solid snake.

They do briefly mention him in one of the tapes and there's a scene which directly links to the Outer Heaven mission.
