Found a very odd bug that caused my character to permanently have 95% accuracy on all headshots, regardless of range. This is insane; can anyone else recreate it?

(Very minor spoilers, but tagged 'em anyway. Not main quest related.)

It started happening after I got the
Killshot
perk,
the reward for finishing Robert MacCreedy's questline.
. The perk claims to give +20% accuracy to all headshots, and I was kind of confused if it gave +20% to the odds (so 50% would become 60%) or just a flat +20%.

Yeah, turns out it just sets everything to 95%. As long as the head is visible, I'm good. Even if the accuracy would've been 1% before.

Here's images of me aiming with the lowest-accuracy weapon I had; a fucking minigun.

See that super mutant way off in the distance?

95%.

It works behind glass

Things like turret barrels count as heads.

Everything is completely effortless now, even on very hard, so if you're playing a VATS character you probably want to avoid
getting friendly with Robert MacCreedy
.

I just got a Double Barreled Shotgun that doesn't need to be reloaded.

I don't think I need to explain to anyone who ridiculously overpowered that gun is. I named it "Destroyer of Worlds" and locked it in a safe.

Someday this is going to be looked back upon as the 21st century's version of George Washington declining to be king.

Quick question, are there any Ghoul towns or npcs in the game? The only non-feral ghouls I've even seen after 30 hours of playing were
a few of the triggermen Skinny Malone had working for him in Vault 114.

This sucks if it's true :/

Ok new plan. I'm gonna keep my current armor as is but for now I'm only going with future leather armor and maybe a combat armor arm. I'm just gonna plan on only using these two since my Guide has them as the two least heavy armor pieces. So unlike what I did earlier I won't be worrying about this.

The downside is that I now really need the lone wanderer perk and to start bringing dogmeat with me instead of a companion because I need that extra carrying weight and pack mule would take too long to get.

Yes.
There is e.g. a small settlement called The Slog in the north/north-east of the map that (I think) you can expand like the other spots.

Can I increase carry weight for power armour? I carry around about 400 weight but putting on the power armour drops to 360.

I'm not seeing the issue here. People expect that a new feature that was quite advertised to actually have some depth and mechanics to go along with it. That's pretty darn reasonable. Just because you're happy with a very lackluster part of the game doesn't mean others should.

Settlements will be great once modders start working on making them actually matter. For now they are just there, and no, they really aren't much "fun".

My issue was the fact that the thread was a "show off your settlement" thread, not a "come in and tell us why you don't want to do it, it isn't fun, 'whats the point, brah?!', etc even though there are tons of people enjoying it for it is right now."

Can it be better? Of course. But that applies to every game and every system everywhere. Everything can be improved upon.

If it hasn't been posted already someone put up an interactive Fallout 4 map which you can register for to track collectibles, etc.

http://fallout4map.com/

Logging in and all that didn't seem to mobile friendly yet, but the browser one is pretty kick ass. You can add custom notes and stuff.

This sucks if it's true :/

I wish I'd made a backup save before noticing the bug; getting headshots was a risk/reward thing before, now it's just dumb. Even survival difficulty is stupidly easy when you can load fifty minigun rounds in a super mutant's head from a mile away.

industrial.
water.
purifiers.

edit:
it stocks purified water for every 1 over your persons/required, and it restocks every refresh time/whenever you go back. i have 400+ water from sanctuary hills distributed across the wasteland's settlements and still produce 280~ bottles of water every time i come back. i didn't find out about this until near the end of the main questline, so... yeah.. i'm probably gonna avoid doing this on a replay because it trivializes all costs

OK... maybe some dumb questions but:

1. What does this mean?
it stocks purified water for every 1 over your persons/required

2. How do you distribute water from one settlement to all of your others? Do you have a line from Sanctuary to each other settlement?

If you're getting into armor modding, prepare to pick up every single piece of leather equipment that you can find (leather is hardly ever found outside of scrapping attire and is needed even if you're modding metal shit).

You can buy bulk shipments of all of the core materials (including leather, copper, screws, etc) from merchants but it's expensive.

bah so the only armor you can find is the ugly raider one and the random frames with random pieces of power armor on it?

You can buy frames from merchants. Pretty cheap too IIRC- about 250 caps.
2. How do you distribute water from one settlement to all of your others? Do you have a line from Sanctuary to each other settlement?

If you pick the Supply Lines perk (Charisma Level 6) then you can establish supply lines to each settlement which will then share workshop inventory at all settlements with a supply line.

