Fallout 4 - The Wanderer Trailer [Live Action]

People worried about Bethesda not showing gameplay, you can see around 20 new seconds and new character at the end of the new video:

I never thought I'd see Bethesda start using cutscenes like that during conversations.
I thought they would use that weird "zoom at the person you're talking to" system, forever.
Then again if players character isn't voiced, a cutscene like that wouldn't work.

Showing off a character

Gaf, I'm not going to lie. I actually thought that was a full CGI only video. I only realised if was a live action when I logged on and heard people ITT calling it live action.

I guess games have come so far that a blend of CGI and Live Action is good enough to fool me.

Can't believe it's almost here. I also can't believe Fallout 3 came out 7 years ago. Feels like it was yesterday when University started and I was sitting there playing FO3 instead of listening to the teachers xD

I like how Bethesda felt bad about people complaining about weak graphics so instead of showin any gameplay they only show cartoons and live action or CGI

This trailer was kinda nice, but also completely empty on ideas, pretty much the most generic "fallout" thing a person could come up with. Weak effort.

It's a TV spot man. Ain't got' no time for ideas.

After seeing that brief cut-scene I patiently wait to unleash myself from out the bunker (+ my 2 best friends). I pray the character creator can handle so much beauty.

You put a lot of faith in Bethesada's character creator being able to render human looking minorties.

Haha... Hell naw, but I'm shooting for the moon while I can still aim. I know he's going to end up looking like a fat broken old Little Richard at best but in my mind man, I'll know the truth.

This along with the "Atom Bomb Baby" and the SPECIAL trailers makes me think they're really going back to the dark humour roots of Fallout. I expect we'll have some drama with the whole "you have a wife/husband and kid" thing, but not over-played like FO3 was at times.

Can I call the dog Commander Shepherd?

Todd Howard confirmed that you can't rename the dog. He appears as 'Dog' until a story point when you discover his name and from then on he appears as 'Dogmeat'.

I think the renaming speculation began because in the E3 footage he appears, albeit briefly, under both names.

A shame, I wanted to name him Master Chief.

I was doing reasonably well with ignoring this game was coming in under 30 days, but christ, it's just hit me. This will probably be the only game I look forward to in the immediate future. I cannot wait.

Can't believe the inclusion of voice acting and Bioware dialogue wheel has killed most of my hype for this game. Fallout 3 is my favorite game of last gen out passing the Souls game for me (I've come to appreciate the Souls game more in the long run) because how amazing it was playing F3 for the first time. A lot of that had to do with me imagining what my character is. Some of those elements are taken now with the choices they put into this game. Like in that footage showing off that character, you can see how basic the dialogue option are. Question, Neutral, Good, and Bad.

Still have the game pre-ordered and paid off already though.

Faces and animation looks bad compared to games like Witcher 3.

That's a grossly inaccurate statement. Witcher 3 has nicer character models for sure, but not immensely so. Facial animations weren't anything great, especially compared to what we've seen so far from FO4 either, both are adequate, but far from groundbreaking.

Bethesda is also half the size of CDPR and by all accounts FO4 has nearly 4x the amount of dialogue as TW3, ~111k lines vs ~30k lines. Given the differences in size I'd say they're pretty good.

Piper's animations looked more than fine. It was the Sole Survivor's that were a bit more rough, but they're also a character we can fully customize, totally altering the shape of their face and mouth. So it's not surprising that their facial animations won't be as precises as a fixed character's like Piper or Geralt.

I'm going to withhold full judgement until I play and I'm hoping at worst that I'll get over it, but I share the exact same reservations about the wheel and voicing of the character is. I mean I'm hoping I'm wrong or at the very least the other stuff is so fun it's not going to be a big problem but dialogue and talking to NPCs for me honestly is a huge reason I love RPGs. And the ability to pretend it's me and make decisions on how my character is going to act. I just really feel the wheel is going to limit what I can choose on top of the voice making it harder to pick how my character acts (with no voice I can easily just see in my mind how she says those phrases).

I won't say I know that is how it will be, but that's my biggest fear now for the game (unfortunately it affects a big reason I love these games). Other than that everything else looks like an improvement.

Umm I'm sorry but Piper looks like a plastic doll. The character facial animation is a lot better in TW3. The textures for the faces are a lot better too. Even on the console versions of TW3.

Also presumably TW3 had a smaller budget than F4.

I'm trying to reserve judgment as well. I just can't deny that it destroyed a lot my hype for this game. Besides that and the removal of skills, I think everything else looks great. The characters and graphics may not be so hot but that stuff doesn't bother me. I'm expecting it to run well despite how shitty Bethesda's past games ran on consoles. But this time they've given themselves enough time and they aren't working with the PS3's shitty architecture.

Bethesda also has about 100x the money as CDPR, they could hire additional staff if they wanted to. Can't use that as an excuse. Don't get me wrong I'm a huge Bethesda fan, but the truth is the graphics pale in comparison to the Witcher 3.

Idk, the minority characters they showed in the character creator during the E3 demo looked pretty good, I thought. The character creators seem to be getting better and better each game in terms of creating believable looking humans, though I will grant that even Skyrim and especially anything from FO3 back wasn't great at it.
