LEGO Dimensions |OT| Not Lost Dimensions

Oh god, is it like that? Horrible.

Not all of that describes both.
Do you need to keep the old games for both? Yes, but for different reasons.
In Infinity all story content is locked behind playsets and those playsets only work with the version of Infinity they were released for.
In Skylanders 1-2 hours of side story is locked behind playsets for each game and the bulk is playable without playsets. The playsets only work with the game they were released for.
Characters in Infinity can only be used in story mode with one playset. A lot can't be used for story at all.
Characters in Skylanders work in all levels released later. Characters from the first game still work. But newer characters aren't compatible with previous games.

I imagine we won't see stuff like that until a sequel, right? I'm sure everything's been datamined for this year. Next year I could see a sequel with TMNT, Star Wars(?) and maybe some original sutff like Lego City. I know the City stuff is still their most popular original brnad. I think the Chima stuff has fallen in popularity in recent years.

Sorry but Star Wars and Marvel are out of reach, since Disney has Infinity and would not allow it.

TMNT is not looking good too, since Lego droped its line in favor of their Ninjago brand (did not want competition).

Does anyone know. We have bought de scooby doo team pack. I put Shaggy on the portal but i didn't get the building instructions for the mystery machine. Anyone a idea why?

Go into the scooby doo world/dimensions and it should pop up while your doing the story.

That has nothing to do with it. I built everything I have in the room before the first level, including the Mystery Machine.
EDIT: Actually, that's not quite true. I built the Batmobile outside of the game.

instructions for the bat mobile was in the box. The only instructions you get for the scooby pack are for scooby & shaggy.

There is instructions on how to build all the leg dimensions stuff on the lego website. All you need is the number that is on the front cover of the booklet that comes in each set.

https://wwwsecure.us.lego.com/en-us/service/buildinginstructions?domainredir=service.lego.com

So for for the Simpsons pack, the # is 71202. You enter that in the set # box and press the search button. All the instructions on how to billed that whole pack will be available to download as PDF's.

Did a reset with only Shaggy on the portal that did the trick.

Edit:

With Shaggy on the pad, hold Y and select "build instructions" at the bottom of the wheel.

Sorry missed your post. Thank you.

I know, but if you build outside the game and never find the in-game instructions the game will just see it as a blank tag.

The Dimensions Jurassic World hub is MUCH better than the official Lego Jurassic World hub.

For one, you can go diving with the Mosa, you can head out to the Raptor pen, and, as a bonus...

It takes place post story. So don't head there if you haven't seen the movie/played the other Lego game.

Don Hertzfeldt shoutout. Nice.

Are there
Indominus Rex bones
in the lake?

Well, it takes place after the events of the game based on the movie, so
the Indominus is technically inside the Mosa. However, one of the builds in the hub is of a memorial statue of the Rex and Blue standing on the defeated Indominus. And some NPCs reference their fight and the events that happened. Including a nice jab at the original movie.

I see she eventually did marry a marshmellow...

The portal 2 level pack was a good deal better than the BTTF one, and the only way to get the portal hub world. Just heading there now. Interested to see what they've done here.

Does anyone know if Bill Murray is voicing Venkman in the GB stuff? I haven't seen any video footage of him yet and I know the set doesn't come out for a while, but with all the other big-name talent in this game I was hoping they managed to get him onboard.

Possible. as per this site

LEGO Dimensions will include many other famous voice actors in addition to those featured in the video. Members of the original cast of Ghostbusters, The Lord of the Rings, The Simpsons and Scooby-Doo will also be reprising their roles for the game!

Yeah, 'members of the original cast' might just mean Dan Ackroyd and Ernie Hudson though. Ackroyd will do anything GB if asked and Hudson always loves revisiting the role, but Murray is usually harder to get onboard.

I'm hoping that him being in the previous GB game means he'll do it- it's kind of the make-or-break for me buying that Ghostbusters set. If Venkman isn't Murray I don't know if I'd bother.

Portal world is good. I still need to upgrade some of my stuff to be able to complete more side quests. Checking out LOTR hub now, to see what they've done on their, what, third take on middle earth.

Amazon delivered a few hours ago, along the Infinity 3.0 original Star Wars stuff. Played that for an hour, been building stuff from this since. Then take a bath, and finally play this! :p

Already built:
The base, Gandalf, Batman, Wildstyle, Shaggy, Scooby (along the Wicked Witch and Flyring Monkey yesterday).

Still have to build:
Mystery Machine, Scooby snack, Portal 2 stuff, BTTF stuff, Simpsons stuff.

Is the instructions for the Batmobile it's own booklet? The only booklet I have is the one for the characters and the portal. Instructions to build the Batmobile (bag 3) is not in this book.

Edit: I put in the number for the starter set (71171) and it doesn't come up.

So the instructions for the batmobile isn't in the game?

no I screwed up. Just checked the booklet and it wasn't in there. I must've got the instructions in game when I was required to create it.

I apologize.

The instructions to build things other than the minifigs is in-game. Some you need to get to in level packs to assemble and use, others you just bring up the build instructions menu and you're good.

The portal world worth it if you don't have much attachment to the franchise? Like I beat them, but I don't really care much for the world and it's not my favorite or anything

That's ok. As long as it's in-game, that's fine. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

Thanks.

Probably not. I mean it's quite puzzley compared to some of the others as you'd expext. A lot of the fun is the world and lore though, yeah.

Going to quickly check out Lego movie world then bed.

