Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain PC performance thread

I just wish that all the timers worked like the online timers do. FOB extensions and online Deployments all have the globe next to them and will continue even when the game is closed. Being able to start developing a bunch of weapons, go to bed and then wake up to all these new items would be great.

after the latest patch I got a lot more dips in 1440p and switched back to 1080p, still getting dips that weren't there before...

I was getting weird drops as well. I changed the settings, then swapped them right back and it cleared up my issue for a while.

No clue why it was happening tho.

Maybw there's a way to change the timers to global?

Ita also annoying that you actually need to be playing in order to get resources, can't just ask it. I left it on last night in hopes to get some resources processed and got none lol

I forgot to renable HBAO+ when I reinstalled drivers.

screw those. Is there anyway to disable the Intro logos and outro credits that show up... before and after EVERY SINGLE MISSION AND SIDE OP. I get it Kojima, you're the Director, shit.

On a first blind playthrough, there is one reason the intro credits can be helpful: guest stars. It helped me know what enemies to expect (and how well my loadout was going to work), especially with that Man on Fire level.

As for the outro credits, they can be skipped with a single button press the instant they appear.

I'm 90% sure when messing around through modding that I found a way to skip those but I'll never release anything because I think those credits are fantastic.

Thanks for the point on the outtro credits, I'll skip them from now on.

Seriously though, I'd really rather not know at all who "guest stars" are in a mission, this if my first and only playthrough and Ive worked hard to avoid spoilers so you can imagine someone like me who wants to play truly blind would appreciate at least the option to SKIP intro credits. Please

This particular jungle area behind a certain mansion in the Africa map is the most demanding area in the entire game, and (devoid instances of Extra High Effects dust clouds) it's really the only time my 980 Ti hasn't been able to maintain 60+ FPS @1440p; even @1080p my GPU is hitting 90% usage.

Images below are maxed out settings w/HBAO+ enabled...

Not complaining, just surprised to see it reach Crysis 3 levels of sustained GPU usage in this particular area @1080p, when I'm only averaging 40-60% everywhere else at the same res with a 60 FPS cap.

AFking in mother base seems to process materials, doesn't work in the chopper or out in the field. Back to afking lol

Edit : it only works when there is soldiers in the Brig ready to be put to use, if you have 0 people in the Brig it won't work

I've noticed areas like that as well, though I only have a 970. The Witcher 3 has similar problems as well. Like standing in an area that doesn't look very impressive will cause my FPS to dip heavily.

970 here as well, those vegetation-heavy areas definitely cause a big drop in frame rate for me too. With Effects on Extra High if I were to dive to the ground or crawl the resulting dust would make the game go under 30fps. Turning Effects to High stops that from happening but it still hovers around the mid to high 30's when in those forest areas. Thankfully those areas are not super common as the rest of the areas run really well.

Does anyone know wether or not someone has found a way to rip the audio tape files out of the game? I'd like to play them on my phone for the convenience factor. I'm hoping they're just MP3 files stashed somewhere in the directory, but something's telling me that I doubt it's going to be that easy :/

Extra high post-processing is causing the framerate to drop in that area. It happens on nearly every configuration I think, there's some sort of bug there I assume. Drop to High PP and your framerate will climb back up. But it's not worth doing that just for that area.

Isn't there an app that takes care of this for you?

Yeah, Lufwa Valley and the starting area in Africa (during the oil refinery mission) both give me about a 10-15fps drop. Dropping post-processing to high generally brings the framerate back up to 60 in these areas.

I got drops during the oil refinery mission also, but at the beginning. For some reason, the small cutscene that showed BB jumping out of the helicopter gave me single digit frames, with GPU usage dropping heavily for no apparent reason. After that, when I was going through that actual area, I wasn't getting drops below 55-60, but I was getting very high GPU usage.

As others have mentioned on this thread, there are a few cutscenes that plain old wig out, and, again, for no apparent reason. Along with the aforementioned, I had this issue for a cutscene during the prologue (don't remember which), the cutscenes after extracting Code Talker, and the cutscene that takes place when Battle Gear is finished.

A couple have also suggested that HBAO+ is a factor, but then I've also read that some with in-game AO experienced the same issue. I have yet to get an S rank for the Code Talker mission, so I may go back soon, beat it, and see if the same thing happens again.

Well I was playing mission 13 and all of a sudden as i was walking to the plant the screen went black and i was at the plant having completed the 1st objective, I reloaded and did the mission again and it was fine. Anyone else seen anything like this it was really freaky.

Seriously though, no I haven't seen that.

Can confirm, this single digit drop happened to me as well with HBAO+ enabled on a 970.

I did try the Code Talker level again after my last post, and for some reason, the closing cutscene (one of a few affected by this issue, including the aforementioned heli scene) was flawless this time (w/HBAO+ enabled); no super low GPU usage, no single digit frame count. So it was either (A), a glitch fixed in one of the beta patches since, or (B), is simply a quirk of the engine with an unknown cause.

Ah well, puzzling, but not a huge deal either way.

Yeah, I finally got around to doing that mission and same thing happened to me also.

That's what I was referring to.

Is anyone else playing in 4K? If so, what fps and what is your hardware? I'm curious how it compares to my setup. In 4K with max settings, I get 60fps locked.

My setup: 2 watercooled titan x's at 1500/7980 mhz, although I don't think I really need that high of an overclock to get achieve that quality. This game is very well optimized.

Played the game for ~42 hours and not had any issues other than frame drops when there's too many particle effects (Quiet moving somewhere, or diving to the ground).

Then all of a sudden today doing some Side Ops in Afghanistan during a skirmish, I was getting dropped frames all over the place. It seems like it's occurring every time I get into a fight which wasn't the case just 1-2 hours before. wtf.

I haven't changed anything so I have no idea why it's happening.

Holy fuck, people were not joking about the hbao+ performance bug after mission 29 (I don't really think this spoils anything, but if anyone objects I'll hide it):

It ran like a slideshow the entire scene. Way worse than the earlier stutters, where it just lasted a moment or two. At least it was just dialog and didn't have any vital visual displays going on, but still... it'd be nice to play with HBAO+ without broken scenes like this.

Does Nvidia have to fix this on their end with a driver update? Or are they likely to just ignore it, since it's an optional enhancement?

I don't think its been confirmed that HBAO+ caused those slow downs, and I also believe several have tested and found that its actually not the cause.

I ran some actual tests on the opening cutscene of mission 13 since it's the one mission that has that happen pretty early.
I put everything else at lowest possible (kept resolution at 1080p though) and as long as hbao+ was enabled from nvcp, as soon as you jump off the chopper framerate would tank.

No other setting mattered as far as I could see.

ARGHHHHHH.

I've just spent an hour and still don't have the Deathstalker in Afghanistan. I've been all over that map putting traps in the desert areas. NOTHING BUT GERBILS.

Also I apparently got the turtle that one dude wanted during this (or the Afghan equiv of it?)

:| I hate these traps, if the damn things spawned in game I'd have nearly all the animals already. ARGHHHHH.

Funnily enough, I just tried putting down my first ever capture cage and the first thing I got was a Deathstalker...

How is the game in 4K?

Anyone experiencing serious performance issues since the last patch? 1.006? It was running perfectly then all of a sudden I've been getting serious hitching and framedrops. It's basically unplayable right now.

Onlt time I see any drops is while driving crazily over rocks etc.

I do feel like im seeing a bit more pop in than launch though.

Playing on max at 1440p on 980ti
