Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

*points at Birdie, Rainbow Mika, & Karin*
Mika & Karin are only popular amongst the hardcore like us.

Exactly why the game is made to appeal to both hardcore and casual.

We got 8 for the hardcore and 8 returning for that casuals.

Seems like a good balance.

The Illuminati are involved in the game anyway, as they're directly responsible for Charlie's revival. I'd be shocked if we didn't get any kind of Illuminati representation in the initial roster.

Do you guys even realize how much SFII characters would kill the hype?

Just like how Ken killed the hype at SDCC?

I don't see your point, comic con isn't even a gaming event. More casuals than hardcore players.

Would be the perfect place to reveal a story trailer.

So if you're like an Ultra Street Fighter fan and Zangief is revealed instead of Alex, are you not gonna by the game because your hype is so low? Even if Alex is revealed as early DLC like a month later, before launch?

But we have Charlie and Necalli.

Ikr, it's like TRUE sf fans need to hate SF 2 or something. Why not like both games?

I mean it makes sense to want to just see these characters return, but like... I don't get the "hype killing" talk when the roster is already filled with fan favorites and awesome changes to veterans, as well as some great newcomers. If anything it would raise the hype for those people out there who don't care about "fan favorites" and want to see more recognizable characters.

And then there's DLC!

Could you imagine like old man Zangief? That'd be great.

I like the cast so far, it's pretty "safe" but with some wild cards like Birdie and Mika.

Only mad there's no 3S characters...but I'm sure they will be DLC

Yup
50% safe 50% new. Don't see how anyone can get upset over it.

Charlie is kind of an exception since he's mainstream recognizable too, but they changed him soooooo much. so I guess he's in the new category.

And even then the "safe" characters include Ken and Bison, and Bison don't even got a psycho crusher.

I remember how all good will for SFV instantly evaporated when they showed boring old Bison after hype veteran Nash though. That killed all the hype.

Yeah, considering how all-in Capcom seems to be about making this a platform more than a game, if this thing is as successful as they want (need) it to be, I have a hard time envisioning a future (say, the next two-three years) where we're not dealing with like, 46-50 characters available.

If they give a shit about story to the level they say they do, I'd bet Street Fighter V eventually overwrites III, the way Alpha 2 overwrote Alpha. DLC rolls out, story elements are added along with that. It'd be smart on their part, to not only try to hook players with new characters/stages/rivals/tournaments, but to hook 'em on the story level, introducing new "episodes" every few months as characters are rolled out.

I mean it did kill the series for the better part of a decade, it makes sense that they might be wary about putting those characters on the front lines again.

And it's Zangief.

SF3 didnt kill the series.

Disappearing arcade scene and over saturation/declining popularity of fighting games did that.

Karin was the 7th most popular character in that character popularity pool they did last year, and 1st counting only Japan. She falls into the "safe" category imo, putting her in the game guarantees a bunch of sells

We don't know that for sure, yet.

We don't, but Ken Bogard told us Capcom will make some kind of story mode in this game (he was right on every single thing so far, we can believe him) so idk, the game happens between IV and III, we need at least something from 3S to make the connection

That poll is from hardcore fans who will buy the game regardless.

She's really only been in one game and is not a safe pick at all. Else she would have come in Super or X Tekken.

I predict the final 4 characters to be

Feilong - Hong Kong
Zangief - Russia
Zen - India
Laura - Brazil

Day 1 DLC and Sub Boss or Boss
Urien

Month 2 DLC
Alex

It's part of the whole "simpler inputs" thing. Like how there are no mash specials. It would just be a 180 instead.

It's in one of the interviews talking about accessibility, no idea where to find it

hrmm, alright. we still got a mash type move in Rashid, btw.

i'm holding out for a 360 grappler in Alex... guess i'll have to wait til NYCC to find out for sure.

Karin's inclusion killed any hope for Fei Long in the base roster.

witch roster leak had karin/mika ect
Siliconera, since Karin & Rainbow Mika were the 2nd batch of characters that they leaked (the first batch being Alex & Urien).

where is the source on this?

i'm in the camp that Alex will be our dedicated grappler with based 360 moves

He doesn't even have 360s in his own game aside from a Super Art, which I'm fine with as that would be double the inputs of its HCB throws like most Super Arts are double QCF. However, Mika's CA is HCBx2, right? That's probably what he'll get.

I don't get why people argue we need "dedicated" charge and grapple characters. I enjoy all these hybrids. And Alex is a grappler as much as anyone what with him getting different throws based on what direction his opponent is facing. He could be the only SFV character with two CAs.

I can't wait for Ono to throw a curve ball and troll everyone by revealing the final two returning characters to be SODOM AND DEEJAY

ah thanks found the link yep id say Urien/Alex are pretty much a lock at this point
There are two things to consider about Alex & Urien.
  • Capcom made a comment about the last 2 veterans being "characters you'd expect".
  • However, Capcom has lied about the rosters of their fighting games in the past.
