Yup, the Jedi go from a revered counsil in the galaxy to some mystical cult only heard of through legends in the span of a few decades. Really does not make sense at all.
Well, I mean, how many important characters in the original trilogy were aliens? It's always been a story about humans, with some aliens and droids thrown in for flavor.
Ever asked yourself why not more prominent directors want to take care of episode 8 and 9? It's because the production team is going to make this movie and not the director. There will be only very limited creative freedom for them. So you don't have to worry that episode IX will be as campy as Jurassic World. It feels weird to worry about Episode IX already but the director is so hokey and light to me
Chewbacca, Yoda, Jabba come to mind first..
I've said it before, but I really want a new alien character as iconic as Chewie... Doesn't sound like there will be such a character in this film.

Indeed. The problem is not 6-7, the problem is the proximity of 1-3. If the Jedi had been fading for a couple centuries, due to the influence of the dark side or just unexplained, then they get eradicated then 50-100 after that Luke and Leia are born the timeline becomes pretty plausible I think. They feel consistent between ANH and this, unless we assume Luke publicises his acts. Which would be out of character, to me.
Seems if she has, it hasn't been her focus. Be cool to see her suddenly kick some arse with a sabre though![]()

And didn't they return in return of the jedi!?Yup, the Jedi go from a revered counsil in the galaxy to some mystical cult only heard of through legends in the span of a few decades. Really does not make sense at all.
There's one thing that kind of bugs me about this trailer, something that makes it very un-Star Wars-y. There is not a single alien in the whole trailer, aside from Chewie in a single scene. All the resistance ground crew and pilots in the trailer are humans.
And didn't they return in return of the jedi!?
There'll be plenty of aliens in the film.
A few from Maz Kanata's castle.

And there are alien X-Wing pilots too, such as the brilliantly named Ello Asty.
Yeah, weren't they supposed to "return" after episode 6?I can't tell if you're joking, but going from 2 Jedi to 1 in the original trilogy seems like a number that's going down to me!
Yeah, weren't they supposed to "return" after episode 6?
I think you just have to see I-III as yeah whatever, canon wink wink, sell some toys etc. in that era from Lucasarts. It really has little place or say and going into any detail is meaningless, just take the basic idea of Jedi getting wiped out, Clone Wars, Anakin going to the dark side, twins, Rise of the Empire and don't go any further. Twisting a bad story to fit with the rest does not make it right. Speculate for fun but like a lot of things there is unlikely to be that deeper thread or meaning that crossed Lucas's mind.
I don't think Leia will use a saber, the other stuff for sure. Throw that Star Destroyer! or she force throws the whole Ren squad.
Return of the one jedi!?Luke becomes a full Jedi Knight in Return of the Jedi. That's what the title refers to.
Return of the one jedi!?
Yes? What else would it refer to? Both Yoda and Obi-Wan have passed on their knowledge to Luke for him to become the future of the Jedi. Whether he managed to pass on his knowledge, or will in these films remains to be seen.
Doesn't it also refer to Anakin turning back to the good side?
My girlfriend heard I was hyped for this movie, and watched the trailer.
She was so intrigued, now she wants to watch the originals.
Guys... I'm pretty sure she doesn't know Darth Vader is Luke's father. She is from Korea, and doesn't have a nerdy bone in her body, and none of her friends do as well.
Cannot wait to play out this experiment...

It could be interpreted that way, but Anakin isn't suddenly a Jedi again because he turns on the Emperor.

Anakin redeemed himself a Jedi considering the somewhat creepy force ghost reunion at the end of ROTJ
Hey, it's the guy that helped destroy our order, desecrated our temple, killed children and then hunted down and exterminated any of us that were left, come hang out with us! And remember to show up looking like you did when you betrayed us all, that won't bring up any bad memories.

It's actually absurd. He should not have been a Force Ghost at all.

Did that to my wife last year. She was surprised, though she was more grossed out at the reminder of Leia kissing Luke than anything.
To me every Jedi can become a Force Ghost and then the prequels happened and Lucas felt the need to explain it. So just ignore the prequels and all is well in the world.![]()
Is it ever explained how Anakin had the knowledge to go force ghost since Yoda and Obi Wan had to train for it?
Yup, the Jedi go from a revered counsil in the galaxy to some mystical cult only heard of through legends in the span of a few decades. Really does not make sense at all.
Why not? And why would jedis hold grudges against Anakin? They are already one with the Force, they are all peace, love and shit.
Anakin was never about those things. Certainly at least not how he was portrayed in the movies. I'm not saying the Jedi would do it.
Frankly I just don't like Return of the Jedi.
Well, the way he was portrayed in the prequels is hardly RotJ's problem. The prequels are to blame here.
Hard to replicate that lovable bad ass scared fuzzball. He is basically that cool dog everyone loves. How you apply that to some other alien, tough.
There is definitely some aliens in the film but alongside like Chewie, have to wait and see. The thing about Chewie is, he doesn't age badly over time like CGI, so I would hope if they ever do one, isn't CGI.
Speaking of Chewie, was ripping the arms off Stormtroopers just an over the top threat or actually a Wookie thing.
One of those aliens supposedly appears in the film's poster (the short humanoid left of R2) and is said to be the female voice speaking English in the trailer. If true that rules her out as she's far too generic in my opinion. For me, a truly unique alien would preferably not speak English as well as look a little less like something we've already seen multiple times before in the series. There are at least one or two characters that have not been shown yet, that have a role in the plot and are supposed to be alien, so maybe we will still get a new iconic alien character.

Chewie is just some guy in a suit. I can't look past that.
I have no problem with actors in suits, but Chewie is so bad.
Yeah, no kidding. Lucas overpopulated the prequels with jedi. The Episode 4 stuff makes sense if you think about the universe as it should have been, with Jedi being at their peak maybe a 1000 years earlier, in Knights Of The Old Republic era. Lucas should have only had a smaller group of Jedi in the prequels. It would have made a lot of things make more sense, such as how the Empire was able to rise to power without needing stupid BS like 'order 66'. But that's of course just one of the many problems with those movies. Best thing is to just consider them fanfiction.Well, even the admirals and officers in New Hope treated hin like some joke character of a forgotten religion. The entire world building breaks apart with the prequel.
He's still more believable than any single alien you can name in the prequels..
So just ignore the prequels
just ignore the prequels
ignore the prequels
ignore the prequels
ignore the prequels
I have an interesting theory about Poe Cameron, which has probably been spotted already but I'll throw it out there.
That scene where it appears Kylo Ren is torturing him with the force, it immediately cuts to a scene of a massive explosion in a heavily forested area. I think that scene is Alderaan being destroyed by the first Death Star, and Cameron was a child who witnessed the planets destruction from afar and was scarred for life, maybe lost his entire family or something. Everyone he knew, and Ren is torturing him with that imagery in his head.
Just pure speculation drawing nothing from any leaks from me.
