This thread moves too fast! What difficulty is a good challenge?

I'd say hard is pretty safe. I wonder what fighting feral ghouls is like on harder difficulties, because if you're not well-equipped and 'accidentally' encounter a horde of ghouls, if you're not careful your shit will get fucked. This happened to me twice and I'm on normal lol

Got about 2 hours in last night then had to go to bed. Today is my last day of work before my vacation begins. I already stated experiencing signs of short timers disease yesterday afternoon. It's gonna be a loooong day.

The game is fantastic. Coming out of the vault and seeing the world then beginning the classic "Hey, what's that over there?" is awesome. Havnt had one glitch yet or any real frame rate issues. Considering Unity basically broke my ps4 I guess it's video game karma I got a good one this time.

I have two questions to those who are playing on PS4. (I asked before but the game wasn't unlocked back then).

Can you start playing after downloading 4 gigs like in Bloodborne or does it get stuck like after the intro like most games? I am much curious because my connection is like 256ish most days. (no seriously, it is 3mbs or whatever it is called)

What is the gunplay like? Which game can you compare it to?

You can't play at all until the entire 33gb is downloaded. Trying to do so just takes you to an "installing" screen where the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. videos play over and over.

Just stop talking about it now. Jesus fucking Christ don't you understand that by confirming or denying it spoils it even further.

Indeed. There are two phases in being spoiled, the spoil and the confirmation.

If someone thinks they've been spoiled, even if the spoiler is a convincing fake, deny or be as coy as can be. You can still have a pretty standard experience if you think you might have been spoiled, but if you are sure of it that can ruin things.

quick question, FACTION AND SIDEQUEST SPOILERS

just did the brotherhood of steel sidequest when they are being attacked at the police station, now hes asking me to join. Will that lock me out of anything? I would assume no this early on but still

also, the location where you do that side quest is fusion cell central, anyone that wants to use energy weapons go do the
police station radio signal side quest
asap

also also, FUCK
Preston. He bitches about EVERYHTING. He bitches about giving drugs to the old lady, he bitches about me taking caps for quests, he bitches about me possibly joining the brotherhood. Fuck off dude, jesus. Come back Dogmeant

edit: ok at least you can postpone your decision, Ill do that and save it for later for now I guess

Don't raise any SPECIAL past 9 because, yes, there are bobbleheads to collect.

Unsure about the rest of your questions re: level caps and such. I think Level 50 is the cap.

Okay rad, wasn't sure if bobbleheads were still in or worked the same way.

I really wasn't following the game pre-release very much, but I could have sworn I saw a bunch of headlines that there was no level cap; maybe you cap at 50 or whatever but keep earning points to put into skills? The impression I got was you could eventually theoretically max everything out.

People frequently misuse spoiler tags to hide non-spoiler parts of their message with limited context to indicate what's hidden. So you really have to guess whether they've hidden the punch line of a joke or a legitimate spoiler. Perhaps the site should have a punchline tag as well and consider bans for consistent misuse of the actual spoiler tag.

Maybe it should. I just think it's hilarious how someone can get called out for 'lacking common sense' for using the spoiler tags (albeit unmarked, which was def his mistake) by those who clicked the tag because they, in fact, didn't use their common sense and, lo and behold, found spoilers inside. If you're unsure, don't click it.

That's not to say I, in any way or form, wish people to get spoiled. Absolutely not, I despise people who go around intentionally spoiling shit for people.

Shame the argument got derailed, cause I agree with him and I'm surprised how many here seem to not understand why your character having a pre-defined history can be annoying to some. Like he said, I don't want to be someone's fucking wife and I don't want to have children, and (after prologue spoilers)
I don't want to look for my son
. NV's start was perfect, it literally just gave you an occupation, that's it.

How do you get out of power armour? I removed the minigun and what I think is all the armour but I still have that distinct HUD and sound.

feels more like Mass Effect with the voiced protagonist. and dialog options are very noticeably chopped down.

also, getting into conversations is weird. Sometimes they just happen automatically? and others you hit A and it takes the NPC forever to react.

is there a way to compare stats in the shop? I'm on controller on pc. I guess I could remember all my items' stats, but the past 15 years of RPGs have spoiled me a bit.

It's def a Bethesda game-- very fun and awesome, but lots of little things to be ironed out in patches and mods. I'd actually say the bar is starting higher than usual with this one.

Okay pls help (hope this doesn't get buried)

Got this for my bf last night cuz Fallout is really the only big game franchise he's into. He was really excited to play it. Oh and I got it got his XB1.

But

We got to the initial stat distribution screen and the game kicked us to the title menu and said we'd have to sign into a profile again. So we did and then we couldn't get past the loading screen. I figured I'd restart the console, but still the same problem.

Anyone else having this issue? We have the day one patch installed and XB1 is running on most recent firmware.

I really wanna fix this so he can play.

Have you tried a hard reset? Hold the power button on the console for 10 seconds and it'll shut off. Also, pull the power cable and then hold the power button for a 10 more seconds before plugging it back in and trying again.

If that doesn't work, the only other thing I can think is to reinstall the game.

I did do a hard reset but I didn't pull the cord. I'll try it though, thank you!

So played for about 4 hours last night - didn't get too far but enjoyed taking it slow. Turns out picking up random crap is important in this game for mods. Who knew baby bottle produced 2 rubber and 1 plastic? or that an empty can produced 2 aluminum?

Gun play seems good and really enjoying the setting. My wife cried twice during the opening 15 minutes - doesn't help we have a seven month old at home. She is very insistent that I follow the main story.

What is the purpose of settlements?

Did you buy any chance start playing while it was still installing? Sometime that screws stuff up, and is why I always wait until 100% and ignore the "ready to start message". If hard reset doesn't work you may need to delete and reinstall it and wait until it's 100% before touching it

I'm on a business line, 75/15 guaranteed. Every other device sees that much bandwidth. The ps4 only measures 30/10.
PS4 only receives certain bands, the wifi capabilities in it suck. It can't even connect to my media band, which is where all the speed is. It's slightly better directly hooked in but I still feel even that is way slower than it should be

Except they couldn't even do the Mass Effect dialogue right.

At least in ME, I almost always know what's gonna be said, AND the dialogue was almost always interesting.

Is there a way to disable the scroll wheel third persion view adjustment in the PC version? I've been using the scroll wheel to scroll through loot lists but if I keep scrolling past the end of the list it puts me into third person.

Does the whole game lead up to that ending spoiler or is it not that big of a deal in the grand scheme? How much of the experience is tarnished knowing the ending?

This part is absolutely just... A new level for Bethesda. You encounter this area fairly early on in the game as well
On the way to Concord to meet the Minutemen for the first time/ scripted Deathclaw fight
. Like... God what the fuck man. Did they just forget to develop that part? Oh, one other thing about that area, my framerate absolutely SHITS itself at that area. It'll run 60FPS or around 60FPS on high (AA turned off), but as soon as I get to that area it turns into a slideshow. If I look away the framerate goes back to 60FPS. Bethesda pls

Areas perfectly fine for me.
Textures are there, quite a nice little area to look at.

PS4 version.

Most of us are going to do multiple playthroughs and be playing it for a long time, just like people are still playing Skyrim after hundreds of hours. It sucks but overall it really doesnt fucking matter

Just received the game!

I was planning to go for Perception/luck build, is it a good idea ?
Also, how many perks can we get once max level ?
