Boycotting MW2/Activision by buying it used.. anyone?

I won't be boycotting anything. But as multi was a big draw for MW2, I won't be buying it on release, rather I will be waiting till it's dirt cheap on Steam, just for the single player. But if COD4 is anything to go by I will be waiting a long time.

Again thats not really a valid reason when your plataform never had the servers. Its more like a fake excuse if anything.
Well, it's not like he actually needs an excuse, it's his fucking money and he can do what he wants with it.

But even with that said, showing solidarity with fellow gamers against corporate bullshit would be enough of a reason. :p

Wrong thread? This one is about Modern Warfare 2.

From all the "used = Gamestop" assumptions made in this thread, their mindshare in the US must be a lot larger than I thought, btw.

There's a lot of other places for getting used games.

Its not their mindshare you hear here, its their marketing department

Ehh, I have little interest in MW2. I'm much more interested in Borderlands and L4D2. But this kind of mentality is just flat out retarded.
I just always see you on their side. See: Guitar Hero Anything.

The only reason you see it as retarded is because it's called a "boycott". People voting with their money is not retarded.

I'll do the lot of you one better- I'll continue to ignore the first modern warfare.

I haven't even played the demo of a COD game since the second one came out, I just don't give 2 craps. The fact that it's actiborg releasing it is merely icing on the shit cake.

Nah man they're buying used. Might cause Activision to go bankrupt tbh.

The Netherlands man :).

I feel bad for you son. I've discovered and appreciated some truly amazing games whilst renting them instead of paying for them. I intend to do that for every single player game.

£4 a month, keep as long as you want :D Saved me from buying Fallout 3 and Arkham Asylum. Instead of spending £80, I spent £8 and finished them both.

Well, I defend GH because I love the games. Most Activistion games I barely care about, and COD does nothing for me. But overall as a publisher they're certainly nowhere near the worst. It's not like they're a shitty publisher like Square.

Feel free to check up on my steam list. I will not buy this game at any price, things remaining as they are.

This whole argument is retarded. Hell, its even in the thread title.

1. You can't boycott a game. You can just choose to not buy it.

2. You're going to boycott Activision starting with one of their best titles? Not with Guitar Hero : Shit version, you're going to start with the best thing all year? Crazy.

I guess you didn't read my post where I said I misworded my thread. Yeah probably not.

I'm not buying any Activision games since early this year, I don't care if MW2 or any of their games are good. But that's my personal desicion, I don't think you guys need to start a campaign about it or against this particular game.

To be honest, yeah, that's how it works. I wouldn't be surprised if gaming in general was equated to GameStop for a lot of people in the US, either.

Don't wanna offend any COD/IW fanboys but MW2 isn't some magical game that people need to play or they'll die unfufilled. I may boycott it completely and not even play it to be honest, no big loss to me.

I'll be buying used, being based in the UK, primarily because of the price hike.

There are rumors the supermarkets here will go into a pricewar, and the pricing won't be so bad (indeed, game, amazon et'al are a bit more expensive than the usual online pricing, but not too much), but my mind was made up by activisions latest shoddy activities, such as the brutal legend courtcase, this price hike "experiment", and the fact they appear to be looking at EA 12 months ago and thinking "that looks like a good idea!"

I can't belive the amount of people on gaf that just think we should shut up and consume, without caring about the hobby we love so much, and the companies that provide it.
I think we all know where that brings us... :lol

Didn't infinity ward get created because 2015 employees got sick of the corporate BS with EA (constant expansion packs, no innovation with MOH) Perhaps eventually some inspiring IW chaps will do the same if activision carries on this way, and the cycle repeats itself yet again.... those who fight monsters.....

I don't buy anything published by Activision. I might cave on Starcraft/Diablo but I'm honestly not even sure that will get me to cave.

There is a wide variety of great games coming out all the time. More than I can ever play in my free time. So its incredibly easy to take a moral stand when you feel a publisher operates with policies you find distasteful, just don't buy their shit.

I'll enjoy me some Borderlands, Uncharted 2, etc. this holiday season instead, thanks.

I find it very easy to take a moral stance against games I don't give a shit about. So yes, I'm boycotting the fuck out of this game so hard. Rage.

You are boycotting one game due to shady publisher yet you have an EA game in your avatar?
Modern day EA is just so much better than modern day Activision. There's really no comparison.

Where are people buying all these used PC games?
Honestly half the posts in this thread are people that never played a PC game outside of solitaire and bejeweled. They just needed an excuse to boycott MW2. EviLore is genuine in his sentiment though.

TheGreatDave said:
Spell it out then. What's the reason for your proposed boycott other than "Grrr CEO comments!" and PC gamers getting fucked when it comes to dedicated servers (which doesn't affect most people buying the game)

As a consumer, he can use any reason to not cough up money to a company that really doesn't give a shit about anyone. What's so hard to understand?

I'm not buying it on PC until they patch in dedicated server support. I'll rent it for 360 and play the campaign that way.

I was going to buy MW2, then I remembered that I bought MW and didn't care too much for the singleplayer, specifically the infinite enemy spawn points, so I canceled my preorder and switched it to Borderlands.

I guess its a boycott. I dunno, but I do know I'll be buying a game I will probably love and get many hundreds of hours of enjoyment out of rather than one I really didn't want that I was buying simply because I was caving in to peer pressure.

Does that make me better than the boycotters, GAF?!? I NEED YOUR ACCEPTANCE!!!

Edit: I suck at teh grammar and punctuation

And even i am moderately surprised
to a company that really doesn't give a shit about anyone.

do we have a list of companies that DO give a shit about anyone?

Pretty much all gaming companies have curled one off on us recently, when do we start the mass boycot and take up knitting ?

We don't need one. Just buy whatever games that you think are good, and everything will work itself out eventually.

Well when you have a company like Activision that just comes out and says "Yes, we'd charge gamers more money to buy games if we could", they are on a whole new level.

Would you like my PSN and XBL handles to check up on me?

What's so hard to understand about boycotting/protesting/not bending over for a company that tries to fuck with their customers? It's kind of common in every other industry.

Hey guys.. so after Kotick's remarks, and the recent no dedicated servers for PC debacle, I have decided to say fuck you to IW/Activision by buying used. This will be a hard thing to do for me personally, because a lot of my XBL friends are going to bitchslap my ass for not buying it day one. If I can get it day one used, then hell yeah I will. Doesn't really matter if it costs me close to a new copy.

I know especially Eric WK is going to bitch to me about this but whatever.. Borderlands will do fine till I can get this second hand. I was hoping some more people would do the same and support the cause :).

Let it be known that I have nothing against the IW devs in particular, I mean they work hard on this game but yeah.. the publisher doesn't give a fuck about it's customers, and apparently neither does IW about the PC customers ( where the company has it's roots ).
I like video games enough to hang around here, but you seem too emotionally involved with games. Maybe, I'm too old for this.

eh buying used wont solve its problems, the single player is a nice in a linear scripted sequence (aka one playthrough) but I prefer the halo setup of player skill and good A.I. bots, versus the CoD setup of stupid, infinitely respawning "stupid" enemies until you cross the checkpoint line".

and I cannot stand mutiplayer games without at least 30 players, which of course wont be possible using listen servers.

borderlands/l4d dont apply as they are in a more co op genre.
