The Frame Rate of Fallout 4 in Interiors is horrible [PS4]

I'm not going to crap all over the developer for bringing out one of the most complex games to date and it has bugs at launch. You can patch these types of games for 2 years straight and there will still be bugs. And I am not going to moan about the framerate either. Games of this scope are hard to pull off and they managed to do it with a team not much larger than the Fallout 3 team. If anything, I want to buy one of the developers a pizza and say thank you.

It shows.

There seems to be little "Middle Ground" here, when there should be.

Personally, even on the PS4 I find the graphics OK, but not hitting a solid 30 to be a bit much to stomach. This game is not exactly pushing boundaries. It's difficult to accept that the "open world" and freedom the game gives is ample reason to be unable to make a solid 30 given the other parameters.

Developers are forced to work within constraints of time and money, and I tend to cut some slack depending on the scope and other factors. That only goes so far.

I will be curious to see how a similarly specced PC, with settings made to match the PS4 graphic fidelity will run the game. In such a case it should not run as well considering the overhead, and factors that go into PC Gaming's one to many approach versus the one to one approach of a console.

I can only speculate as to the source of the issue and in all likelihood we will never really know. If I was forced to make a guess, I would say the engine likely has issues running on the Xbone and PS4, perhaps due to expecting a better CPU (when the engine was modded or designed) or some other reason.

I wish Bethseda luck. I count myself lucky that I still have a gaming PC that should handle this at a locked 30 fps even though it's getting up there in age. To those not as lucky, I hope they are able to address single digit frame drops within a reasonable timeframe for console owners. As previously stated it should be possible, but as games continue to expand in scope and fidelity the number of variables can only be offset so much by better development tools and practices.

Not good, but I was expecting worse.

I have experienced similar things in so many other great games. I guess the question is how common things like this will be in Fallout 4?

that feel when the hat guy equips his notepad like a shield because they copy-pasted animations from skyrim

pixar-level of animation skill here guys

I'm fucking dying here at that end pose. It's like a door to door salesman who got 100th "no" for an answer and just decided to end himself right after that. And that notepad shield hold, he has already decided life is not worth living on anymore. Why not copy an old animation.

This is only the tip of the iceberg, I have a feeling I'll be bumping that post regularly. :)

I've got a feeling that (assuming this game isn't actually the most broken game of 2015, lol) you'll be bumping that post at even the most tenuous sign of validation. Your first attempt at it gives me no reason to think otherwise.

Which trailer was that from ? The only time I remember seeing hat guy was in that E3 reveal by Todd, but in that one he slams the door in his face before he finishes his sentence so you don't see that animation

Holy crap I got Doom-like motion sickness just watching that OP vid

Me too, but i think it's because hes moving the cam wildely to show up the framedrops. I saw plenty of streams where the guys dont move the camera so wildely without getting motion sick, and in just 1 minute of footage of the OP i got it cuz my eyes could not focus on nothing :P

I'm now in the same building as OP and can confirm: framerate sucks in there probably due to the many light sources. I'm on Xbox One. Can't post videos as Microsoft doesn't allow to share clips before the official release date.

The game is not even out yet and we're getting reports of bad framerates, invisible guns, shield clipboards, etc. Where there's smoke... Also, please don't try to push back the goal posts with this imaginary "the most broken game of 2015" quote.

But hey, I hope you're right!

How about frame drops when scoping? That was more concerning to me.

Ah ok it most likely certain areas then.

You realize people have the game already, right?

Dude if all these frame rate issues / glitches are legit its time to spend some damn money Bethesda and build a new damn engine or license UE4. I dont care how many times they've "rebuilt" and "optimized" the engine. Its still the same jank, game after game. The animations alone are still god awful.

Dont get me wrong I'm excited as hell to play still but god I'm so tired of this engine

who is moaning? are these not valid concerns?

you can't say they pulled it off when there is such a huge detriment to the gaming experience present

These guys try to make the same game over and over and even with the same freaking engine and the same problems appear every damn time.

And even still people are throwing money at them hand over fist and yet still asking why it keeps happening.

This would be easier to understand for me if I thought there was some redeeming factor to Bethesda RPGs but I am not the type of person that believes that.

Just saw the vids in the OP, jesus christ.

That's pretty bad. I still don't even feel confident about switching to PC.

Doesn't the xbox version have full pc mod support? Im pretty sure it does.

"full" support is stretching it. I expect it to be very simple things like weapons. Even new environments would be a stretch because some of those can be game breaking and led to constant crashing. They're going to have to be very careful in what is allowed to be carried over.

They've been very vague and sparse with what they've actually said about this topic so I would go in with low expectations.

I got really distracted by the movement of the camera, but that dogs movement at the end of the video looks bad. Like 15fps or something.

Yup, agreed with all of this. They really seem like they need start from scratch for the next one. It just seems like the series is being held back by the archaic engine.

No. It has support for Bethesda approved PC mods. Which will greatly limit which ones you get. Also, the PS4 is supposed to get mods as well, just later. Neither one will have nearly the amount of mods available on PC, simply because bethesda probably won't greenlight mods that negatively impact performance on the consoles.

Yeah, I'll be surprised if mod support on consoles is anything more than a curated selection. I doubt players will be able to install whatever they like willy-nilly. The potential for trouble (notably reduced performance, general instability, and so on) would be too high.

They've already greenlighted shelter that negatively impacts performance on consoles.

Though I suppose it could be worse, yes.

This is sarcasm.

Holy fuck at those animations. This game really looks like a 2009-era game with a coat of paint to hide the jank. Easy to forgive back then but I fear any dated feeling is gonna sink this one for me. I hope it at least grabs me for a while!
