Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

Man not being able to get crucible marks this week has screwed me. I was working on MoT last week and noticed that marks went into "crucible wins" for the crucible gladiator MoT step so I figured I would put it off and focus on leveling to beat Skolas. After the elation of beating Skolas with no wipes I went back to crucible to finish up the last step and much to my dismay I will not be able to get the 76 wins needed without crucible marks going toward it. Sucks big time.

Do lower level enemies still scale up to your level? Always felt weird having hardmode raid gear yet vs the lower enemies there wasnt any improvement.

They don't scale up. never did.
You kill the very fast, usually 1 headshot. The only thing that happens is that you still take proper damage from them. Not as much as if you were their level but still enough for them to be actual, proper threats.

Usually you just headshot everything though, easy.

Riiiight thats how it was, alright i guess you still take proper damage then. Thanks

Well that's true for everyone but Randall that dude can take a whoopin.

Here's a weird question. If I already have Destiny and both expansions downloaded, and I trade in my destiny disc to get the twenty off the Taken king disc plus the pre-order bonus (since I don't want to buy on the network), when I get the new disc tonight, it's just a voucher inside right? So will it have to redownload Destiny and both expansions again, or will it just download Taken King since I already have the other three installed?

You already have Taken King downloaded. Everyone has. It was the 18GB patch last week.

For some reason PSN is declining my card when I pre-order so I guess I'll have to wait for tomorrow to try again and hopefully buy it. Oh well, sucks.

EDIT: Also, despite them cancelling my pre-order, on PSN they still ask if I want to transfer it for PS4 and don't give me the chance to buy it. Can only do it on the PS4. What a mess.

Can someone please explain light to me after this Patch? Also, is all of the house of wolves gear now useless? I thought I read that someplace. Is there someplace I can have this explained to me? Was a light level 33 before the patch and am now 169... Also what is the leveling used for?

Are there actually any pre order bonuses for the taken king?

Yep

Light level now is the average of your "item level" or your "stats" one could say.
It governs how much damage you do (together with the attack value of your weapon), how much health you have, how much damage your abilities do, etc..

Your character level is just used for determining which items you can equip and which missions are unlocked for you (unless they are locked by light).

We have videos and tests showing that light is the only thing that matters in combat. A lvl 24 with light level 165 easily went into the lvl 32 Nightfall and cleaned house.

Leveling is now 1-40, it isn't affected by your light level. Light level is basically gear score, how good your gear is and it effects how much damage you take and do. Things will now have a minimum light required to do them instead of a minimum level.

Light is your "gear rating" for your character. It's the average of your Defense for Helm, Chest, Gloves, Boots, Shell, and Class item and the attack values of your equipped primary, secondary and heavy weapon. Right now it's maxed out at 170. Better gear will have bigger numbers ... I think it goes to 280 on the level 40 gear.

It's how much damage you're dealing, and how much protection you have.

So what are levels for? Also, what is the max light level now? Used to be "34"

280? So pretty much what you are wearing now will be useless soon enough- good to know. So your levels affect the gear you can use.

Where do you get the founders fortune pack? I bought the taken King two days ago and have a character past 30.

Any GAF groups for New/Returning Players(PS4)...Most of DestinyGaf is experienced and have groups already set up. Looking to grow/run with a group.

A question about the "Founder's Fortune Pack". I bought the original collector's edition that included the first 2 dlc codes but never played them. Would I still get those VIP items?

I am starting fresh tomorrow, only made it to level 11 in vanilla Destiny. Cant decide if I want to play as Hunter or Warlock. Will be playing on PS4 if anyone is new / never made it anywhere in the game. My username is same as GAF name if anyone wants to add me, just send a message saying you are from GAF.

Good question honestly. Did you ever play Destiny when they were both installed?

How is PvP on this nowadays? I dropped out a while ago, but I remember being one of the few people that enjoyed PvP despite its lack of game modes. Are there more game modes now or is it still just slayer and domination (or whatever it was called)?

Hey DestinyGAF, I know most of you play on PlayStation 4, but I ended up getting The Taken King on Xbox One. Sadly, I barely know anyone who owns a xbox one. I'll be rolling a new character today (probably hunter), feel free to add me! GT: DrTeflonzBR

There's a list of gamertags in the OP, check it out!

No. I did use the codes for them when I first played the game, but the only time I've logged on since I stopped playing (which was before they were actually unlocked) was a couple of days ago.

So let me get this straight....

Going by light level, your character will always have the same Attack-to-Defense ratio? For example, you can't have low attack with high defense, or high attack with low defense?

Equipping a weapon with higher attack will also increase your defense because your light level increases?

Weapon attack power and gear defense no longer matter individually? Other than to bump up your light level average?

Has any other game ever done this before? This feels completely unique and bazaar...

List of all game modes:

Clash
Combined Arms
Control
Elimination
Inferno
Mayhem
Rift
Rumble
Salvage
Skirmish
Zone Control

Plus of course the two special events "Iron Banner" and "Trials of Osiris"

If you owned both expansions or reached level 30 before august 31st, you'll get the founder's fortune pack so long as you play The Taken King before February.

I had that same problem when I bought the Legendary Edition of the game a couple of weeks ago. I was doing it through the website, and my card kept being declined. Eventually, I tried it out with another browser and it went through. I also received a text message from my card provider asking for my permission to process the transaction.

Hm, I'm gonna take a gamble here and say you should be ok. if I remember correctly though, you actually have till like almost the end of the year to achieve the founders pack stuff.

High weapon attack will do more damage than low weapon attack, even at the same/similar light level.

But yes, if you look at it in very simple terms, then light governs everything.

No, that's not right.

Light level is just a gear rating ... it's just a "your gear is about this good" number.

Your damage is based on the weapon you have equipped, and the damage you take is based on the armor, shell and class item you're wearing.

I guess the question was more if the game would count that I have ever owned them if I never played the game when the were active. Something that I also guess would be impossible to know unless they put out a notice about that specific scenario.

I might just try it again tomorrow.

The thing that worries me is how it shows that I pre-ordered it on PSN when it was declined. Can't even buy it on the web store now.

EDIT: On Chrome it allows me to but not on Safari. Probably because of cookies or something.

You might be in a bind if you didn't download the DLC at all. I don't think the game will recognize the different editions when it comes to the base game. Indeed they have not elaborated on that specific situation, probably because Light Level 30 has been easily obtainable for a while now.

Yeah, I guess I will find out later this week.

Any other Xbox One players want to head into King's Fall friday? I'm putting together a team of the meanest Xbone players to take on Oryx and wear his ass as a hat. Let me know if you want in!

Guessing no Canadian deals out there for legendary edition? Only have base game and didn't see anything like gamestop trade in deal on their site

So stat of your weapon still only determines how much damage you do? And stat on armor still only determines how much damage you absorb? Or is light level also a factor in that?

Light determines:

How much health you have
How much damage your abilities do

Light + your weapon attack determines:

How much damage you do

Quick example:

Say all my items, every single one,is light 200. I have a light level of 200 now.
I shoot at an enemy with my 200 attack gun and do 100 damage.

Now, I equip an attack 150 gun but also raise all my other items so I still have 200 overall light level.
I shoot at the enemy and now do 85 damage.

Even though i have the exact same light,I will do less damage cause my gun does less damage.

Now say I keep my 200 attack gun but raise my overall light to 220.
I will now do 115 damage to the enemy I did 100 to before.
