Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

How long is TTK's campaign on average? I ONLY have vanilla Destiny, which I played back at launch, and I'm wondering if this is worth getting TTK + expansions.
IMO, the TTK is longer than previous dlc combined. But that doesnt mean you shouldnt also try them.

Also, if you managed to get light level 30 before 8/31/15, you get some pretty cool stuff.
How do I get the exclusive strike gear?
Redbull code.

That was the best mission in Destiny IMO.

The Vault of Glass mission from House of Wolves was really good. The one from The Taken Taken involving Praedyth was pretty bad. The boss is okay, but that nonsense in the Templar area was pretty distasteful. It's several waves of enemies with very few checkpoints......even when you think it's over and you're just mopping up a few stray monsterss they will spawn a bunch of trash in from nowhere that kills you and makes you start from the very beginning again.
Several people in this thread said they pretty much gave up on solo'ing it. I hid out in the Fanatic spawn cave until I could get some of the captains down.

The Shade of Oryx boss in the Citadel was much worse.....it probably took me 20-30 minutes to slog through the fight. So much trash spawns that you can't stay out in the open for long and half of the majors that pop have projectiles that go through solid objects or bend around corners.

Just because something is difficult doesn't mean it's unfair.

I soloed it just fine by constantly running around.

Maybe you just need better gear?

The point being that those areas get so suddenly and immediately clogged up with enemies that you can't reliably just "run around" because you are beset on all sides. You end up having to hunker down in a cheese spot just to have a minute to breath, all the while the Shade of Oryx drains your super energy so you can't really even hope to mount a big counter-offensive.

I'm hoping I will like those missions better when I can have the weapons and gear I want. Right now I'm forced into a particular loadout because the only 255+ Light weapons I have are an auto rifle/sniper/shotgun. That said I was at the supposed Light requirement for the mission (240).

Ah that makes sense. I actually worked on some other quests first so I think I was at a higher general light level

Kind of depressing to do one story mission and handful of crucible matches only to have all my gear be replaced by greens and blues.

I'm hanging into Bad Juju V1 because it's so good but man I dunno how long it will last.

Best sword to chose?

On top of the attack element, there's also the guard some may want to take into account, which is strong against the two other elements but weak against its own.

There's also the matter of the exotic version's perks and appearance since they do differ there.

Bolt-Caster(Arc)
Dark-Drinker(Void)
Raze-Lighter(Solar)

Bolt-Caster can shoot a beam of Arc energy and can drop orbs for kills.
Dark-Drinker has an AoE and recharges grenade energy for kills.
Raze-Lighter has an uppercut and recharges super energy for kills.

Is everyone still infatuated with the new content?

Been considering buying it but 40 is a lot for more dlc.

I've put a dozen hours in and feel like have barely scratched the surface. After the main campaign missions, a large number of quests and other activities open up; it's actually pretty overwhelming.

Hey guys

Is it worth to buy an Exotic from the terminal?

I see that they have 280 defense, but I saw that there's some blues that go higher than that.

So I this is probably a dumb question but how do you get R3 to pop up next to your name and what does it do? I've seen it on Earth and the Tower but never clicked it.

Just buy Bad Juju v2 when you can afford it later lol

Not sure I understand how the gunsmith works. I just completed the gun quest and the gun is still greyed out at the store, and it won't upgrade. What am I missing?

On Wednesday you can order a Legendary gun from him, if you have reputation Level 1 or higher. The gun will not arrive until the next Wednesday....you keep the order in your inventory until then.

The Prototype weapons are not quests with rewards.....all you get is reputation for finishing them. Once you get each gun to 100% your reputation goes up and you can just delete them.

Anyone else noticed Nolan Bot has multiple variants of dialogue from Strikes?

Like in Shield Brothers he said: "They brought a tank to a gun fight!" and then the second time he said: "A tank! They brought a tank into space?"

About to go use some Deployment Codes, anyone want to join? I rather regretted using the previous item solo. And of course there were no randoms nearby to help take them out either x.x

Edit: PS4

Whelp, I gave in and bought The Taken King Digital CE. Really hoping the game is now as good as they say, since vanilla was pretty boring after I beat it.

Change your DNS settings, this almost doubled my download speeds.

Change them to what though? Currently the download keeps on pausing or slowing to an absolute crawl. It randomly goes from full speed to almost nothing.

Finally reached level 40 with my Warlock hopefully my light level will be good enough to do a run of the raid this weekend. I'm loving stormcaller but that VOG story mission was kicking my ass I had to switch to sunsinger to beat it.

Should I spend the 60 marks for a legendary from the cryptarch? I've still got a two blues to replace, but I'm wondering if I should wait for xur.

My plan is to wait for Xur. I don't want to buy something and then the only Xur class exotic ends up being the same armor type as something I just bought.

That's my worry as well. I'm sitting at 230 light and I'll be stuck at work until tomorrow night. Hopefully my friends have the decency to wait on me for the raid.

