Star Wars: The Force Awakens Final Trailer

Is there no internet in Star Wars?
Or TV?
Or even radio?

You'd think people would at least pay attention to the happenings in the Republic capital.

On the second two, considering a lot of this world doesn't know what's going on in america, especially in poorer countries, it's not that much of a stretch.

At first I thought this was EP3 Anakin

"I hate you!!!!"
"From my point of view the black and female Jedi are evil!"

Still waiting for someone to seamlessly combine this moment with a Game of Thrones clip to make it look like Jon Snow is coming after him.

Sure, but nothing as brutal as that scene from Star Trek.

I think seeing Anikan getting burned alive while screaming in pain at the end of Sith was brutal enough. And while it's not shown to be as graphic, beheading Dooku and seeing his head fall to the floor was up there too.

What happens if New Fans don't like it though? And that it's only Old Fans who like it with their Nostalgia Goggles?

Will Lucas be redeemed?

Because so far, it seems like they are pandering to Old Fans only and that New Fans might get lost in the shuffle.

But who are the most vocal about this? The old folks who can't get over the fact that they are old and Star Wars was always a pretty average series to begin with which is just used to sell things now...and they fall for it!
I think it'll be really interesting if that's what ends up happening. Could bring about a very enlightening dialogue between the different generations of SW fans about what the films mean to them.

To think George Lucas will be bitter is very odd. We are getting this movie BECAUSE of of what Lucas planned out prior to selling the company.

Lucas from the get-go a few years back put in place the plans to kick start the sequel trilogy and sell the company.

Just to be clear, I never meant to imply that GL would be or should be bitter if this new trilogy is better received than the PT.

I'm just fascinated by and curious to know more about the relationship between the man and his work in this case. Clearly he was hugely invested in this universe at one point in his life and clearly the strong negative reception to the prequels had an effect on him, just like the overwhelmingly positive reception of the originals had a huge effect on him. I don't expect anyone not to be personally invested in a project they dedicated over a decade of their life to.

But as a fan of GL's other films, the thing that would make me happiest would be to see him return to film making from a fresh perspective, having been able to detach himself from Star Wars. Personally I wouldn't have minded if the reception to the OT hadn't been as explosive as it was because maybe then he would have been able to move on as a film maker much sooner. If he's now at the point where he doesn't care one way or the other how these new films are receieved that would be great news in my eyes.

Sure, but nothing as brutal as that scene from Star Trek.

Whilst not exactly subtle, it was far from explicit. If that was GoT, and it has been, you'd see it in detail, and the sound effects to boot.

The whole franchise has relatively graphic dismemberment, the burnt bodies of innocent civilians and a beheading. I guess the only way they've got away with it ratings wise is lightsabers tend to sear flesh, and thus there's no blood.

There's also been a grittiness at times in Star Wars.

After my 75th re-watch of the trailer, I noticed that Kylo Ren isn't wearing his mask in that gif that's a few posts up. Meaning I think we'll see his face at some point...interested to see how that all plays out.

I've been tempering my expectations and trying not to get too hype, but it's just TOO MUCH lately...trying not to set impossible expectations.

Also, to their credit, they've kept plot details sparse which is rad. I mean, we can piece together bits (Finn leaves the First Order, crash lands on Jakku, meats Rey, yadda yadda) but it's REALLY hard to get much deeper than that.

Jesus Christ, Lucas.

Spielberg was kinda with it. Kasdan I think is the one arguing against it. As it was, Marion got aged up like 3 years as a compromise.

They were trying to make him more like Bond in those story meetings, and I think that was Lucas/Spielberg's idea of how to do it: Introduce a predatory side. They were both, however, obviously kinda feeling the idea. Which is gross.

Lots of bad ideas got coughed up in those story meetings. They didn't get USED is the good thing.

Huh.

Even suggesting that is gross as hell. I'm shaking my head so hard at this.

