Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

So wait why are people doubting the leak all of a sudden?
People have been seriously doubting it since the select screen was revealed, confirmation on what the select screen color coding means increased those doubts. Alex and Urien for DLC maybe? It's not doubting the leak, which didn't say they were on the starting roster.

What about the color coding?

That still doesn't answer the question, ya sure people have been doubting it.. but it hasn't been wrong so other than wishful thinking what is there?

The eight characters in the left box are all from SF2/SF4, Gamespot confirmed they're all classic or regulars or something like that. The bottom right four are characters we haven't seen in a while. Top right are brand new.

People are 'doubting' it because it never said all four of those characters would be on the starting roster, and there's not really room for all of them because none of them fit into that left box.

Capcom have finally put up info about Rashid along with some new screens:

Birdie is lowest on the poll, he wont be in SFV .
R Mika is a joke character, she wont be in SFV.
Urien and Alex are not popular, they wont be in SFV.
I get what you're saying here, but Alex and Urien both placed high in the last poll, so you might want to use a different hypothetical.

On the poll Capcom themselves did neither placed all that great.
I prefer to go by the more recent poll done by EventHubs.

The fact we're all still referencing something that's almost three years old is a bit problematic IMO. If Capcom held another poll after the initial SFV roster is revealed, I think the results would be quite different from what we got in 2013.

On the contrary, the 2013 poll is the one to look at precisely because he was done years ago when Capcom was in SF5 preproduction phase, that's when they locked the initial roster, and probably even first DLCs characters.
Recent polls came far too late to have any impact on production and thus on the 'initial' roster (release roster + early dlcs).

This is what I believe the rest of the characters will he

Zangief - The core grapple character with low start frames for his throws. While R. Mika is a grappler she hasn't got a quick start up command throw like Gief. They may redesign him and give him a few new moves I guess to keep him fresh.

Feilong - Hong Kong stage is already their but no Hong Kong character. I expect them to redesign him with Bruce Lee yellow jumpsuit. The Bruce Lee like expressions will animate so well on this engine. Give him some new moves like the 1 inch punch. Perhaps make his V Trigger him Pilling out Nunchucks.

Karin - Fan requested character. Redesigned all grown up.

Laura - Leaked Brazil Character

Zen - Leaked Indian Character

Day 1 DLC or Fight Money Unlock
Urien - Unfortunately no 3rd Strike characters on the starting roster so I guess he makes sense for the first and I am sure he would have a lot of story presence.

I meant in a more general sense, as in it shouldn't be the end all, be all, when talking about character popularity as the data is already out of date. (And Urien and Alex still fared around/above average in that poll anyway.)

If we're talking the current feelings of the fanbase, at least in western circles, I'm gonna go with something more recent, and the EventHubs poll is the biggest one to my knowledge.

Bustling Side Street (the stage you're referring to) is in China. It's Chun's stage.

What I am saying is none of that matters at the end of the day. Capcom wants SFV to stand out compared to SF4. So they will use a lot of characters that didnt make it in SF4 despite people hatin'

I look forward to when Urien shows up to lay the smackdown. People are overthinking "classic and well known characters". Alex has been in many games outside of 3S. He is a classic.

Well, I definitely agree with you then.

I think people are putting too much stock into old data and preconceived notions, when Capcom has already demonstrated they aren't gonna follow the same old patterns.

Yeah I was also thinking it might be one of the dolls.

Bison's quote to Necalli is the most interesting plot wise,

"It’s all just a matter of time now. Everything is going according to plan."

Still betting on a SF4 character. Doesn't make sense to me for there to be none in this game for the starting roster. Even if SF4 originally did not have anyone from third strike. Since that was a return of the series from hibernation.

Fei Long would be more disappointing than Honda at this point, especially since we're likely getting Karin. I'm hoping for Gief, Sim, Guile, Sagat... Anyone but Fei really. Luckily I don't have anything to worry about, I doubt we'll see him for a long time.

Urien will likely show up at some point either way, but it's pretty clear that neither Alex nor Urien fit in with characters like Ryu, Bison, and Vega when it comes to being classic SF characters. I feel like it's pretty intuitive neither of them will be in that box.

It's either going to be Karin or Fei Long, not both. As for Zangief, Rainbow Mika has already been described as the grappler of the game (while everyone else may or may not have grapples in their moveset, they aren't grapple-centric like Mika), so I have my doubts for Zangief.

Fei's name being on the HK stage was the death knell for his starting roster chances.

We're pretty sure it's Karin because of the red shoes/bag and her being the only real Alpha comeback character left to fill that last slot.

I am curious if Mika is the "core" grappler of this game or not. Wouldn't be great to have a SF with no quick start up grappler out the game.

Anyone here who DOESN'T think Karin will be revealed next weekend at TGS? I saw some people on eventhubs still denying the leaked list. The last 5 remaining character is karin, alex, urien and the 2 new characters i feel like. Anyone thinking otherwise is just going to be disappointed. I mean I want guile to get in and i feel like vega, alex, urien are waste of slots but oh well time to accept it and move on dudes.I really hope the two new characters have some kind of defense type of gameplay. Otherwise playing SFV:rushdown edition will be too boring with less and and less variety.

I honesty doubt we'll get Alex, Karin, and Urien. Two of those three will be DLC. I'm assuming we'll get Karin because she was at the top of that poll and the other two are SF3 characters.

I wouldn't say Alex, Urien and Karin are guaranteed.

The only thing that rumour got.right so far was R. Mika. While a good guess I wouldn't say it's guaranteed.

However Ken Bogard rumour is 100 percent guaranteed. He git V Trigger, DLC plan as well as Rashid right which are far too specific. Laura and Zen are basically guaranteed.

Ken Bogard also got the game's engine as well as the weather thing right (you can see the time of day & weather in the Stage Select Screen).

They're both Rekka characters and are redundant in terms of character style diversity, which they've put a heavy priority on. Putting both in is a waste of a slot on the initial roster.

Not even close, really. Their playstyles aren't even remotely similar except for having one special move that moves them forward (and, even then, doesn't even behave similarly). That's like saying no one in the game will have a projectile because Ryu already has a fireball.

Their playstyles are similar though, it's just that Karin has more tools to work with.

They really aren't. She has more in common with Abel than Fei Long, and there are already characters in SFV with more similarities than Fei Long and Karin. And all of this is ignoring the fact that every character in SFV is redesigned anyway.

I don't think Fei's making the cut in the initial roster (he'll be DLC along with damn near everyone else who's ever been in this series) but I don't think "He has a rekka so that means he's out" is sound reasoning, any more than saying Rashid can't be in because there are already projectile characters or Mika can't be in because there are already command grab characters. A rekka is just a special move. It doesn't define a playstyle.
