Fallout 4 |OT| Atom Bomb Baby

The introduction to the base building is horrendous, there's zero tutorial. The guy literally says "go build some beds". UI is a mess to navigate as well, whoever thought X was perfect for navigating a menu as well as changing whatever object you happen to look at, is a fool.

Thank god I watched the Giantbomb quicklook yesterday so I know what to do, but sheesh.

Is it possible to scrap the individual junk items you collect outside of your settlements?

Also: Bethesda scored a win with Fallout 4. Feels more like FNV than F3 to me.

Early game Lexington spoilers:
I've yet to attack the factory, as I was waiting to level up before attacking that raider in power armour. Then, whilst stalking around the town, I came across that raider, and his posse, slaughtered on their catwalk, surrounded by ghouls. Anyone else have this happen?

10 obviously or there wouldn't be a reason to go that high! The skill/attribute system isn't like the other ones so you can max your charisma within the first ten levels if you want to put your points that way. So if that is your primary goal in the game, just go that route immediately.

Thanks !

I played for over 5 hours now and this game is pretty underwhelming.

I'm playing on PS4 and the low fps and constant hickups are very noticeable, especially during firefights.
The gameworld is large, yet after the x outposts with a few enemies and mostly trash as loot, it's getting kinda repetitive.
The gameplay and control feel very clunky and I find some button combination not very intelligent (e.g. holding R1 longer to throw grenades, R3 for crouching, holding O longer for the flashlight etc.).
The graphics look dated, even for an open world game like Fallout 4.

Many reviewers mentioned those points, but didn't give bad scores, because they got hooked into an interesting game world.

I'm still waiting for the latter.

Yeah, this game doesn't really see fit to offer solid tutorials for its most complex (and some of its most integral) elements, which is strange and a bit annoying. Are there any really good 'tips and tricks' articles available yet?

I don't think those items serve a purpose outside of transferring them to benches and dropping them for scrap when crafting

I'm the same way as you, which is why I enjoyed Witcher 3 so much. It has a great open world to explore but it doesn't come at the expense of the story, characters, and writing.

Everything I've read so far indicates that FO4's plot is basically just serviceable. I don't think we're going to get gripping writing out of Bethesda anytime soon. I feel like FO4 is a game you play for the atmosphere rather than the story.

Wait, what? The Witcher 3 is a open world game AND has a great story and good writing? Even if you haven't played the older The Witcher titles?

Hm, I shall look into this!

That doesn't answer my question. I wanna know what the first tier of the perk does, the supply lines.

I've searched the whole forums and literally no one knows. Neither do the wikis. Bizarre.

This may help.

Go into the "settlement build mode", select a settler and press Q, if you're on pc ofcourse. you can read about it in the help menu.
I got it up an runing between two settlements. it's suppose to "sync" items from workbenches between those settlements, but it doesn't do that for me, no idea why
edit: if not q then r, one relocates the settler entirely, the other set a supply point
edit 2: got it working, i think you need to have someone living in both settlements

I noticed that my bench inventories were shared in Sanctuary. Not sure about beyond that.

Hmmmm OK I am prepared to be proved wrong, but that's how it appeared and that's what I've read elsewhere too.

OK maybe it's shared within the settlement. I could have sworn I didn't have resources to make a turret at another settlement when I was sure I had them back at Sanctuary. I'll have to check later today. Would save a lot of time if the bench inventories are shared though.

EDIT: Just saw that post above this one. Looks like I'll need to work on getting that perk then. :)

Anybody found either of the swords or the combat knife?

Also somebody was asking if there was an eyepatch in-game
there's not at least going through guide

I found a sword for sale at
the trading post where you negotiate between a drug dealer and Grandma Trader.

And if there's not an eyepatch now, it'll be modded in eventually.

Quoting for new page. Anyone know?

Was wondering this too.
According to the guide:
This perk enhances your workshop settlements. It allows you to create the following:

  • Trading Stand, Shop, Emporium*, (Rank 2)
  • Armor Stand, Stop, Emporium* (Rank 2)

  • Weapons Stand, Shop, Emporium* (Rank 2)

  • Drink Stand, Bar, Restaurant* (Rank 2)

  • First Aid Station**, Clinic**, Surgery Center** (Rank 2)
  • Armor Workbench, Chemistry Station Type 1 & 2, Cooking Station Type 1 & 2, Cooking Stove, Power Armor Station***, Weapons Workbench 1 & 2 (Rank 2)
  • (* Requires Cap Collector Perk, Rank 2)
  • (** Requires Medic, Rank 1)
  • (*** Requires Armorer, Rank 1)
As the ruler everyone turns to, this is a
critically important perk to unlock as you work on improving the settlements you are running. Both ranks of this perk enhance your settlements, but Rank 2 is most dramatic. Consult the Workshop chapter for the specific benefits

Random question about your name that can be said in the game: is there any reason to have a surname? They only say your first name assuming it's a name that they recorded, right? Just making sure I'm not missing out on anything by not adding a surname.

