Are you locked to a single group and have to load a save to join and finish another?

I put it in a spoiler tag for people that dont want to know, but there is no story spoiler.
No you can join as many factions as you want, and play almost every quest, but at some points in the story you have to choose who you want to support. And the game doesn't say "if you choose option A option B will vanish" it just happens, so you have to be a little careful, but the story is pretty straight forward so i think you will know when you make a big discussion.

I had to cheese this one -- over by one of the doors to the inside part of the fort, there are two partially bricked up windows, one of which you can shoot through that will protect you from the queen's annoying spit attack. All you have to worry about is the occasional wandering hatchling.

If you search around
There is a Missle Launcher in the Fort. I used all my ammo before finding it.

I'm getting my ass kicked.

I can't kill the Mirelurk Queen. All the NPCs die along with other Mirelurks just chasing me constantly. I cant even seem to get away to leave it for now it just follows me.
Run to the buildings nearby where she can't come in and just plug away at her health. Be wary of her ranged attack.

I'm not sure what to do regarding storing my stuff - is it the workbench I want to store it at? Do I need to create a container in the settlement I have to store stuff? Im almost at my limit for carrying. Can I put all the items (junk, weapons, armor) into the same container? or do they have to go into different containers? Are there limits to how much can be stored in a given container?

Also, I have my Power Armor (only 1) stored at Red Rocket garage at the PA rack. However there are no defences in place at Red Rocket - should I move it to a secured settlement? Would I run the risk of loosing it otherwise?

Got the perk poster framed for only $22, potato quality picture.

zMoXgKF.jpg

does that come with the game or the strat guide?

You can store anything you have at the workbench -- no container needed.

I love the enemy dialouge

Mr Gutsys. And the super mutants

I was wearing my vault suit killed super mutants and the last guy left was screaming after I killed all his friends .... I HATE YOU BLUE LADY.

And isn't Curie the cutest

Just dump everything in the workshop. Junk is auto-scrapped and there is a button to transfer all junk (y on xbox). You can use left/right to filter the different categories of items later

I've never had issues leaving my power armor in racks, but earlier in the thread people said it can get robbed so be careful. The solution given was to remove the power core?

best part though, lv14 and still no sight of a legendary monster. even though i have two legendary weapons and a chestpiece that slows down time if i lose 3/4th of my health.

wait what? I'm also lvl 14 and seem to run into legends all the freaking time. I kinda hate it since these guys are bullet sponges and the drops arent always worth it.

Also, mutations are .... eh. yay 10% health left on tha- oh. never. mind.

Keep taking your companion on quests and keep asking about their thoughts.

This gives you an idea of what the companion likes, but essentially, there are certain actions (both quest and miscellaneous actions) that each NPC is fond of, as well as ones they don't like. It gets pretty obvious who likes what after a bit, though.

edit: Also, question related to the vault suit - if you're not wearing it when you're trying to enter a certain area post-power armor acquiring, does a certain NPC
Piper
Not call you by a certain callsign?

I actually think the name she gives
Blue
is kinda cool, but am wondering what'd happen if she didn't see the suit.

Got my first bugged quest.

I was supposed to rescue a kidnapped guy for a settlement, when I got there he was dead. Can't advance the quest in any way. Great.

Ran into a legendary deathclaw yesterday at like level 12. Thought I was hosed, luckily I had recently picked up a rocket launcher AND you can cheese pathing by standing on a box. Figured there'd be some huge reward, nope.

So what's the deal with factions this time around? I joined the Minutemen but then as soon as I was asked to join the BoS the Minutemen companion got pretty antsy. Can I join more than one faction at a time? And is this the same "good" Brotherhood as the one in Fallout 3?

In terms of how the Brotherhood is displayed in 4:
They are much more ruthless than 3's BoS and have a genocidal hatred of synths. I feel like the writing doesn't even acknowledge that the BoS does some seriously messed up stuff to achieve their goals, they are still 'the good guys' in the end despite their problematic worldview and tactics.

