The Final Bosman Show

This was one of the best episodes EVER.

Meaningful and mind-blowing (that patch part, really), and a bonus bit for the ages.

11/10

Nintendo is just keeping the tradition of the Deluxe Set.

Which is kind of quaint in that Nintendo sort of way.

But yeah, their console really isn't priced at a good value when compared to the black Friday bundles of the PS4 and Xbox One. I agree with Kyle the manufacturing costs of the Wii-U pad that is preventing Nintendo from selling the console at a cheaper price point and it will really killed the "impulse buy" aspect of the system with consumers. Microsoft made the same mistake with Kinect, but unlike Kinect, Nintendo can't remove it from their console as it is an actual integral part of the system.

Also it's possible either MS or Sony (or both) could have a slim model coming next year that allows them to cut the price even further or bundle more games for the same price if they wanted to. Kyle makes a good point that the online subscriptions make the pricecuts much easier considering a huge amount of those new customers will be subscribing to them. What indeed is Nintendo gonna do? They are coming in at a very bad time into the generation compared to Wii U that came out at a perfect time for an early start.

The system could (and in my opinion should) be fully usable with just the Pro Controller or the Wiimote. Most of the system already is just not the system settings and the keyboard in the webbrowser and some games (it's completely backwards how I can input codes in MK8 with my Pro Controller and not Mario Maker when trying to search). But I do agree that they can't do away with it for compatibility reasons. So many games require the Gamepad to either be used or just be near the system and patching all games would be an impossible task.

this is topic discussed to death, but I'll just say that without the gamepad, the Wii U becomes just a PS3 with more or less power, that isn't the console Idea, and while you could put codes in MK8 with a Pro controller, MK8 doesn't requite you to mandatory use the gamepad, Mario Maker does and there is no logic in allowing a person to use another controller besides the gamepad, which is already with the system.

Kinect is very optional for Xbone, and yeah, they have been throwing it away even more, but Nintendo still keeps the gamepad and since it has a lot of thing inside it, there it is the elevated costs of it.

with all these rumors of NX taking over the home and handheld console business of Nintendo, I suspect we will never see a Wii U price cut before the its discontinuity

Another problem is, if Nintendo sold the Wii-U without the gamepad, they would have to sell the gamepad as a completely separate accessory. Which is something that I don't think they really want to do even though they claimed they would have originally. The gamepad would easily be a $100+ accessory if they did so.

Please, after mario maker the whole discussion whether or not gamepad is needed (or worth the cost) is obsolete... If you disagree you are wrong.. ;)

More on topic...

Decent episode, Bosman is having a good run.. I like it when he talks about the "current" events of gaming, and I think he could do it more often.

For some reason, I feel that there has been a longer period of experimenting topics and ways of doing the show, but now it feels like he is somehow returning to the roots of the show.. Which I enjoy quite alot, it's really nice to hear his thoughts on the matters of gaming industry even if the topics or the thoughts are not necesseraly always "ground-breaking"..

Bosman has a nice way of arguing and entertaining way of sharing his views to us.. And also his perspective on things is often interesting enough on it's own.

So I find it nice that he finds the more "regular" stuff inspiring enough to do episodes on :)
(Not that I'm against at all to the more over the top stuff he has to offer, it's just nice to have the best of both worlds)

I think Bosman's right with the NX being screwed unless it's considerably cheaper than the inevitable $300 bundles, but that puts Nintendo in a tough situation any way you look at it ;\

bundle it with like 5 amiibos. probably costs them ~$10 more and the customer sees it as a $60 value.
Microsoft had the balls to drop the Kinect, Nintendo should have dropped the gamepad a while ago.
hell, bundled it with Mario Maker, sold the game at $150 retail with the gamepad and the classic mario amiibo.

Key word in my post, useable without the Gamepad, I never said that the system should drop it and I know why they can't drop it. But it's just ridiculous that stuff like the webbrowser and system settings are locked behind the Gamepad. As someone who had a problem for a short while with the Gamepad not willing to stay connected after an update, let me tell you that not being able to go into the settings to update the Gamepad separately from the main console is absolutely ridiculous because I needed the Gamepad which would disconnect while trying to boot the settings...

But about the video. I do agree with Bosman on the NX and it's in a really awkward position. They can't release a PS4 like system and ask more (again), but they can't go all out in power because that's just not what's in the pipeline for now. I'm really curious how this will go. If it even turns out a console and not the successor to the 3DS.

Most people who sing the praises of the GamePad really just want a Nintendo Vita, with a little more power behind it, and some way to sometimes show on the TV/do multiplayer. All I hear about is "Off TV Play" and "It's got a touch screen!" And I'm thinking "It's tethered to the console and the default battery life is awful."

Kyle's excitement is exactly how I felt before the 3DS and Wii U.

However, I eventually ended up selling both to friends because I rarely used them, as the various titles peaking my excitement were either canceled, delayed, or ended up falling well short of expectations. This was Nintendo coming off an unreal cash infusion, with which they could–and should–have ensured a generation free of logistical issues. Maybe they became complacent?

In any case, I will be very reserved when considering NX. There is very little reason to believe that Nintendo can produce a platform as compelling as those which already have so many amazing indie and AAA titles. Of course, I want to see it happen!

I kinda want to share Kyle's enthusiasm, i haven't owned a N console in years and would love to be pushed to own a new one, but really:
-more powerful than other current-gen console
-both home and portable console
-good software right off the bat

Almost sounds like fan-fiction.
I mean, this thing will most definitely cost 399 or something similar, launch in an insanely good year for the competition, how will it be able to compete?

Plus, i fear N old habits like no/irrelevant 3rd party support, amazing 1st party titles with immense gaps of nothing (or as Kyle would say, BLACK MATTER) between each one of those, awful OS and network structure, and support dropped early if the console isn't succesfull.

I don't know, i guess i'll have to wait to see what this console will actually be, and how it can fit in the modern landscape.

i guess i just really want that New Zelda

I hadn't even heard about this news. That is an insane amount of money, but the way he explained it makes sense. I also loved that game at the end. Hope he does more of those, but not at the expense of the lore obviously.

Click bait! Boo!
Hadn't thought about the deal like Bosman. Then again, I hadn't thought about it at all.

after the intervention of Nirolak in the rant thread of a random page about this same acquisition, I'm now leaning towards the belief that it was quite a smart decision because of expanding business, it is clear these companies are not going to abandon anything, just grow on how they do business, this acquisition was pretty smart to grow.

even if we find unbelievable that a company of "match X color games" is worth 5.9 billions, that's how business runs now, in past, a value of a company like nintendo was way too high for being "just little videogames" for people, but now they have respect for them.

who knows if the same will happen to a mobile games company

Kyle using that inferior GAF theme.

hey! I'm always using that theme :C

hahaha damn that Bonus bit. Brandon was loosing it by the end.

Anyway, good episode. I guess if you look at it the way Kyle explained it it makes sense.
But damn, it's still crazy that a company that makes boring mobile games (I mean come on, 90% of those aren't even their ideas) was sold for more than freaking Star Wars

Great episode.I like how Kyle kept getting annoyed about how they weren't following the normal rules of mini golf on a course with dinosaurs and lava.
