It's optional, so don't worry.

Good to hear!

Not sure what is going on there with VSync, doesn't sound good (did you try using driver VSync instead of in-game?), but the unlocked FPS thing sounds a lot like iFPSClamp not being 0 in older Gamebryo stuff. People used to mess with that setting but it wasn't all that safe for that very reason.

Somehow I didn't even think of that! Yeah, I think I'll try it right now

e: no wait, I'm playing in borderless window, it's not gonna do anything.

Hopefully someone comes up with a fix in the coming days. For now, I'll stick with the unlocked, likely more bug-prone game.

Stumbled upon this place. It's like a level from GoldenEye 007.

I know it's still ridiculously early, but what are some immediate differences between 3 and 4 that some of you have noticed (for better or worse)?

Really, REALLY crappy dialogue options even in comparison to 3. Gun shoots better. Can't randomly pick stuff(like bodies and other objects) and move them around. The character creator is MILES better. Leveling up is simplified to one choice between a perk or a stat. Oh, and we finally have rain.

That's my thoughts so far, early yet.

Thank you, but the link in the linked post goes to a dead page. I'll scour the bethesda forums to see if i can find it.

Hmm, looks like they took it down. Basically it said opt into the beta in the FO4 menu in Steam (not the Steam beta branch) and then wait for a download. Its only a Win10 fix apparently so don't do it unless you're on 10.

Shooting is infinitely better. I actually like it a lot more than I was expecting to.

Dialogue system is infinitely worse. I actually HATE it a lot more than I was expecting to.

I've never played a Fallout game before, this will be my first one. I'm pretty excited after everything I have seen so far. Can't wait for midnight!

Wait, really?

Wait, really?

They got rid of it(R3 to pick stuff up) in favor of a gun bash(R1) and moving around the controls(Sneak is now R3, Sprint L3). You can still put stuff into your inventory like usual though, and they're still physics objects. You just can't directly manipulate them.

Shooting is much improved but the enemies there are also so much quicker enemies, making ADS difficult at times. Conversation system is definitely streamlined, I liked it better in 3 and NV better. Weapon and armor mod system is crazy deep, kinda overwhelming. Also junk in the world now is useful, each piece of junk can be categorized by what type of base material its made of and can be used to craft.

So say you need Adhesive for crafting a scope, duct tape, wonderglue, etc. is all considered adhesives so when you go to craft, the game will automatically convert that junk into the base material you need to craft. This makes hoarding materials much more important (and is one of the reasons while I used console commands to give me 5000 carry weight haha).

In crafting, it seems like weapon mods can be shared across gun types. Like I have a standard pipe pistol, a starter weapon that kinda sucks. But it can be modified in ways that it can become a bolt action rifle, sniper rifle, auto rifle, single shot rifle, etc. This is all based upon the mods you equip on it (stock, barrel, magazine, etc.). It's pretty neat but yeah the game doesn't do a good job explaining the system.

That's my impressions so far after playing about 5 hours. I started off on Very Hard difficulty but was struggling with my poor dps and low hp and decided to go down to normal for a while like Biggs suggested until I find a few better guns then will ratchet it back up to hopefully find more legendary enemies.

You can drag stuff, have to click and hold to drag

OK, Funstock Digital is just fucking with me now.

I made the mistake of pre-ordering from them. Their site has been down all day. I e-mailed them asking them to e-mail me my game key, 6 hours later I get this reply:

"Customer Support replied:
Hi

FunStockDigital is now back online.

Please check your account, we have added a serial key into your order history.

Thank you
Customer Support
Kind regards, Customer Support
"

Cool, except the site is still down. No preload for me. No repeat business for Funstock.

So youre telling me I cant pick up a severed head and place it in a bowl on someones desk?

Only thing I really miss is a wait button. Having to find a chair is a bit of a hassle. Hope there's a portable chair or something you can carry around. Switching to third person being on the back button is fucking with me, too, I'm used to it being on the right stick.

No to which question?!

The last one. :p

Been using a controller, maybe that'd translate to holding A?

Yeah, hold down A (or X on PS) and you can carry things. Game tells you when some things are too heavy to carry, too.

I'm only halfway through GB quicklook but DAMN am I excited.

I don't need or expect FO games to have great framerates or on-point scripting.
What I need is a world building an lots of great, dumb shit and I have seen it : )

The shooting looks much better and what I had hoped for. I and going to go fucking crazy on this game tomorrow .

I played Fallout New Vegas for a little over 5 hours and it was too broken to play for me, but I lost my life to Skyrim. In terms of difficulty, what should I play at? I hear it's much harder than usual BethRPGs, I am looking for a challenge. What level should I play at?

Just keep it at Normal and you'll be fine.

Thought I would post two clips from my playthrough so far in case anybody wants to see some early gameplay!

Some brief character creation gameplay (WARNING: THIS VIDEO DOES COVER THE FULL INTRO PAST THE CHARACTER CREATION) : https://youtu.be/7KTuFXGo-Oo

Power Suit Gameplay (approximately 15 minutes into the video): https://youtu.be/e-OxlEMvOv0

Not really any spoilerific gameplay, but if you don't want to see anything of the game obviously do not go through the whole video!

So, I figured there were going to be raider hairstyles later on you can get in the game post character creation -- is there just a GTA-esque hairdresser you can go to and change hairstyles, or a system like this?

Small side quest - I have to build mama Murphy a chair. Does she want a specific one? I built several chairs but the quest won't complete

Never mind. I'm blind.

That first boss fight
was so stupid, had to drop the difficulty to normal since you're only level 2, no advance skills, and he's such a bullet sponge on the harder difficulties, it was not fun dying about 20 times.

Survival. You get tons of ammo, plenty of stimpacks lying around, and the enemies are tough but not infuriatingly so. I kinda wish there was a higher difficulty from what I've played so far.

are you guys gonna play on hard? I'm definitely not playing on normal, hopefully this time the enemies aren't massive bullet sponges in hard like in Fallout 3.

I did the same thing lol

I suggest starting on Normal for the first couple hours and then bounce up to Hard or higher once you've gotten yourself going. It's so slanted against you early on that it just isn't fun.

Well f*ck this game. I cant do the Diamond City mission because everyone keeps attacking me there, I cant load an old save point as the game autosaved moments before I started getting attacked. Looks like there is no solution and Im done with this game :(

I'm so early on that I can't comment on much, but the combat is definitely better. And the overall presentation. Better voice acting, better music, some awesome weather effects, etc.

Damn i'm not much of a nap taker but I'm thinking about going to sleep until midnight once I get home from classes.

Same here man but I am going to rip the biggest blunt to my face and just go into a coma until 11:30 rofl

I still cant believe I just played Fallout 4

Soooooooon.

Hard isnt that hard. You can go for it!

Thanks for reminding me, starting off on Hard right off the bat!
