Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

Im a lapsed player who picked the game back up last week for 2.0 stuff. I was level 20 when I stopped..so why do I have all these Level 1 - 5 tutorial quests in my log. Real annoying i cant clear them out (and i dont mean abandon).

I've been doing this "exploit" since Xur popped up.

- Purchase "Three of Coins" from Xur
- Run the Story mission "Scorge of Winter" where you are tasked with killing Draksis at the end.
- Consume a "Three of Coins" prior to fighting Draksis.
- When Draksis has a sliver of health left, hit him with a rocket at point blank range, killing you both.
- Draksis will potentially drop an Exotic Engram, and you will respawn at the start of the encounter.
- Rinse/Repeat.

I'm averaging 2 exotics per 10 Three of Coins. Basically paying 14 Strange Coins for 2 Exotic Engrams.

I'm curious, does it matter if you do the normal or hard version of the quest when you're farming?

No. I reckon this will get patched out on tuesday so get in on it while you can!

I got 5 exotic engrams in 20 coins. No weapons tho :/ I bought 25 more coins today and am looking forward to trying again tonight :)

(I imagine rate of drops w 3 of coins will get reduced or it will only work on harder ultras)

Cooldown on Three of Coins would suck. If you die at all during the boss fight you would lose the buff and then be unable to use it again for 10 minutes.

I heard a streamer suggest adding a 10 minute cooldown to the coins or just make it only work on Strike bosses. Shouldn't be too hard to fix.

10 minuite cooldown will only delay the same thing, people will still go farm an easy boss in their free time using coins.

IMO the coins giving a chance of an exotic engram drop is bad, it really should be a legendary booster IMO and then making exotic engrams a very low percent drop from hard strikes.

Bungie will never do that sadly, their loot methods are weird.

What will Bungie do to fix this "exploit" ?
that'd work, but might be a more involved solution than something altering the item itself. a cooldown on use would do the trick

If someone wants to sit for 9 minutes and 45 seconds at a boss in between attempts for a total of 6 chances per hour, at that point I say go for it. They need a degree of quick practicality in the solution from a design standpoint

The buff is not lost on death..

However, a cooldown on USING the buff by killing an ultra, versus actually consuming the item, would still be best.

People spent hours shooting into a cave for a lesser chancestors at loot. Waiting 10 minutes would be nothing.

Hmm... I don't really know what you mean. The loot cave was

1) Endlessly grindable without any cooldown
2) Ineffective for the average player since it was based on a misconception about the game in the first place

When you say "waiting for 10 minutes would be nothing"- as in, people would still do it, sit around for 50 out of every 60 minutes to get 6 chances at an exotic? LIke.. o-ok... that doesn't really bother me (well, it's bonkers IMO, but it doesn't see me as the kind of thing that needs to be coded around).

We're talking about the difference between one every ten minutes and ten every two minutes. See what I'm saying?
A cooldown would be dumb, you can tackle levels in less time than that. A better idea is to limit its use for Strikes only.
Levels? You mean strikes or what? The entire point has to be to reduce the rate of consuming the buff.

Make it One of the best things about it is that it works on enemies as disparate as unique bosses out on patrol and even vanilla story mission bosses. This makes it a tool for hunting exotics that is viable for every type of player and there's nothing wrong with that.

Limit it to working strikes only would move the abuse taking place via suiciding solo on a story boss... to suiciding in a fireteam on a Strike boss. While simultaneously locking out pretty cool stuff like the chance of getting an exotic out of a random event boss on patrol.

Any advice on what would be the best legendary Auto Rifle for PvE?

For the moment I'm using Righteous VII with Fitted Stock/Rifled Barrel and Unflinching as a bonus... kind of underwhelming in heroic content.

I also have the Zhalo Supercell but I usually prefer using a special/heavy exotic weapons.

How about you can only buy a stack of 10 coins each week? Just limit the stock. And make them expire at the next weekly reset so you can't stock up. Or am I misunderstanding the exploit?

I wish Bungie added Gear Sets. Maybe 2 or 3 per character. I just want to be able to set a PVP gear set that I can toggle to when doing PVP and then switch back to PVE. This is just a simple quality of life thing. Much better to set stuff to the list and toggle than to equip each weapon and armour slot.

I know it's not a huge deal but it's one of those MMO things that are handy and speed stuff up. Wouldn't need to be stored on a server or anything either, just have the sets stored locally.

Would also be nice to have vanity slots so we can use pretty capes and arm bands and helmets and gloves while using the stats of the better ones from year two. Obviously turn them off in PVP so it's fair and no vanity for weapons at all. Would just be a nice thing to have. Everyone loves fashion.

Loadouts similar to COD or something would be good. Easy to swap between character builds.

Check out one of the apps like Tower Ghost.

There's a lot of personal preference with Legendaries, but I've heard very good things about An Answering Chord.

Zhalo is very very useful in PvE though, don't underestimate it. It can fill your super very quickly in addition to having Arc damage (one of the only available primaries to do so) and the chain effect.

I'm finding the progression in TTK to be very frustrating. I have a lot of quests that are very cryptic and I feel like I'll spend 30 minutes doing something and make no progress. I go to a patrol zone to kill the Ultra Takens, but it feels impossible to do solo. They are too spread apart to kill in time. I manage to find a group and I happen to be dead right when the Ultra dies and it appears that it didn't register. I'm at the point where Heroic strikes are too hard and all I have left to do are these cryptic quests.

But I can do way more than 10 strikes in a week :( I don't think the solution should controvert legitimate intended uses.

If Heroic strikes are too hard, the level 36 non-heroic strikes shouldn't be. They will still net you tons of engrams and that means progression.

Only thing useful I am getting from them are exotic engrams, but I can obviously only equip one at a time. I just don't like how these quests feel spaced out. It's annoying to wait for a Taken group to appear and play whack-a-Taken alone and fail.

My fix for the ToC "exploits" would be to make them usable only on Heroic Strikes or endgame Raids.

The issue is that I'm able to "roll" on a ToC every 20-30 seconds with Draksis kills. Making me actually invest 10-20mins for a roll is a big difference.

wait I dunno what you mean, you aren't getting blue engrams from strikes?

But why should you be able to use the item/buff for every boss you fight in a week? It should be a limited thing that is considered a bit of a gamble. The problem now is people getting too many exotics too quickly, no? The fact it's essentially an unlimited item only checked by how many strange coins you have is I'd argue the main contributor to the exploit.

Yes, but I'm at the point where they are typically not better than what I have. I'm at 266 at the moment.
Engrans always decrypt into things close to your current light level. So you'll always end up finding some items with higher light from engrams.

Also can't you do heroic strikes? I believe the recommended light is 260
