Honestly, mediocre they may be, Abrams deciding for himself what is or isn't canon would be distasteful as fuck and an insult to the fucking creator of the sandbox he is playing in.

I'd hope he'd have the tact to not straight up revise history on a universe he did not create. There already shouldn't be a need to go deep into referencing the prequels due to the timeframe of the film, but I'd hope he does not feel the need to go out of the way to contradict them.

Its poor wording because its 5:20am, what im basically saying is that they are using it tactically, or so it would seem, they are taking something which just looked like a cool effect but to their advantage!

I still think the better explanation is that people are not doubting the established history of the Jedi, merely that the Jedi continued to exist after they were systematically wiped out and that they played a major role in the events of the Rebellion against the Empire. It would be like a conspiracy theory that Free Masons are still operating at the highest echelons of government. Yes we know they did exist, but the idea that they continue to operate in a meaningful way would be treated very credulously.

Love Star Wars up till the prequels and yeah Disney is a horrible company that does horrible things. Their impact on copy right law alone is damnation enough.

He won't, especially with Kassdan as a co-writer on the movie, he even mentioned Lucas during E3 to much chagrin in the audience.

No but the New Republic would certainly release the information to all Planetary governments who would probably let the info trickle down to the people. So yeah, only way I can justify that conversation is that Rey just didn't care (which is fine I won't argue that)

Honestly tired of hearing about it, no matter what you think about the prequels they happened and they're canon. They're not going to write them off. They also don't really need to.

You know what else was distasteful as fuck and an insult to the fucking creator? The prequels. Fuck Lucas; he sold the shit and now they are where he can no longer hurt them. Pretend the prequels never happened and save the integrity of the first 3 films, please. RotJ was bad enough.

You have to be trying very hard to read those lines as pretentious nothings. They're quite banal statements within the context of the story.

A scavenger being prodded for her identity. A stormtrooper who is out of the job. Someone being trained in the force.

The problem we have is that from ROTJ to know, in the 30 years you seem to think there is a good government in place where my thought is that the last 30 years has been a constant state of war on a much smaller scale than the OT. You seem to have taken the end of ROTJ as a super happy ending. I don't think that's the case. And even with that said, they'll care more about rebuilding and less about blaming this on the Emperor and calling him a Sith. And really, Luke is really the only one that knows.

A lot of the dialog sounded like trailer dialog. Most blockbusters these days shoot scenes and lines which allow the trailer editors to pithily work in the main themes without giving anything away.