Question for those who have done the quest Diamond City Blues:

During the meetup, I went through with the murder of Nelson Latimer. I also killed Paul after we split the loot because he was being a ponce about things.

Nelson's dad confronted me about killing his son. We ended at an impasse, with him promising retribution. A couple of hired guns have shown up and tried to take me out in Diamond City, presumably on his behalf.

On this page: http://www.nukahub.com/quest/diamond-city-blues/, it says that all of Diamond city will eventually turn hostile toward you if you kill Nelson and cannot resolve things with his father (as happened to me).

Does anyone know if this is correct? I really don't want to lose access to Diamond City. Kind of hoping that if I don't finish the quest (haven't gone to the chem factory yet), the whole city won't turn against me? Or maybe if they do, I can do the "wait for 7 days" trick to get them to forget?

Anyone have any insight on this?

my exact experience with likely the same encounter

So who are your favorite companions to bring along? Mine is
Strong
.

Does great power with the melee and by getting in close, distracts some of the harder foes so I can blast them away from a distance.

I like Dogmeat too for the same reasons. Havent got that perk for him yet.

My Fallout 4 just arrived! =D
Installing now on Xbox One!

I got Fallout 3 code with it, that said, how does it performed on X360? (I didn't have one)

I absolutely despise the companion system in this game. I finally found my damn dog, and now I want to use Piper for a few missions and she's gone MIA at Red Rocket.

Ugh.

How do you repair power armor parts?
Get out of your power armor near a power armor station (it's two yellow bars, there's one in Sanctuary and one in the Red Rocket Gas Station). Then go into the Craft menu (E on PC) and you can see your individual armor parts. You can then press the prompt to repair them (which will cost you resources).

She still calls you
Blue
even if you're not wearing the vault suit. She does comment that you're not wearing it but she assumes you're from the vault cause of your pipboy.

I thought every legendary enemy drops legendary loot.

Ya I'm not surprised, was kinda outta left field seeing it at the end of that area. I almost died cause I fell off the damn box when it only had a bit of HP left. Fired a rocket, takes him down a bit more... figured I was dead then the mysterious stranger comes out and finishes him off. LUK build is so damn stupid good lol.

What I assumed too, nope just meats.

Anyone have any insight on this?

The same thing's happening to me and I haven't had any repercussions beyond the triggermen showing up to harass me, so I don't think you have anything to worry about. The person writing that guide may have accidentally shot a civilian in the gunfight which would turn the entire city against you. I wish I could kill Lattimer to stop getting harassed, but I haven't seen him anywhere.

holy shit theres a place to hand in those "overdue books" O_o

Bathesdaaaaaaaaaaa

Codsworth flame and chainsaw attack is superior imo. And really good against Ghouls and swamp flyes so i always prefer him.

Well that sucks. Any chance you can reload and take him on again to see if he drops anything?

Screw that lol. Last legendary dropped a crap item anyways, I'll just move on. A pity though since my character is dumb as a rock so she can't craft crap.

Excellent, thank you! I was hoping it was something like that - the repercussions sounded pretty extreme from a game-design standpoint.

That sucks. :(

I guess this year all looting systems in most games have been kinda broken and not very rewarding until they are patched to kingdoms come. huh?

That's
not true. The Brotherhood are assholes in a different way than the Institute, and you can still wipe them out as a "good" aligned character.
It's actually a bit more nuanced than in Fallout New Vegas, where there is absolutely no reason to side with Caesar's Legion unless you're playing a character who is comically over the top evil.

I actually didn't mind the relatively beneficent Brotherhood from Fallout 3, although I may be the only one.

It doesn't work for me. When I tell Dogmeat to grab it the book disappears instantly.

Hmm I'm on the PS4, and I have to time it correctly. It is a lot of work right now to time it right and I don't think it is entirely worth it unless you really want some perks in other trees (like I might not do strength or endurance just agility, charsma, int and luck)
