This game really *really* wants you to play it with a controller doesn't it?

It's absolutely amazing on the Elite controller. Jumping between this and Halo and being able to switch between two controller layouts on the fly at the flip of a switch is wonderful.

Actually I almost didn't need to change anything between the two but jump is now Y on Fallout instead of A on halo. However because I can map everything to Basically the same places I won't suffer any controller "Jet Lag" if you will from playing too much Fallout (or any shooter for that matter) and then going back to competitive Halo.

if you try to leave the neighbourhood or walk past the army vehicles the nuke immediately detonates.

hahaha

I see they still haven't changed the walking speed of people you are following. so you still have to rush up to them, fall back, rush up, fall back....

So, does anyone else have an issue with the "When Freedom Calls", where you can't get past the "Kill all enemies" requirement? I have searched high and low and can not find anything enemies still alive inside or outside of the Museum, killed all the grunts, Death Claw, and guy with name.

Is there some enemy that is easy to overlook?

Got about 7 hours in. Mechanically it's better than both Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Guns shoot better, the enemies actually react sensibly to you, there are enemies that actually move pretty damned quickly, stimpaks can't be abused easily, and vats isn't a magic bullet anymore(if you don't have the right perks/stats anyway). The settlement stuff is interesting, plus the character creator is actually pretty good.

That being said, the role-playing elements are much worse than even Fallout 3. When you're given dialogue options(4 dialogue options), they're one to three words, and your character normally gives 1-4 sentences for each choice. So you have absolutely no way of knowing what the hell your character is going to say based on the options presented. As for leveling up, you get 1 choice per level on whether to take a perk or increase a stat, and leveling up has no other effect.

Overall, I'm liking the game despite the flaws.

Thanks steel. Sounds good gameplaywise, looks like bethesda stepped up in that matter. A little worried about dialog options, but maybe it makes more sense later on in the game?

so once i find a mag, does it work instantly? like i try and read it from the pipboy but nothing happens and it stays in my inventory. can i discard of them?

Game makes a far better impression in its opening hours than the other fallout games, there's no doubt about that.

It's 10 am, been awake for almost 24 hours by now and after ~16 hours playtime, I'm ending my first play session today. I wonder where the time went. lol I guess I spent more than half of that building my settlement. lol Currently just shy of level 13. Got an incredible OP laser rifle from a quest and been owning with it ever since. Even cleared a house full of super mutants including a legendary (tho, along with all of my grenades and mines). On Survival, I encounter those quite frequently. It's definitely Fallout, but something feels slightly off and I quite can't put my finger on what. Overall, it's awesome so far.

Check your questlog, maybe it was marked solved without you noticing it. That is what happened to me. I also searched the perimeter for an hour or so before noticing that it was actually solved in the initial battle. >_>

Really? A
Deathclaw
fight in the very first big firefight? This is fucked. How am I supposed to kill this thing when even the
minigun
barely scratches him?

Workshop control on pc is extremely clunky. I feel like the AI is extremely off in this game. Enemies and friendly people just end up staring at the wall a lot of the time, hell people idle looking at the wall, and even start talking to you staring at the wall. It's extremely off putting. Not sure how this game got 9's. Game feels very unpolished.

Also, had invisible pip boy bug. Straight up blank screen.

I thought the opening was really weak, even compared to FO3's baby stuff or NV's sudden shot-in-head-mofo now go do something openings

They've been exposed to radiation for 200 years, of course they'd be a bit... Slow

I ran around so the enemy would get blocked by cars and obstacles for a few seconds and abused VATs and healing items. I got it. Barely.

The
minigun
does 8 dmg / shot, so that's a huge reason why it does so little damage against such a high armored enemy.

Lemme guess, the shitty radio host is replaced at some point with a triple canine fellow with a better knack for radio... >_>

(Don't tell me, just a guess after hearing him for 12 whole seconds.)

yoooooooooooooooooooooo

what the FUCK at those
Mirelurks
? cant kill them no matter how much I reload, they basically 2 shot me lol

Its not. Looking around, its seems to be a legit bug. https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/comments/3s4zoo/bugs_megathread/cwublly

Maybe by the time I'm home from work a patch will be out, or someone can give me a console command to fix it.

Aim for their face. Their carapaces are very resilient. I was able to take them out quick with a shotgun by aiming for their faces. VATS helps a lot.

When do you select difficulty level?

I only managed 45mins before work, and just left the vault, but didn't see any difficulty selection?!

Quick Question:

All the crap I collect - How can I break it down so I get the "scraps"/"parts"?
I can see the list of junk items in the Pip Boy and also what they would break down to.
I tried all the benches etc. but I can for the life of me not figure out how to scrap the items!

Help{

I just got out into the wasteland, and it seems a little odd that you start by the edge of the map. I ran in one direction for a short distance and promptly got "You cannot go that way." on the screen.

Someone please make a mod that makes on materials weight nothing.
I saw in the mod thread that you can hit ~ to bring up the console and type something like "player.modav carryweight 10000" to effectively do this. I don't know if there's a way to do it from a config file.

Settings -> Gameplay. You can change it at any time.

I love it. Go with hard difficulty with CHA oriented build, for the first time in Fallout games. Usually I would go with all guns blazing build, but I decided a bit differently this time :)

Only about 2 hours in. Hoooboy,I can tell im going to spend a lot of hours in this game. Also getting pretty good (so far) performance from my 2500k/7950 combo. That sweet sweet 60fps.

The items in this game are great, even early. Barely 2 hours in and I feel like a badass

only managed a few hours this morning but about to get back into it.

i'm not sure of my character. i want to try change her name/appearance. i was happy with it leaving the vault but now i don't know. it's basically just the default female with red hair. i found the character creation to be a bit awkward so just wanted to get playing.

also i'm confused how power armour/special stats and mods work. all my stats basically had 4 each. i used the power armour and left it at RR. if i need it then i'm gonna need to go all the way back to pick it up. i want to mod some weapons. i'll get into settlements later.

I don't want to spoil much but I am curious about one thing right at the wasteland start:

Do you ever get to go outside the map boundaries, or is that corner of the map you start in the limit the whole game, as far as everyone knows?

So the game looks surprisingly decent maxed out on PC. Honestly I was expecting a LOT worse. The sense of atmosphere in the game is phenomenal.

Also 2 hours in and already absolutely in love with the game.

Man, I really, really like this game so far.

First off, whoever it was that tried to say the
Corvega Plant
is a small place... LOL.

no

(minor spoilers ahead)

this place is huge and packed to the gills with raiders. It never ends.

I finally get to the top floor of this place and kill the raider chief, after a good hour long loot-n-shoot session. I leave my Power Armor on the factory floor for a minute, to go up into a nearby observation office to loot his corpse.

He's got some badass spike armor. I immediately equip it. Hell yeah, this is exactly the kinda shit I came here for!

So I turn around and what do I see? Two raiders on the factory floor who just came up the same elevator as me. This shouldn't be too hard, right? It's just two of them.

For a second I thought one of them was eyeing up my Power Armor. Nah, I thought. There's no way he can get in that shit.

I snipe the one, and by the time I'm out of the scope view this fucker is actually inside of MY Power Armor, just barreling toward me with a pipe iron. I had to bust out the last of my shotty and minigun ammo to take this douchenozzle down. And what am I left with? Totally fucked up Power Armor :(((

I love that that's even a thing that can happen, lol.

Some areas look great, others look bad. Overall I think it looks quite good, so I am also very happy with it on PC.
