Karin announced for SFV

She looks pretty different from different angles.

I don't have any issue with how she looks either way though. In fact I haven't really had an issue with the way any of the cast looks, but that's just me.

I'm confused... people think she looks ugly? Is this that Cammy BS all over again?

Her animations add to the hideous effect, like the way her face stretches when she laughs. I think her default wear is also lacking shadows or any clothing fold, so it makes her look like a piece of plastic.

While the whole of SFV is pretty ugly I'd say Birdie is the best looking character in the game. Best animations and best style.

Oh well, in progress work and all that.

The whole of sfv is ugly now?

I mean, lets be honest here, Guilty Gear Xrd looks way better than this.

that's a totally valid opinion, but at the same time this game reallys benefits from being seen in person. I know that's kind of a whack thing to say, but it really stood out to me during the beta in a way that it just does not even in HQ 60fps footage

since we're on the subject, quoting KidA from the community thread (he probably posted this in here actually oh well)

indicative of model changes or just softer portraits? the bananas are fucking real tho
I was just about to post this here. Good thing you did.
I feel like the TGS portraits are drawn rather than being pictures of the in-game models.

Back to Karin, more archives from the TGS stream have been uploaded to YouTube.
Yeah. Either they've done away with the 3d in game models being the portraits or the faces are the newest faces that are yet to be updated in the playable builds.

THIS.

Am sorry but in motion SF 5 >>>>> GG Xrd. GG looks amazing in screenshots , but in motion SF 5 just animates sooo fking fluid. Its like butter melting in your mouth.
GG on the other hand looks gorgeous in screens , but animations are sub-par.

Just go watch that Karin trailer in 1080/60FPS , its a work of art.

The weeaboos and otakus want chun, Cammy and Karin to look all animu like, Jesus just go play guilty gear or something if you want that look.

Is this why I don't get the complaints? Every character has looked great to me from the get go. (save for some choice screen grabs but you can get a bad one from any game)

Eh. It's kind of apples to oranges. Xrd for sure looks good, but I'm of the opinion that nothing touches SFV for animations. I also greatly prefer the "action figure" look to a straight up anime aesthetic and it's for sure more unique.

another article where 4 japanese tweets are used to define all of japan

Nah it's true. On twitter,on news sites, and 2ch they mostly call her ugly. In fact before the recent alts were shown they were calling SFV "Busu 5" or Ugly 5 in English. It's due to not just the female characters, but also Ken.

Completely different artstyles. I think SF5 looks better in many ways than Xrd. I do love the way Xrd looks.

So, no, I don't think it looks way better than SF5. Most of the characters are just as roided up in the conversion to polygons as the SF5 people, but since they look closer to the sprites that so many people love, that gets glossed over. imo imo imo.

Yeah, this. I'd be hard pressed to say which one I prefer.

While I like SFV's look in general, I don't really think it's right to just label everyone complaining about her (or Cammy's) face a weeaboo or otaku. I don't know if they are asking for bigger eyes and giant chin, they just want her to look a bit more attractive. She's supposed to be a very pretty girl. Then again, she's an adult now and some people aren't really understanding that it isn't SFA Karin, it's the same character but years later.

On the flip side, I think Capcom is getting a bit of a pass because SF4 looked like dog shit and this looks significantly better. At least, I can admit to giving them a bit of a pass because I'm relieved that this looks legitimately good. Improved faces and hair and animations would make it look legitimately better IMO (all around, not just the chicks). But if nothing changes visually I'd be fine with it. It's still a beautiful game to look at. Except for some of the stage elements, they def could use some work (especially the waterfall stage).
I disagree SF4 looked great as does SFV, I really think the complaints are crazy for the looks but I have for pretty much every single comment on the look of the game.

Guilty Gear looks good but it doesn't look as good as SFV even just from the beta I played.

I know I'll probably get destroyed for saying this on gaf, but I've never really liked how Xrd looks.
It's literally like watching an anime since that's exactly what they were going for. Doesn't really have the same charm or same level of unique SF5 has. And SF5's animations are leagues ahead.

SF V is proving that animations can still be king in a 3D modeled fighting game. I always liked Xrd's art style but I felt that the gameplay was stilted stuck in 2D. Capcom's last few fighters have always given the player an unbelievable sense of movement and control in my opinion, and sets them above the rest of the competition.

MvC3 really impressed me actually, if we're talking recent good looking games. they really nailed the aesthetic on that one. so many wildly different characters translated perfectly.

Not even close. Unless you prefer jaggies and bad animation. Yes I know intentionally bad for gameplay reasons.

I don't know if you realize this but SF4, MvC3, TvC and Xrd use the exact same method of clipped animation.

If you don't do clipped animation you get whack-looking moves like Ryu's sweep in SF5 which looks awful in the context of an unrealistic fighting game.

Agreed, Dante was so perfect I wished that I could just play him with my arcade stick in DMC3. A 3D arcade action game meant for arcade sticks would be hella tight.

I always thought MvC3 looked amazing. Capcom captures character and personality through movesets so well.

I agree completely. The art direction in MvC3 is incredible. Visually, that game is going to hold up forever.

The only person who looks hideous is ken at the moment everyone else is fine.

V Ken is a huge step up from IV Ken, IMO.

haha, I've imagined the exact same thing. smash gameplay in the form of an action game would also be dope.

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom was better, IMO.

Still, I am preferring SFV over SFIV's art direction... with the sole exception of Ken, whose banana hair won't stop bugging me.

This is just some middle-aged woman from Osaka doing Karin cosplay…I hope

Called it.

Very cool design. I hope people don't complain about her face and get them to make it generic and super cute.

I'm sure this has been asked, but have we seen any new Cammy footage since the DLC pictures? I'm still hoping the change was all a misunderstanding.

MvC3 looked like shit to me*. Worst looking game of last gen easily in my opinion. The visuals offend my senses, but thankfully the gameplay hasn't appealed to me since XvSF so I'm not missing out on account of how it looks.

*MvC2 looked awful too.

hopefully everyone has an alt out day 1, not just the pre-order ones we've seen. the others got totally new hairstyles, so ken will surely have a good alternative.

You're crazy. I hate Marvel, but even I will defend how it looks. Marvel made quit the fgc weekly thread for a while because it was filled with nothing but Marvel.

Sure. Admittedly, I only ever really played GGX though.
Hum. What do you think it lost, then? I feel like the visual style transferred exceptionally well.

qcf AA, IMO.

I could see people not liking the art style of MvC3, although I disagree. I think for the hardware the game balanced its graphics and performance well.

Saying MvC2 looked bad though, I can't see how you could say that. Playing that game on a Dreamcast with a VGA box and a scanline generator is a glorious thing. It had a style of its own, with amazing sprites and 3D backgrounds for its time. Plus it's colorful as fuck.

Hair is the biggest flaw in sf5 so far. Except for Ryu and chun, it all looks bad.

Mvc2 is nothing but a bunch of sprites from lots of games with a fraction of the animation they originally had. It absolutely looks horrible.

The sprites were awful in tandem w/ the 3D backgrounds (which were fine). It was very jarring, and the frames of animation felt like they were at an all time low. CvS2 looks like shit to me for the same reasons. The style of these games is fine, the execution of the visuals though, awful.