Bad news, from http://lego-dimensions.wikia.com/wiki/Peter_Venkman, Its not Bill Murray. But since the site is a wiki type site, hope it isn't true. Still buying the pack regardless though.

The LOTR hub is tiny and the layout makes no sense.
The Oz one is really faithful and detailed and has Kansas, too. You can even ride the tornado back to Oz. Those are the only ones I've looked at so the hubs seem like a real mixed bag so far.

"Tiny" is disappointing, but I suppose you can't expect a hub to scale with a standalone game, especially as you have three hubs in the starter pack, and 14 in total.

In stark comparison to the short mission you get with the BTTF pack, apparently the BTTF world is pretty fleshed out, with Hill Valley represented in four time periods (1885, 1955, 1985, 2015) and you can do time travely stuff by affecting the past and going to the future to see the results.

This is just second-hand info since I don't have the game yet but it sounds like SOME of these worlds are very large, like BTTF and Oz. And then some are smaller. Which is interesting to me, because Oz only has one figure so far, but something like LOTR has, what, four characters so far? And they haven't even done Frodo yet (I suspect he's going to be in a LOTR level pack) but that world is tiny? Compared to a huge Oz for one character and an elaborate Hill Valley for two? It's real weird.

Can anyone who has access to all the existing exploration worlds give us an idea of which ones are worthwhile and which ones aren't? It's one of the areas of info most lacking about the game.

Played some of this last night - I loved it! I did, however, get a little concerned when playing through The Wizard of Oz level and there is a part where Peter Venkman is the only character that can get through a bit to the right..

Does that mean we can't go down there until January? If so, does anyone know if that impacts getting the platinum trophy?

Supposedly the levels are made by different groups of people, so I guess it makes sense in that way.

Quick question. I know Robin is his Teen Titans VA, but is Cyborg too? Rumors of a Teen Titans Go set are relatively strong and I would be very interested in getting that whole team together in Dimensions if they're going to release Starfire, Beast Boy, and Raven too. (Robin is a given)

I know it's been said before, but I want to re-iterate just how big a ripoff those level packs are. All you are getting is a level unlock and it costs $5 more than the Team pack which comes with an extra toy. Just look at the prices.

Fun Pack (1 minifig and 1 vehicle/item) $14.99
Team Pack (2 minifigs and 2 items) $24.99
Level pack (1 minifig and 2 items) $29.99

It would be one thing if they sold the level packs at the same price as the team packs and just explained it helps pay the cost of making a level, but there's no way anyone can't see that this is less toys for more money. As it is, all of them are way over priced. Fun packs should start at $10.

Well. After building everything before starting (among doing some other things) and downloading a 1.5GB patch of the game on Wii U, finally played it!

Great so far. Plays like every other Lego game, but the new franchices are nice. With Portal 2 currently been my favorite. The dynamic of having to move figures on the portal is an interesting addition, though I understand why some my hate it.

Still have yet to try some of the figures, but no problems do far.

I'm not defending the pricing, just trying to get it in proper perspective. So:

The thing about the Level packs people should consider is that they let you unlock adventure worlds the earliest.

Look at everything in Wave 1 and the upcoming waves, you'll see what I mean.

Want to get into the Scooby adventure world? You need the Scooby Level pack because there are no other scooby figures coming out that are announced.

Want in the Simpsons adventure world? You can buy the Simpsons level pack and get access now, or wait until bart and crusty are released in over a month and get access then. Up to you.

It's the same with all the level packs: they get you access to the adventure worlds for that new wave. In some cases you can wait and get figures from that theme in later waves, but in other cases like with Portal and Midway Arcade you can only get access if you get the level pack.

This is in addition to the playable level they come with.

The hub world only has *three* timezones in BTTF. 1885, 1985 and 2015. If the level actually had a good chunk of 1955 content (as it should have) then the 1955 omission in the hub world wouldn't be a problem.

I didn't think LOTR was that tiny. I found Moria. I presume you can get in Bags end. The Lego movie one was rather cool looking but I haven't played in it much yet.

The Wicked Witch said "I'll get you my pretties, and your giant dog, too.". That has to be because Scooby-Doo was in my party at the time, right? It wouldn't make sense otherwise.

Pretty sure Batman says something like "I'm a bat" after she says that.

Any list yet of which figures are the most worthwhile in terms of having all the abilities? So far I've picked up the the level packs, Legolas, and Wonder Woman.
I don't have a list, but from my experience Scooby Doo has been helpful for digging up the dirt piles and the Wicked Witch can destroy silver objects. I always bring them along.

I haven't been able to dig in too much yet but Wicked Witch is fairly useful. Above average. She's also an easy buy since she's the only Wizard of Oz figure in the first 5 waves (maybe the only one they will even make, period.)

It's not a short video, but check this out. It shows every character's abilities from the first 5 waves. Notice some characters have only like 2 abilities, others have like 5 or so. Try to get characters with abilities you don't yet have.

Wonder Woman and Superman look super useful, they have a huge selection of abilities each. Superman has 7 abilities. He's probably OP.

While it's not fair to judge a character just on the NUMBER of abilities they have, quite a few only have 2 abilities. Like homer. The sonar abilities look a bit slow to use so I probably won't be using Homer or Marty much outside of their worlds.

Also, vehicles have their own sets of abilities too.

That sonar thing is also on the 2nd model of the Batmobile, for example. By unlocking and switching between the different models, you may even be able to avoid buying certain characters altogether.

Is it possible to platinum the game if you only buy the starter pack? I know I'll end up buying quite a few of the other packs eventually, but I can't afford them all in one go.
