PS4 gets a new, lower price starting Friday: $349.99

You think MS is going to drop 50 every year? So it will be free in a few years? They cannot keep doing this every year.

Exclusives have nothing to do with it...why are people posting this? Do you think it was sunset and forza that sold x1's last year instead of 329, assassins creed and 3-4 free games with the system? Many years 360 had no exclusives and ps3 had plenty yet 360 won easily.

I'll be buying my Xbox one in eight years then

Thanks for letting me know I can sleep now..good to see games that don't launch in Oct/Nov don;t exist. Sony will be allright. Sont has exclusives, just didn't launch them in the holidays...if that is a thing then LOL.

Good move by Sony.

I think they've timed this just perfectly and the new $349 price will drive sales through the holiday. A $50 price cut might not seem like a lot and it certainly isn't going to get super casuals on board any time soon but it will cause a boost to sales, similar to what the Xbox One saw last year with its price drop.

I don't see Microsoft dropping the official price further this year so we should pretty much have both consoles at the same price this holiday (barring retail specific deals) and so I believe this holiday will be a lot closer than last year.

great move, they're selling every unit they can deliver to my country (Spain) and there's no competition at all, they don't need to adjust price but to ramp up production lol, anyway it's a great move and of course expected, I can see Battlefront bundles literally flying off shelves.

Don't worry aboot it fellow Cannucks, these savings = 5 Large Double Doubles, a 10 pack of Timbits and 3 Tallboys of Molsen Candian.

Given the way MS has priced its bundles, it "looks like" a $50 overall price drop is very likely.

Now when and for how long is gery much in the air, but my guess is that it'll be official starting Nov 1st, and last till a few days in January (whether it'll continue then, not sure).

Imo, count on $299 Lego and Gears bundles for the Holidays, which honestly aren't that appealing in and of themselves but at least they'll be priced right.
At $349, those are duds currently vs PS4 Battlefront bundle @ $349.

I think they will. $349 bundles are very weak right know with Battlefront bundle at the same price.

I believe Target is still offering a $50 gift card with a PS4 purchase this weekend, could essentially get a new PS4 for $300 on this deal.

Am I wrong to assume this'll carry over to Europe as well? I hope they'll also release a €350
(dare I dream €300? Nah)
Bloodborne: The Old Hunters physical bundle early December.

Nice bundle prices.

I wonder if Microsoft has been able to cost reduce as much as Sony since launch. It was more expensive to make from the start. Haven't read anything about changes like Sony have done with the PS4. Price drop and game bundling must eat into their margins and they went all out the first two years.

My limited edition Star Wars bundle just got much more affordable. Also happy that CoD limited is more expensive. I thought pricing them the same was unfair considering the 1 TB storage

$20 off for Canadians 😂😂😂 Thanks Harper.

“Our goal at PlayStation has always been to offer the best place to play at a compelling value to gamers,” said Shawn Layden, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America. “We’re continuing to deliver on that commitment with this new price for PS4, making the console even more accessible to a broader audience this holiday. With highly anticipated games like Call of Duty: Black Ops III and Star Wars Battlefront launching soon and blockbuster exclusives like Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End on the horizon, there has never been a better time to join the PS4 community.”

Americans are celebrating, meanwhile a 20 dollar price drop is meaningless to Canadians. I'm glad I didn't wait to buy a PS4.

Hopefully Harper gets ousted so our dollar will recover as quickly as it tanked. But it's not like economic recovery will cause Sony to cut prices once they're already so high. The same thing happened during 2008 when our dollar skyrocketed (aka didn't drop as much) in comparison to the U.S. Dollar.

With current exchange rates:

CAD$449.99 = US$345.07
CAD$429.99 = US$329.73
CAD$399.99 = US$306.71

I don't know what people expect Sony to do.

Obviously Sony made the most common sense decision, and for Americans it definitely makes sense. But to Canadians, our prices are skyrocketing even though we aren't being paid more, and it's really tragic.

In our minds the dollar is still on par with the U.S. Dollar because they were really close last year. Suddenly spending 10-20 dollars more per video game with the same salary is really difficult.

Good thing I waited. Now I can get the Battlefront bundle at Gamestop, trade in the physical copy of that game for PS Store money, and use it to buy songs for Rock Band 4 on my new PS4.

And people still aren't satisfied! LOL!

It's all about context. It's not like we buy a PS4 and think "oh wow this is actually a good deal if you look up the current exchange rates!"

We think "Why did they increase the price of a PS4 by 50 dollars overnight without telling anyone? Why are games 70-80 dollars now? Where's the consistency?"

Companies rarely use exchange rates to have equivalent prices in each country. For example, on Steam it's common to have a $1 == 1e rate when pricing games.

We can't be 100% sure what Sony logic was. But it does seem a bit weird that one country gets only a $20 reduction while other country gets $50.

Almost 2 years before an official price cut? Wow is that the longest we've seen any console go without a price cut? (Wii U maybe?)

XB1 had there's 2 months out, right?

Canada is struggling. Someone start a telethon.

Too bad Canadian NPD sales numbers are no longer available. When the dollar was at parity, I'd assume sales figures were proportionally similar to the US. I'm curious about what the figures would look like now.

Wonder when/if xbox will announce their price drop, since that was the big rumor based off all of those bundles they announced.

The differences, a Euro is worth more than a US dollar, a Canadian dollar is worth less than a US dollar.
