TAKE THAT, TRUDEAU
It's not legal but the repercussion is a slap on the wrist from Elections Canada and a stern admonishment to not do it next time. Maybe a fine.
lol what where was this found
Goodale has been the party's deputy leader since 2010; in government I expect he'll either be put back in Finance again or else be Deputy PM with a role in overseeing government operations.Trudeau is in good hands if he keeps Goodale on Finance.
Ralph also is a likable guy.
All this talk about Liberals being bad with the economy is nonsensical
york university
I have to get myself one of these.. Oh my that's ridiculous, especially at York...
Reminds me of Quebec's language issue. Here in Edmonton I've probably heard a dozen different languages on public transit. Nobody cares. Everybody goes about their business. It's not an issue at all.The more homogenous a place the more freaked out it is even by hijabis. In a place where people see even niqabis going about their daily business the general sentiment is more like "Yeah it's weird and it makes me uncomfortable but those women are just doing their groceries and picking their kids up from daycare like everybody else so eh."
Ah I mean where specifically, I go to Yorku, I'm on campus right now and I haven't seen any of these. I'll have to keep an eye out.york university.... lol it says on the paper
There are mechanisms in place to prevent a PM 'running the country like a dictatorship'. This isn't really the place for a constitutional lesson, though.
I'm of course using these words figuratively, but it is a fact that the Canadian Prime Minister has a great deal of power. I'd be interested to know of the existence of checks and balances to the PM that I'm unaware of.
The PM appoints the Governor General, members of the Senate and Supreme Court, and can whip an entire caucus to vote the same so that legislation will pass with certainty.
We have seen obvious abuses of the last point with the Conservatives and 90s era Liberals and this is the main point of concern.

Yes, he would indeed the first dynastic PM. The only other prime ministers whose families had real political history were Martin (whose dad didn't become PM, but not for lack of trying) and King (whose grandfather was a rebel).I was thinking, but on top of the other firsts for Canadian Politics... wouldn't Trudeau winning also be the first child of a prime minister winning? Or does somebody else hold that title?

The Conservative club at York is like 5 people I bet. York, more than any school in this country, it's not a place where anti Marx sentiment will fly. Pretty sure the only class where I didn't hear something about Marx was in my stats class.
Couple days old but:
"You can see the look of rejection, of defeat on the faces of the [Harper]campaign workers. They're talking about jobs that they're going to have to find after the election in the private sector because they know there will be no jobs for them. And they're also having to contend with Stephen Harper, who I'm told is in a very dark mood lately. The last two days he's been snapping at workers and they say it's because the thought of losing to Justin Trudeau is like a nightmare to him. And outside the campaign you're hearing a lot of Conservatives saying that he should not have run this time, that he let his ego get in the way like so many leaders before him."

I know, I have a poli sci degree from York. If that poster lasts until 6pm today, I'll be shocked.
if I see any on campus, I'll snap a shot of the location (Schulich would be my guess)
I graduated from York two years ago and I didn't even know there was any Conservative group on campus.
Other possibility is Osgood
They are the fringiest of the frindge groups.
If you are suffucating due to income taxes then you won't have any left to save in the 1st place.
Income tax cut allows you to save that extra money anyway you want to like in a RRSP for example

But speak English in rural Quebec and people glare at you like you're an evil tyrant come to destroy their culture.
Possible also. If it's in the CFA/CFT, I'll eat my hat (I don't own a hat)
York U History over here!
Theoretically. Not in practice. The PM appoints the SC, but that doesn't guarantee him shit.
Eh.
Compound interest is a hell of a thing, and the people who are actually getting the tax cut (pretty well off people) are people who can afford to save money and would probably be better served with more TFSA room than an income tax cut. It'd also help out/encourage the middle class build wealth, which is an important part of reducing inequality, in my opinion.

So... the political headlines on the online edition of National Post is off the rails. One from Den Tandt about Harper's "data driven" policies (wait, what?) and another from Urback about the NDP. And this is discounting some of the more crazier ones from the past week or so.
So looks like we're heading for a Conservative minority, right?
To be fair, this seems to come after a lot of Socialist and Communist anti-Harper events on campus (who are mostly NDP anyway). I doubt it's targetting Trudeau.
Elaborate?Theoretically. Not in practice.
Both an activist Senate and a passive Senate have their own insurmountable issues.
Passive Senate (what we have now) is a pointless money drain.
Activist Senate (like the States) has this ugly issue of two levels of governments undercutting each other.
While true, most middle-class people can't even max out their current TFSA limits, so adding more room does nothing to help them, only the wealthiest 10%. Better to cut taxes for the middle-class, and then let them max out their TFSA with that money if they choose.
I don't think he means data-driven in the sense they're supported by sound data or science. Rather, I think he means that Harper's policies were specifically-calibrated to win votes. Or, at least, that's what I hope he means, because otherwise, yeah, it's an insane premise.
I honestly wonder how many people who do max out TFSAs and even RRSPs do so and then pile on debt they wouldn't have otherwise. Lots of people take out loans directly to max out their RRSPs.
I'm trying to think of a scenario where debt servicing costs would be lower than the benefit gained from doing this and nothing is immediately coming to mind.

My wife draws her entire, tax free income all year. Tax time is going to be tough for us, so I can imagine using a LoC to max out my RRSP contributions and bring our tax bill down, knowing that we should be able to pay that down pretty quickly.
I probably won't do it, but almost makes sens, and we're a pretty special case.
Nooo, not your paddington hat!
If we're all just busting out our York credentials, psych and sociology representing.
I'm supposing that she's on contract work or freelance? Tax time is always rough when it isn't automatically deducted from your paycheque...
Their first act better be to fire your ass.Maybe I suck at researching, but what is the NDP and LP stance on increasing the budget for the public servants and getting the current public servants more help, still suffering under Harpers budget cuts.
Every time I search public servants in this election, its the stupid niqab issue popping up.
"Go vote costumed and get a chance to win a trip." http://www.ledevoir.com/opinion/blo...ourez-la-chance-de-gagner-peut-etre-un-voyage
Some radio news guy is proposing a contest to go vote costumed and select the best to win a trip.
We looks like fucking idiots right now.