Why does Kylo Ren care about Vader, his mask and doing his work? Vader failed in his mission and being a Sith, he turned on his master. What is there to glorify/worship or care about?

Perhaps the filmmakers just think its a cool shot to have and it will make fanboys go crazy to see Vader's mask, but perhaps there is more to it than that.

Perhaps Luke was the master of Kylo Ren, Ren went Sith and found out what happened between his master and his father.

I dont think Ren will just be some random evil guy like Maul was, and i dont see how Luke fits in this story, if he is to be old sage wise man, he has to know something about Ren that the protagonists want, hence them visiting him at some point in the film.

The only witness to Vader turning on Palpatine was Luke, given Vader died five minutes later.

I think the trailer gets better with repeated viewings. Really glad it didn't show too much and creates more questions than answers. As a fan, and someone who is generally avoiding spoilers (other than official trailers etc...) I think it's important to savior this moment. Right now we don't know where the story is going to go, what roles people are going to play, what new music might become our favorite etc... The OT had so many iconic components it was almost a perfect storm of special achievements - a classic story of good vs evil with great artistic design translated on screen combined with award winning sound design and groundbreaking sfx with unbelievable accompanying music/soundtrack. I'm hoping these films can find a way to capture some of that magic.

Reminds me of a quote I've always liked from the movie Excalibur:

Merlin: STAND BACK! Be silent! Be still!... That's it... and look upon this moment. Savor it! Rejoice with great gladness! Great gladness! Remember it always, for you are joined by it. You are One, under the stars. Remember it well, then... this night, this great victory. So that in the years ahead, you can say, 'I was there that night, with Arthur, the King!' For it is the doom of men that they forget.

"I was a child!"

"You knew what you were doin"

lol

Yeah, that's as close as they ended up getting.

Both Raiders and Temple suggested that Indy was a real fuckin' asshole for most of his twenties, and that he was only just starting to figure it out by the time Raiders happened. But then Last Crusade sorta sitcommed all of that. Granted, they did it amazingly with that opening sequence with River Phoenix. But it's hard to reconcile the Indy that Marion's yelling at, and the Indy threatening to sock Willie in the face for being scared of bugs, with the Indy that's crawling all over that train in the boy scout uniform.

i got pedo vibes from lucas around the time when the prequels were coming out.

That's interesting.

hmm now that you mention it, that really does look like a game of thrones clip from the look of him and the winter forest.

adam driver's like 3 times the size of jon snow though haha.

I'm betting Luke tellig Kylo Ren the man he idolises turned away from everything he represents in the end will be a big part of TFA.

I'd like it better if Anakin tells him himself.

Followed by anger, denial and a screaming Kylo trying to slash Anakins ghost with his saber to shut him up.

Anakin just dissappears with a final warning. End scene.

I thought George Lucas's rejected ideas made it to the internet in very brief form?

"[Abrams] said Lucas’s treatment had centered on very young characters—teenagers, Lucasfilm told me—which might have struck Disney executives as veering too close for comfort to The Phantom Menace and its 9-year-old Anakin Skywalker and 13-year-old Queen Amidala. “We’ve made some departures” from Lucas’s ideas, Kennedy conceded, but only in “exactly the way you would in any development process."

Disney did the right thing. Instead of putting Lucas's ideas in charge, they went with a talented fresh crew of young directors.

Sounds like a disaster was averted.

The notes have never gotten out. (also, Movie Pilot is a fucking terrible website)

Kennedy's discussion of what those notes looked like is as close as we've gotten to knowing what his notes actually consisted of. But the contents of those notes hasn't been released in any form, nor has Arndt's treatment that he created from those notes.

edit: notes.

Watched Empire last night and noticed the scene where Vader first appears looking out the bridge of his Super Star Destroyer looks almost identical to the shot of Kylo Ren looking out the window in this trailer.

Looking forward to seeing what his Star Destroyer looks like.
