PS4 gets a new, lower price starting Friday: $349.99

Companies rarely use exchange rates to have equivalent prices in each country. For example, on Steam it's common to have a $1 == 1e rate when pricing games.

We can't be 100% sure what Sony logic was. But it does seem a bit weird that one country gets only a $20 reduction while other country gets $50.

Because they would lose money?

Looool wish they announced that earlier before I bought 1100 for Mgsv.sony half assed the 1200 model just like the latest PS3 controllers that were released awhile back but I would have still caved in.

Hmm I thought ps4 was selling better than wii did at this point ? So why the price cut. Iirc the wii took lik3 years lol

Maybe it's being cautious of the halo 5 release

Because pricing at 1 Euro when the base price is $1 works in their favour.

CAD weakening against the USD, when USD is the base currency means CAD has to rise/not fall as much.

It really is quite simple. Not sure why people are not understanding the concept there.

Considering the LE Destiny bundle sold out on Amazon when they dropped the price to $350, I think Sony will do really well at this price range. The SW bundle will be a huge seller this Xmas. considering it comes with a game and 4 classic titles. It makes it one of the best bundle deals at $349. Now if only they could throw in a free year of PSN+ lol...

Holy shit, well there it is. Most of us saw a price drop coming, but none of us would have thought it would be announced a day before it goes effective. Damn, I now think Sony has a good chance of winning October too.

As a Canadian, I paid less for my PS4 in year 1 than it costs now with the price drop. Being an early adopter actually paid off

This one has the most detailed OP, so I'm posting here. :D

Edit: BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. They raised CDN by $30.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL
Oh my god what the fuck? My friend is never going to buy it, but Sony also not giving a shit keeping the price as it is. Even games are 75$-80$ and then the 13% to shaft me from the behind just to make it even worse.

That $350 Battlefront bundle is going to destroy MS if they don't have a price cut in response. The bundles that MS put together make no sense to me. Halo 5 is their biggest game, and the game that is going to drive XB1 sales the most, yet the only Halo 5 bundle is way out of the price range for the mass market. Targeting only the most dedicated fan with your killer app bundle is just crazy to me. On top of that their other big bundles are 1TB and put them at higher than ideal holiday pricing. It is just bizzare.

The only thing I can think of is that MS plans to ride their current price until after Halo comes out. Battlefront is Sonys big push this holiday, so MS doesn't really need to counter until a week or two into November.

With current exchange rates:

CAD$449.99 = US$345.07
CAD$429.99 = US$329.73
CAD$399.99 = US$306.71

I don't know what people expect Sony to do.

The same thing they're doing in Europe, keep the same price regardless of exchange rates:

399€ = US$448.79
449€ = US$505.05
499€ = US$561.49

I like many predicted this $50 price cut after seeing Sony's financial statements forecast of higher sales but reduced price cut. Of course the other crowd kept insisting it was selling like hot cakes but if you look year over year it is really flat. Sony needed this to spike sales especially with no big exclusives coming this holiday season. Now the big question is what will the Black Friday bundles be like? I think they will just be 1-2 extra games bundled with the existing consoles but you never know and Sony might just knock it down $50 as they already have games bundled with the systems. I don't think bundling games for a vanilla ps4 unless they are bundling 3 games or more. Lol! I'm really looking forward to what Sony will do this Black Friday.

Doesn't make sense to me, since the PS4 is kicking ass, but I guess it makes sense to Sony! Good on them.
There's a lot of people waiting for cheaper prices. $350 is still on the high side for a lot of people. $350 for a PS4 and Battlefront is a nice deal, though.

Damn so you're telling me that the SW LE bundle I'm about to buy is not $400? Nice!

Great price drop Sony. Can easily see this momentum carrying them into the holiday season.

The base battlefront bundle being $350 is going to shift serious units. I would not be shocked if we saw a battlefront+COD bundle Dom Sony for $350

So the price drop is a real thing then :). A 50$ Discount is nice and the fact there are still bundles at that price (Uncharted and Battlefront) is nice; ensures people who are getting a PS4 will have a game to play out of the box.

Considering I've been waiting for a price drop and I want to get one before Ratchet PS4 lands, this seems like a good time to pick a PS4 up. Hopefully if everything lines up nicely, I will own one by December or January :D.

My PS+ backlog will keep me amused for hours XD!

All the gafers who read the decrease in revenue in Sony's financial statements a few months back were correct.

It's been close to 2 years and it's only getting this small price cut? I was hoping for more, even though I know better. PC it is.

These minute price cuts guarantee another long ass gen. Plus the way game development is going this gen I see these consoles around for another 5 years so they need to milk the price cuts.

Should have bought a PS4 at launch :(

Now that I'm looking to buy one, I'm going to pay more :(

Maybe I should wait until our dollar is better to see if the price equalizes or a slim is released :(
