Just saying it's not actually diversity if majority of the characters are ostensibly white-looking.

White-washing fools being a common anime thing doesn't make it any less dumb :/
They are white looking to you and me because we were born and raised in America where the default is White and thus everything is judged along that axis. To the Japanese, who were raised along a different racial axis, they are Japanese. Street Fighter plays closer to real world designs than many anime/manga inspire series so this can get a bit trickier here but it still falls along the same principle. I can assure you, if you open up any random anime/manga, if the character has a Japanese name, lives in Japan (or some fantasy equivalent) and/or behaves with typical Japanese mannerisms, they are almost certainly supposed to be Japanese.
I think I like Karin better in blue.
The three gameplay vids that are out for Karin suck. They're not real matches at all, more like just playing around. Hopefully she's also in the next beta wherever that releases.

Well let's take R. Mika. Mika's a Japanese word, I think everyone can assume that yeah? There are shots with her in which (without getting too much into disingenuous stereotype territory...that's why I usually turn tail on this stuff) she clearly has Asian features.Elaborate
100% agreed on the Ryu beard alt; I don't give a damn who disagrees with me on it, that isn't Ryu. What's funnier is he's much less tan in V than he was in IV, too, but V takes place after IV? How does that work out for someone who spends his days outdoors under the sun around Japanese countrysides?I'd like to see SF move away from the context, too, but the point is that your argument would actually be against racial representation in anime, which is a fat topic in itself with a lot of history and context to consider (not saying it's right or justified, mind you). but while we're on the subject, the ryu beard alt is the main thing that bothered me. he hella got whitewashed with that (and it's so popular that arguing 'against' it is the kind of shitshow I don't care to get into)
also an excellent point. eurocentrism is always lurking. that shit runs deep.
Well, Daigo, Momochi and Nemo are all top SF4 players.RX was definitely the best Urien in the world.
I'm sad a lot of those 3rd Strike legends never really transitioned to SF4. RX, Sugiyama and YSB just sort of dropped out of the scene, it feels like.
Isn't Ryu like secretly rich from all of the tournements he won? That's what he carries around...a big sack of money.
Necalli is a god too.
'Supposed to be" doesn't matter- all that counts is how they come across at a glance.

I always imagine Ryu walks away before they can hand him money, and that sack is just his laundry.

Not his. Every time he beats someone, he steals their underwear.I always imagine Ryu walks away before they can hand him money, and that sack is just his laundry.
no im pretty sure it's his money

Bonchan is white, dudes.

I'll give her Ken though; I always thought he was white until hearing someone say he was half-Japanese. But I agree with your other notion that the cast needs to look more immediately diverse, too. There's a way to obviously do that without going into negative stereotypes, as Rashid proves.
Can't blame your gf seeing the cast that way though I guess; the average casual person not following SF lore or anything would probably think the same thing on first seeing them.
I think that's a very close minded way of looking at the issue.
It also kind of assuming that the Japanese are trying to white wash thier own characters as the Japanese ones seem to be the only ones with this "issue".
Ryu occasionally sells his "winnings" to Dan, and that's how he makes a living. And the day he lost to Ken, Ken gave him a shredded scrap of his underwear, and Ryu now uses it as his headband as a reminder of the pair that got away.
I just quickly googled a double reflector video :/
Makes you wonder how he handles basic utilities & such, because you can only live off the land for so long.I always imagine Ryu walks away before they can hand him money, and that sack is just his laundry.
To you. If you ask a random Japanese person you'll likely get a different answer. That's my point. When Japan wants you to know that a specific character is definitively of European descent, they usually don't hide it.
Well you also need to remember that this is a global society now and Capcom has to make decisions with the global market in mind. So it's not just enough that a supposedly Japanese character looks Japanese to Japanese people. At the other end of the pole, you definitely don't want racists dictating what a Japanese character should look like, as I'm sure you'd run into a couple of rancid people in the SF fanbase who'd love to voice their opinions that way.To you. How is it closed-minded?
lol
you're not worth arguing with if you're just going to dismiss any considerations besides MY FEELINGS and the feelings of people in your exact, eurocentric context. good stuff
kuroda is a god though
dude is basically the best with all 19 characters.
so basically every event we are getting a new character announcemet? are they going to be at PGW and PSX right? lol.
how many characters left though.
You're ignoring creator intention, cultural differences and flat out saying that if it looks that way to someone outside of that culture at first glance it's a problem.
They really should do something about her blonde eyes
What's your sample size for this? You and your girlfriend?Just saying at first glance if majority of human beings on earth guess a character is white, they are functionally white.
It's not a real term, I'm just poking fun at the fact that her eyes are the same color aas her hairBlond eyes? I never heard that term before, but they do look a little weird. Usually I only see those hazely eyes on redbones. Never seen them on a white girl before that's dif.
Lots of hispanics gonna be upset at thatJust saying at first glance if majority of human beings on earth guess a character is white, they are functionally white.
go on
To be fair you can be white and hispanic bit I know what you mean.Lots of hispanics gonna be upset at that

Anecdotal evidence doesn't work well when looking at an entire global population.

Obviously Italian.and asked what country she was from, nobody would get it right (if they didn't already randomly know who she was).
