Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

With all this talk of polls, we should do a GAF street fighter poll once SF5 is out. Could be interesting.

I can already imagine the salt lmao.

If we're going to run with fantasy lists, it would be really great if we just stopped talking about these meaningless popularity polls none of us care about. Even better, instead of just droping the names of characters we like, we could try and list characters that add something interesting or new to the game.

My pick is Twelve. I know he's not well liked, but his air dashing + walking under fireballs + invisibility make him a crazy fun and unique character to play. Because of his mobility and specials he can be incredibly agressive and pressure from at long-range. Best of all, his normals have the range and (ideally more) priority to let him play keep away like a traditional zoner.

Also, his animations would look great in the engine. He's basically just a less visually excessive Darkstalkers character, and we all know that's dead.
I was thinking that. He reminds me of Zabel, who can rushdown and keep away pretty effectively, only Twelve can't do either of those things. Only die lol. If they buffed him a little I can see him being pretty good. He is my main, but I'm not too anxious to see him come back.

I know it seems like sarcasm and all but am actually agreeing with what you are saying.
Yep, we're on the same page

Aw, why'd you have to go and remind me of this awesome bastard

Capcom's next fighter needs some Darkstalkers in it :(

Arguments for Dhalsim being in the main roster:

According to Dahlgren, we'll be seeing eight classic characters "that you'd expect in a Street Fighter game,"

One of the more blatant tips from Combofiend: "Our goal is to make sure there's a character for everyone's style... We want to shy away from clones."

-There are a lot of anti-zoning tools in the game, and not many to use them against (At least not someone who is supposed to play as a zoner)

Arguments against Dhalsim being in the main roster:

-So many anti-zoning tools that you have to ask yourself, how would he manage?! (Without a ton of tools. Hence Alex Valle's recent tweet:

If sim is in the game, he's going to be an absolute nightmare for ppl or a punching bag. Tough to balance IMO. Hope for a slightly new style

-The leaked list that seems the most accurate right now, predicts Alex and Urien.

-People hate to fight against Dhalsim and he wrecks beginners.

Gief/Sim or Alex/Urien are both great choices to finish the roster. They all have diverse playstyles that would fit perfectly into an already diverse roster. Alex/Urien would be better suited for final reveals, but I'm still hyped to see either group. Though I could still see Akuma slipping there.

Oddly enough, the two I'd want to see the most are Urien and Dhalism. I'd love to see how they'd transition into SFV.

This would be the absolutely most interesting for me too!:P

I think there's a lot of value in having Sim in the roster even though I fucking hate Sim. We gotta use these anti zoning tools for something

Yeah, I think there' s a lot of value in having Dhalsim's playstyle on the roster. As a character design, not so much. Tired Indian stereotype doesn't really hold much value for me.

It just feels like, as stated before, having SFII characters at the end to round out the initial roster (Balrog, Zangief, Sagat, Dhalsim, etc.) would just feel anti-climatic. Sure, there's DLC, but that's just DLC. That isn't what we'll be playing on Day 1 (unless we pay up). As for zoning, either Zen & Laura could easily be zoners (hell, maybe both). But with how the game is coming along, it looks like zoners would get their asses kicked unless they have a means to get around everyone else's anti-zoning tricks.

Can I just say I think its going to be really weird having Karin around without Sakura? Feels like a yin without a yang. Kind of like having Iori without Kyo in KOF. Hopefully Sakura is one of the characters in the first major content update.

I feel like they're gonna have Rainbow Mika be Karin's rival instead of Sakura.

Thank You. R. Mika and Rashid looking like new mains.

Guys, I think Laura is a member of Shadaloo. And before anyone says "Vega's description said one of the 4 Kings of Shadaloo", Capcom USA fucked up the localization. In the Japanese version, Vega/Claw's description said "One of the 4 Devas of Shadaloo". Devas do include females, as the word is a unisex meaning for "A divine being or god".

Why Laura? Why not Zen?

It could be Zen, sure. But why use a unisex term like "Devas" in the Japanese version if you weren't gonna include a female? For all we know, both Zen & Laura could be Shadaloo.

Or. Ooor Laura is confirmed Poison tier:P

We also have to consider that both Sagat & Balrog left Shadaloo as of the events of Street Fighter V (Sagat left as of Alpha 2, Balrog left as of Street Fighter IV). If there are still 4 Devas/Kings/Heads of Shadaloo, Bison must have found 2 replacements.

4 hours of this dude playing Karin on stage and the first time anyone thinks to hit standing fierce to anti-air is Momochi's first match. I understand most dudes have never played Alpha 3 but damn, come on now. Push buttons. They do things.

Lol. That was such a great normal in A3.

It's revealed by Urien in SFIII that Shadaloo has fallen by that time, though how exactly is unclear. Urien only makes a vague hint that Chun-Li is one major person in its downfall. According to the Street Fighter III supplementary books, Shadaloo's conception and its actions were planned by the Illuminati, but Bison is said to be unaware of their influences. So if we keep that in mind, there's the possibility that by this point, the Illuminati cut off Shadaloo's funding. And while this wouldn't take them down for good, this would spiral into their downfall (which seems to be the driving point of the Street Fighter V story). This is why I strongly believe that we'll see an Illuminati rep like Urien. That plus Bison losing both Balrog & Sagat would line up with that story arc for the game.

I swore that I read that somewhere else. I'm trying to remember where I saw this information

He could have reinstated Sagat and Balrog.

He could have reinstated Sagat and Balrog.
Sagat only joined to have his rematch with Ryu. After that happened, he didn't give a shit about Shadaloo. Sagat has since become more neutral in his alignment. Balrog also left Shadaloo during SFIV, though at least he could be paid into coming back by Bison. So assuming that Bison paid Balrog to come back, that still leaves one seat that needs to be filled.

Not if Sagat had anything to say about it. Sagat is a scary dude.

Yeah, I'm just saying it's possible, not that it's likely. Balrog seems like an opportunist so he'd probably return, Sagat has developed enough returning would be totally out of line for his character.

Sagat only joined Shadaloo to get a salty runback on Ryu, now that he's done with his Chris G ways there's no reason for him to work under Dictator again aside from some good ol' convenient brainwashing.

I like the idea of one the new characters being a new Shadaloo member. Perhaps the new characters will consist of two good characters and two bad characters.
