Fallout 4 - Reviews thread

uhhmm... the game still struggles with a growing savefile (according to Eurogamer) like Fallout 3 on PS3?

what the fuck Bethesda..? what the FUCK?

that shit completely ruined Fallout 3 for me in 2008. it was literally unplayable after my save got over 10mb or so, it would crash and hang ALL THE TIME. trying to play the DLC was the saddest gaming experience ever, i had literally hundreds of crashes and hang ups, and i could make myself dinner during a VATS sequence because it moved at about 1 frame per minute.

absolutely laughable if in 2015 they still release broken games like that. they should be ashamed.

Ya despite fo3 being my favorite ps3 game I could not even finish most dlc due to this so if they actually wanted me to buy any this time it better be fixed

I think anyone who describes a game company as "lazy" should be banned from video games for like 30 days, with punishments increasing exponentially after that.

.

The number of people who end up damaged from over work at many of those companies agree.

This game will likely triple Uncharted 2 sales

89 metacritic.

Has anyone compared Bethesda to Hitler yet?

HITLER IS MENTIONED

I agree. Having said that, what I would like to know is what Bethesda was working their ass off for years on because it is not apparent to me looking at snippets of the finished product.

From what I've read Bethesda basically focused on bringing what people liked about Skyrim to Fallout and continues to veer from the series' more corrosive, be-anyone-you-want roots.
Which is fine, it's what I expected and I enjoyed Skyrim.
Still, here's hoping they allow another studio to do a more narrative-focused non-numbered entry in the franchise, I'd still rather play a really well written RPG with average gameplay than the opposite.

But one time I saw this gif where numbers in one box were consistent and pretty high, but the numbers in the other box got really low!

They were probably working on a game that is receiving very favorable reviews from almost everyone who has played it.

I think the EG review stated that he's come to expect issues with a ballooning save file, not that he was experiencing it at the time.

Enjoy your 10 GB next gen save files filling up your PS+ cloud.

Yeah. Maybe they're really bad at porting for consoles, but their games are awesome, and certainly the ones who gives the better sense of freedom and makes a good use of the open world.

Sad thing is a lot of us are die hard Fallout and or Bethesda fans. This is a good and bad thing.

Good... Bethesda has loyal bloodthirsty fans

Bad... Bethesda oftens ships broken half baked shit they call games and we eat them up.

Disclosure: I pre-ordered the game, and I will like it with all its dirty little flaws. But come on Bethesda. Its 2015 you are rolling in more money then an epic shit ton of other studios. Get some QA and care control going before you ship your games.

It's not a cop-out statement when there are people who are basically saying or keep repeating that Bioware makes shit now and that the golden age of Baldur's Gate is gone, they're no longer rpgs, etc...

Criticizing the game for its flaws is fine, and I encourage it. But if you're willfully ignoring the decently sized group of folks for both groups with either outright hate or devotion who can't seem to let go of a golden age for the developer then you are deluding yourself. There are people here whose sole purpose is to mock and/or laugh at the game/developer not getting 10/10s.

But those very people who are just criticizing the game for its flaws get lumped in with the crazies, and everyone is just dismissed as "haters" or salty.

Every. Single. Fucking. Time.

If you're willfully ignoring the decently sized group of people willing to come in here and driveby shitpost "U salty bro" the moment someone "dares" to complain about anything, constructive or not, you're deluding yourself. There are people whose sole purpose is to mock and/or laugh at anyone who thinks there's a problem with the game or why it should bother them.

What if I replace "Game company" with "game company executive" and replace "lazy" with "Greedy". I mean at the end of the day I'm implying the same general point as saying "game company is lazy" but just approaching it from a different angle.

I can only speak for myself so, for me, it's just a general sick and tiredness of the Bethesda formula. The glitchy and technical messes that are filled to the brim with content and atmosphere. It works for a lot of people but I don't feel like it works for me anymore.

The review scores are good but the text is telling me that very little has changed. I'm not dropping 60 bucks on these games anymore.

Holy shit

That's cool! Not everyone has to want to buy the gamegame, or like it after they have played it. But people in here are declaring the quality of a game they haven't played and claiming Jim is lying about what HE experienced. Or then bringing up the lazy dev thing. That's when it just gets ridiculous.

Bethesda has a habit of fucking over studios, backing them into financial trouble, then trying to buy them at bargain prices.

If you are working with an older, previously-established engine, you would think you would have more content to show for it, like a lot more. Does it have more content than Witcher 3, which looks gorgeous and is full of content and took quite a while to develop? This reminds me of Bioshock Infinite another game that took ages to develop with little to show for it.

I'm sure you'll enjoy FO4, but we should stop giving Bethesda a free pass when it comes to technical issues and bugs

Basically this

I agree, I didn't mean it that way. I hate that their games always have technical issues. I actually bought Skyrim on 360 specifically because of the issues the PS3 version had.

But... they're gonna keep getting away with it. Heh.

I honestly feel this game was supposed to be cross gen and they decided against it later on.

This is about what I expected.

It's sitting on the edge between 89 and 90, which is slightly lower than the previous Bethesda games, but we've went through large amounts score depreciation since 2011. It will still easily be one of the best reviewed games on the year.

I cant wait until I have actually played the game for myself for 30 or so hours so that I can make an informed opinion about these reviews.

So you're not really calling them lazy, only close to it?

Read the reviews if you want to know what they've been working on. The Rock, Paper, Shotgun review of it is a pretty good one to start with, to get a balanced view.

There's zero motivation for Bethesda to improve.

They will continue streamlining and dumbing down to widen the demographic.
No reason to fix their technical issues or invest in a new engine as gamers and reviewers will continually give them a pass.

Their margins have to be among the best in the industry. It's easy to pile criticism after criticism on their design and engine, but it's fucking genious really.

As a software developer, I understand what it is like to hit snags in design and development and end up with a piece of shit finished product. It happens sometimes not for lack of trying. I think Bioshock Infinite is a perfect example. It destroyed that studio.

I said I know there's people with blind devotion to these games, but fine. I can see where the 'defense force' comes from though. Similar with Destiny and any other game that has a big portion of people who dislike it, either those with valid critiques or those just being pricks. People enjoy the game series or developer, which tend to be popular and decently critically acclaimed titles, only to come to constant negativity. Because it does sour the opinion and enjoyment for many.

It doesn't mean they should just plug their ears over proper complaints, but I can't blame them for not wanting to deal with it and seeking a sanctuary of sorts elsewhere. Whether it's the OT once the game goes to community, or asking mods to leave graphical complaints to its own thread.

His punishment should be to make a game within six months, for us to scrutinize and if it is not up to par he will be known as the laziest in the land.

Yep, it's pretty sad.

I'm very disappointed with these reviews. I was hoping that they would be much lower to teach lazy Bethesda a lesson. Maybe then they would stop using a 30 year old engine.

Cool beans dude. Surely you're right. I'm certain you could have made a much better game, given your vast experience in the medium.