Also, it's only Codsworth who says it, right? Just a yes or no is good for that if anyone knows. Thanks.

Is there a way to change your character's appearance after leaving the vault?

Yep.

Yep. Oh and surnames can be spoken by cogs as well. Not quite sure how the works though.

Quick question about bench inventory management. Do you just dump everything into the main work bench? I've been putting stuff in all of them (Armor, Weapon and Main). Or does it not matter since they are shared. This is within one settlement.

11 hours in already got a fat man lol and just got my first ledendary enemy kill got a cool fire pistol... the graphics are indeed lol but damn is this game addicting.... still only on the second mission..Kappa

Just got home and about to start...

How important is Int for leveling? Normally I'd take almost max Int for skills and the like, is it as important as 3 or NV? I was considering making it at least 8 to start.

I thought I should post this unexplained synergy that Cap Collector Perk has with the Local Leader Perk.

Charisma Lv.1 Perk:
LEVEL 01: CAP COLLECTOR

You’ve mastered the art of the deal! This perk enhances your workshop settlements with better bartering power. It allows you to create the following:

Trading Emporium (Rank 2, with Local Leader perk Rank 2)

Armor Emporium (Rank 2, with Local Leader perk Rank 2)

Weapons Emporium (Rank 2, with Local Leader perk Rank 2)

Restaurant (Rank 2, with Local Leader perk Rank 2)a

Clothing Emporium (Rank 2, with Local Leader perk, Rank 2)

Choose this if trading is your favored way
to accrue wealth, and you have a bustling community of traders (including those you’ve attracted to any settlements you own).

Really agree with the fps comment. I can barely play for 2 hours without getting a horrible migraine. I'll give it a few more hours then if I'm not compelled I'm gonna trade it in.

Yep you got it, it's all shared within the same settlement.

HOLY SHIT big spoiler for a minutemen quest
you had to retake a building which was destroyed by a creature that rised from the sea one day. I thought this was the usual rpg bullshit about big creatures that never show up, but while retaking the building a huge mirelurk queen rised from the sea and came to the building she was like 2 super mutant behemonths in size and could one shot me with ease, it was a glorious fight took her down after throwing missiles and like 20 grenades at her aswell as the rest of the minutemen shooting her.
This game is awesome!!!

I burned all my stimpacks on the early side quest at the power plant and I don't know where to get any more. Trashcan Carla wants like 200 bottle caps for one too, and I'm broke! Diamond City is way across the map (I'm guessing it's the game's way of telling you to get exploring) and I'm scared of what's out there.

Great game so far though. My one complaint is the voiced protagonist. I'm trying to role play as a mad scientist and it just doesn't gel with the voice actor. Also, the base building is garbage and I'm going to avoid it whenever possible.

Oh my good sweet lord Radscorpions are terrifying
Feral ghouls are terrifying
Even bloatflies are terrifying.

Yup! First time encountered a Radscorpion I was like "WTF! O.o"

However my most terrifying moment until now was when I first encountered a Ferak Ghoul:
I was walking into a build when I stumbled in a corpse that standed up, I thought it would be easy kill until I looked behind him and there was a ton of them running like crazy behind me
!

Five easy quick questions after my first play session (went in mostly blind).

1. I just jumped out of my Power Armor after the
Deathclaw
fight. Should I have stashed it somewhere, or brought the (oh-so-heavy) parts to a place? I just left it....

2. Should I be focusing on perks/SPECIAL points when levelling up in the beginning? Thinking I f-ed up a few things but I don't know if I should keep going or reroll. Played about 5 hours.

3. I don't understand the building stuff, and am stuck in the first quest in Sanctuary. They apparently want food, but to plant for example corn I need corn. I have no corn. Where would one get corn, or the ability to plant corn? Corn.

4. What should I do with all my junk? Is most of it worth saving for the crafting/building, and if not, any good early-game easy to get to vendors? I'm overburdened so often. Any reason to keep duplicates of stuff in this game? I know F3 had the repair mechanic but that doesn't seem present here.

5. I don't understand the armor stats. What do the icons mean? And why does some say +++ when they don't seem better or even have the same icons (which would make them useless for comparing between eachother, no?)?
