The game looks pretty and actually interesting, but I can't stand main character design, the "current days" setup it has constrasts too much with everything else, like there's a design disonance I can't stand

"Where are all the unique ideas?!"

"Screw this game. DEI trash"

Can't make this shit up...
Don’t worry; at the end of the day, this is a business and no matter what kind of “unique” ideas a game has, it still has to make money. If Tango with The Evil Within, Ghostwire, and the breakout hit Hi-Fi Rush was shut down, then there’s absolutely no reason why a subpar studio like Compulsion can justify its existence anymore.

Compulsion very well could be shut down, but lets all be thankful corporations aren't as shallow minded as posts like this.

Nah. A mid game is a 7. Performance is okay, no crashes, but nothing spectacular gameplay or story-wise.

A 5 would be a game that barely works in the first place, frequent bugs, performance issues and has meh/terrible gameplay/story.

This is a warrior mentality of thinking. A 7 is a good game. Rise of the Ronin with its 7.-whatever score, good game.

Redfall is a game that technically worked perfectly fine for me but it was god awful. The 56 rating it has is too high.

What you describe as a 7 is more like a 5 or 6.

I don't think it is a "standard", thankfully. It is just a narrative born out of console wars. In any other rating system, folks would look at a 7/10 as pretty good. But in gaming some act like a game fell off a cliff if its drops below an 8.
I don’t blame critics entirely. If I remember correctly Gamespot got harassed for giving LOZ Twilight Princess an 8.8. How dare they gave a Zelda game below 9.

Movies, music etc don’t have platform fanboys who want their platform exclusives to all score above 90 regardless of everything else.

This has skewed rating system heavily. I pretty safety skip 90+ games. It shouldn’t be the case. 90+ games should be essential play.

Seems this is a short game. I wasn't going to play it, but since it can be beat in about 10hours, maybe I will give it a shot. I'm guessing it will be a 6/10 for me based on the gameplay. I doubt the setting, characters and story will appeal to my taste.

How ?

And noboby answered to me on this: the Switch ports of games get lower MC scored than their PS4/5 counterparts.

Or how come The Last of us Part 1 as an awful score on PC (59/100) despite the game being recognized as one of the best games ever ?

How is that possible if technical aspects aren't taken into consideration ?

Was there really a big shift on Death Stranding when it came to Xbox? Especially here, maybe a couple came around on it but I think most still rightfully see it as a piece of shit.

Death stranding is amazing, imo.

But, it was never about what platform it was on for me. I ended up playing most of it on pc.

For me personally it was just dedicating that first 10 hours that gets you hooked.

I mean I bought the ps4 pro death stranding limited edition console because I was such a huge kojima fan. I played the vanilla game for like 3 to 5 hours and was incorrect in thinking the game was shite for my tastes. Boring etc.

Once directors cut came out I just never played it again. When it stealth dropped on pc and xbox through play anywhere I wanted to support it. Gave it a good weekend of play while on medical cannabis and I was completely engrossed.

Had nothing to do with the box it was on, just that the directors cut after like 10 hours is great imo.

But everyone's tastes are different.

I'm just going to give this game a good go and see if it grabs me.

After ass creed shadows I've realised the majority of people in the gaming community are pretty pathetic with 0 understanding of a product. They are just on a hate train.

That is the point. I mean you wouldn’t criticize Wizard of Oz or Alice in Wonderland because Dorothy and Alice contrasts too much with everything else, right?

The game is about a teenager witnessing mistakes made by older generations.

Oh... Now I have even less interest lol but yeah, kinda get what you say, it's just it makes some uncanny noise when I see it

Games like TLOU and Switch ports have already been seen elsewhere and so when the game is ported and looks like shit, pretty hard for the reviewer to ignore that. Games can be docked for being a technical mess (although typically only in extreme situations), but that doesn't mean games that are technically sound will have points added.

MK1 is a day one version (for eg), not the only example.

And its technical shortcomings definitly impacted its score.

Same as for eg deadly premonition 2, a Switch exclusive but terrible performance.

Which goes along with what I said.

Which goes along with waht I said, aka I didn't say you have automatically 5 points added if the game is good technically.

But I discuessed this with you, no issue for me if you don't agree. I was mostly answering to the "but the math isn't mathing" and "this is warrior mentality" (which I don't really understand how)

That's fair. I think the "warrior" comment is made in general and not specific to you. You don't come across as the warrior type to me. The math says 5 is mid. Not really a way to get around that.

Redfall was quite widely condemned as a technical mess with bugs galore, which is how it was able to (just) dip below the 60 metacritic floor for non-broken high profile games.

The game being sufficiently technically broken is the only thing which most reviewers feel gives them cover to give a high profile game an actually bad review score, rather than the classic 7 which for a high profile game is intended to communicate 'it's meh' to the reader while still being nominally defendable as 'a good score, honest, please don't punish us' to the publisher. The reader, reviewer and publisher all know that it is in fact not a good score for a high profile game, but it's where the compromise has been reached for what the publisher will allow.

I don't think anyone expected this game to do outstanding numbers, at least I'd hope not, lmao. The game always gave me AA energy, I thought it was pretty weird when MS took time to talk about it like it was something bigger. Just another one of those, "People that are interested in it will play it and likely enjoy it to some degree, while those that aren't won't." and that's really it.

Sure, it's a AA game. It doesn't change the facts that the budget is probably between 30-50mil. Even a AA game like SOM has metrics of success. All indications point to this game being a massive bomb. Someone has to answer for that. Hopefully the studio survives
