Serious or not, European bread is rank 3 at best anyway. Asian bread and bakeries are outstanding. They might actually be #1. Excellent sandwich breads as well.
 
Being the bread fanatic that I am (judge restaurants by their bread), nothing is better than warm freshly made bread with a crispy crust. Mmmm, I can have bread for dessert.

Good bakeries use less sugar. But that goes for any country. Extra sugar is often used to make the dough rise faster. Real bakers will get up at 3 am to give the dough the time it needs.

That's a bakery. Not even duscussing the filthy shit they sell in grocery stores.

Agreed. I think we just have to give Europe time to learn how to bake bread properly and follow in the footsteps of the great American loaf.

We have brands here that specifically say "no HFCS" on the front.

That said, I haven't gone down the bread aisle looking at every brand seeing if they all have copious amounts of regular corn syrup in them.

And then there's the more gourmet or artisan style of bread, like if you went to actual bakeries and restaurants. I'm not sure how those would stack up either.

Nah, there are Supermarkets that make it fresh at the store, at least where I go. my favorite has the bakery there and open you can see the whole process. Also a wide variety of exotic foods from all over the world. Fresh meats/seafood there too man I am making myself hungry.

The skewed perception of American food (in particular) is becoming sickening so yeah, you're going to have some "super defense force" type responses as well as kneejerk reactions.

When I went to Drexel, one of the foodcarts nearby made the BEST breakfast sandwich ever. Oh my goodness was it so good. Unfortunately, they left when I graduated.

Food carts are usually the hidden gem of quality food.

It was a joke. Why would I try and seriously make it up when the US has many tasty cheese, a lot of which I've tried myself, including going on tours in North West Oregon.

Do you think I was seriously trying to spread properganda to non US posters that you don't have good cheese? Or is it more likely I was joking? I mean look at the shops I said. I deliberately said some (in my opinion) very good supermarkets.

To us: Butter goes on toast. It's not a sandwich spread, unless you're going to toast your sandwich bread.

It's not toast though, it's limpa. It doesn't taste like toast at all and does not taste good if you toast it. It's still super weird to me that you don't use butter on non-toasted sandwiches though! Like I said earlier, we basically use spreadable butter exclusively for breakfast sandwiches.