Hey guys, if I delete my original character from launch and start over completely fresh, will I lose anything? I'll keep all of my shaders and stuff like that, right?

No need to delete a character, just choose a slot for a second character.

Anyone knows if I can infuse a one piece of gear with another type?

As in, use a Helmet to infuse a Chest?

I'm pretty sure that they need to be the same item type.

How long is TTK's campaign on average? I ONLY have vanilla Destiny, which I played back at launch, and I'm wondering if this is worth getting TTK + expansions.

The "story" is broken up into thirds. First third is about 3-4 hours, then the quests open up. That is the second third of the main story, and a bunch of side stories and mission in the universe. Last third is end game Raid, which will be the conclusion.

I've already sunk 22 hours into it and am probably half way, but some of that is loot spelunking. There's 80 of so quests.

Not to mention that there is storytelling within the dreadnought patrol through the use of environmental puzzles and scanning. Just seeing how all the little pieces of the world come together to obtain secret treasures is some Dark Souls tier world building.

I'm sure this has been asked before..

I only played vanilla, though I did purchase the digital deluxe edition.

I got burnt out even though I hardly touched the grind.

Is it worth my while to buy taken king?
How much of the vanilla game is revamped?
You can play the revamped parts of vanilla by just downloading the patch, there's no need to buy TTK. The expansion storyline content you already paid for has been updated to use TTK's new quest systems as part of the free patch.

In terms of storyline content TDB and vanilla were about the same quality. HoW has better story missions but was also short. TTK seems to have better quality missions and also way more content.

This expansion kicks ass. The quests after the main story are great.

How are you guys primarily getting your legendary marks? Does crucible drop them?

This game. Destiny has gotten a LOT more interesting. Only issue is I don't have enough hours in the day to play it in between work and sleep. Been having a lot of fun exploring the Dreadnought trying to figure out the new secrets and mechanics.

Also Court of Oryx is great for farming blue engrams you get so many.

that's the part that doesn't kick ass. they're a bit obscure at the moment.

-daily pvp gametype
-daily story mission
-weekly nightfall
-first 3 weekly heroic strikes
-dismantling year 2 legendaries
-rewards for some quests

that's it i think. unfortunately they aren't awarded for just playing the game like the old marks were, which is part of the problem.

The first match you do each day gives 15

I kinda wonder what exactly that does to Crucible matches, when suddenly 50% of the players don't give a shit and are just there to get their marks in as quick a time as possible. I wonder what the statistics on a normal Salvage match are, versus a Salvage match on a day when Salvage is the Daily Crucible activity.

I think we'll all get over this pretty quickly and soon we will all have Legendary Marks coming out of our asses, amassing huge bank accounts full of marks we have no way to spend.

That said, this system has really soured me on Week 1. The raid comes out tomorrow and I'm sitting with all my Light Gear around 250-something. I don't have any hope of getting geared up in time to do a blind run.....shit, I am not even at the right level to do the Weekly Heroic which would net me more Marks to get raid-ready gear. Part of this is just because I had some unexpected work obligations that took me away from the game yesterday and today.....but looking at all those laundry list quests now is just pretty daunting.

Sure there will be supposed "blind" runs in the next week or so, but you know every group is gonna have some dude who peeked at some YouTube videos and learned the mechanics.

So does the campaign end with
the fight with Crota's dad?

My buddy and I played through it today and it only took us
4
hours.

I know there's still the strike and raid, but is that really all the campaign? Why are people acting like that's a lot of content?

Well, with Persona 5 being delayed I ended up picking The Taken King up today. Had a Destiny addiction for a couple of months at launch then got bored and quit before the first Season Pass expansion released. Hopefully my new controller's analog sticks hold up better than me launch ones did at Destiny's initial launch.

Do I need to progress through the story missions before I unlock the strikes? I'm level 40, but only a few missions in. Can't remember if that's how the vanilla game was, since I've mean MIA for a long time.

Edit: With regards to the strike playlist, I mean.

I actually struggled to find something to spend my legendary marks on before. I hit the cap and needed to lose some. Not even sure how I'm managing to get so many, I guess mostly stuff I can't do again till next week.

Pretty much everything besides buying year 2 exotics from blueprints is semi useless and only handy as a starting point since 300 atk/def is the highest you can get. Making me worry about Xur tomorrow.

I guess you are new to Destiny (or trolling). Finishing the campaign doesn't even scratch the surface compared to the amount of things you can do afterwards. This is not a single-player game where campaign is the meat of the content.

I've sunk more than 20 hours in it since TTK launch and I'm not even Raid-ready yet.

Once you finish this quest, 12 more will open up for you. You have to complete journeys and they will appear. The campaign only finishes for good in a mission on Fobos, where it all started. You kill the final Oryx Echo. There are a total of 18 new missions on TTK for you to do, not counting the journeys you can do.
