Correct me if I am wrong, but Super Turbo doesn't have a lot of complex systems, but has been played for nearly 2 decades. Even if this is a problem in V, Capcom is not above adding new systems and hard to learn characters to the game like Gen.

ST had lots of hidden jank and links which altered the tiers as people learned the quirks over the years. But that was before internet exploded. Now if there's any new tech, it will be on eventhubs the same week.

The simplicity is good for me tho, since I am a bonafide scrubz.

Oh for sure. It's probably going to happen within the first year of release too. Either after Evo or Capcom Cup next year.

What I mean wasn't ST was simple in the sense there was no overarching system in the game like FADC or parrys? The characters are the complex part of the game.

It has all those things, but which of them do you find hard to use? People might struggle with alpha counters depending on their background, but otherwise I don't see the complexity.

You have to learn when and how to apply them in a match-up, but people will figure that out pretty quickly and optimise it all.

Then? Then we need SSF5. And again as above I'm not saying this is a negative, it is the perfect approach from Capcom. But it is what it is and it'll get old fast.

Lot's of things are easy to do when fighting against a training dummy. However, it gets a little more difficult when you are fighting an opponent that is capable of thinking and adjusting. That is the beauty of a fighting game.

Tight links don't actually add anything substantial to the experience, they are just an arbitrary barricade. The majority of the tech in SFIV is actually pretty easy to use, it just heavily advantages people who know it, while crippling people who don't.

As an example...

Plinking isn't hard, but its existence means that those who haven't been told about it are more likely to drop their combos. Option selects are super easy to do and, once again, the only purpose they serve is to give an advantage to the guy that knows they exist. None of the this stuff makes the game better, all of it just makes it less accessible. A fighting game being honest is NOT a bad thing.

They're there, it's just more restrictive now. For Ryu I use to do cr. LK, cr. LP, cr. LP DP. But that doesn't work anymore so now I'm doing cr. LK, st. LP, st. LK, MK tatsu. But that's only if I'm point blank. Otherwise I only mash lights to push away.

I don't have problems with anything in either game. The difficulty of both SFIV and SFV comes in knowing when to do what. They are, at their core, psychological exercises. I don't think SFV being easier on the execution ruins that.

Opponents aren't as easy to figure out as you make them to be. No one is going to figure out optimal play because no such thing exists in a balanced fighting game. Rather, there is a set of options, and you have to decide what is best on the fly. It isn't static.

Can you confirm off one light attack? Just wondering because I can't. The other combo I keep doing is st. MP, st. LK, HP SRK/MK tatsu(depends on range). St. MP gives you more time to confirm since it has more active frames and hit stop.

Combos are not the objective of the game. If they are easy to do that doesn't mean everyone is a game master now. As for wanting to see the pros do hard combos, eh. Seeing people do the same combos over and over is not that interesting, regardless of how hard is to do them.

Light hit confirms into high damaging combos are the opposite of complex gameplay, if anything.

You can hit MP + MK right after doing the heavy or EX version of tornado fireball and he can leverage the power of that tornado to move further across the screen.

Homie has a ton of tools, love him.

Removing something like that baffles me. It might not be permanent, but with all Ken can juggle...you're gonna take something that simple from Ryu? He's already simpler compared to beta 1. Jeeeeeeeez

I had four characters I wanted to get a feel for prior to release: Mika, Nash, Karin and Ken. I'm pretty confident I understand how the former two play now, so I just need to figure out which of Karin and Ken I'm going to devote the rest of my time to. At least I won't have to worry about being a member of the Ken army now since he seems to have been supplanted by Ryu.