Unfortunately it only provides resources for the player to use. There is no way to have a settlement producing 60 water to provide water to another settlement.

So you'll get that excess purified water for your own use but you can't use that same water to meet the needs of a settlement that is low on water. Same applies to food.

Alright, so I've seen some characters wearing a black beanie and I really want it but haven't managed to find one yet. Anyone know a spot where I can grab it?

You don't even need to put a core in the armor for companions

Beautiful. I'm gonna Oprah the shit out of my companions and maybe even a settlement or two. Everybody get's a Power Armor.

What's the rush to discover the whole game? I don't understand. Take your time if you want, the game isn't going anywhere.

I know, but my time is limited. It would be one thing if the attacks were more substantial, but they're kind of lackluster. The controls are kind of wonky but I do enjoy base building. It's nice to create something crazy and huge, but once I'm done or more often just after a while I feel like I wasted my time.

Same thing happened to me in Minecraft and Starbound and other games like that. The ultimate reward for spending all that time building stuff is in your out self satisfaction. The game doesn't provide any, or at least one of substance, for your efforts. And that's contentment is something I guess I lack.

loving my gear atm

Really? I thought that would have been the point. Seems like a missed opportunity.

Also, I have 4 bases linked in a circle. But one of my bases definitely does not have access to the stuff I have at Sanctuary. I feel like I'm doing something wrong.

How are caps later in the game? Right now I've been scrapping just about everything I find (weapons and armor especially) for future upgrades but I'm wondering if I should hold back and start selling some of it for caps. Right now I don't seem to use the caps for much but maybe I'll need them later on?

Anyone else finding this pretty dull? I think The Witcher 3 was so good that other open world games like this seem less enjoyable.

Definitely not, I found The Witcher 3 to be very dull, tons of wasted space between quest points and lack of side stories brought it down for me.

Fallout 4 has so much crazy shit going on all around you, tons of side stories and quests to find if you actually look.... Fantastic game so far.

I'm playing on hard, and every once in a while I realize how much of a non fighter my character is. I get by most quests because of my high int, charisma and luck, but put me up against a legendary deathclaw and I'm basically fucked. So I'm trying to tweak my character a bit to make him over all tougher. I'm thinking about focusing on long range non automatic weapons, and putting some points into endurance.

I think to make myself more formidable, I'll try a crit heavy build, since i have so many points in luck, max out my long gun perk and then put points into chemist and that perk that makes you never addicted to drugs. Basically, make up for my lack of focus in damage with drugs.

Anyone have a build similar to this? I'm level 24, and doing fine, i just want to be able to tear through things better.

Edit: because of my current build and my heavy focus on settlements, money is increasingly less of an issue, so maybe i need to try to buy my way to success. I could probably scrounge together 15k caps if i tried right now. Sucks i have to go to each individual settlement for my store payouts

this is my first bethesda game. i burned through the main story once already (23hrs) and wasn't too impressed, so i figured i'd take it much slower the second time around, explore the world a little, and crank up the difficulty so i don't 1-shot everything with a baseball bat.

1 - is there a point to building up sancutary? like, i built turrets and a tower and beds and all that junk, but ... do ghouls attack me eventually? do i have to defend against someone coming in and fucking up my shit? is it all cosmetic?

2 - why does it seem like no matter what i say to preston he's always on my side? the first time around i was really helpful, so that makes sense, but this time i'm constantly telling him i don't want to help yet he keeps saying that i don't really have a choice. i feel like the four dialogue options don't seem to lead to different outcomes most of the time, aside from finally saying yes/no to the quest offered at the end. i find this super weird, and i get this impression from basically every important npc in the game, as if there's a dialogue tree that always starts the same way and ends the same way & the choices you make in between are just filler.

3 - i found out that
the mayor of diamond city
was a synth, so i went to bash his brains out and spill the circuits on the ground. i guess i wasn't supposed to do that. he just got up again and started talking to me like nothing happened - bug or intended? seems like a lot of npc characters actually can't die at all, they just take a nap and wake up like nothing happened.

i think the game world is super cool and really impressive. the little stories you find in the landscape are neat, like coming across people fighting over luggage in a downed airliner, or seeing corpses in wheelchairs mourning over gravesites. but i'm also very surprised by how all the npc interaction feels really limited - you can accept the quest now, or you can accept it later. or you can try to kill me, but actually you can't. am i doing it wrong? is this just a fallout thing, or a bethesda thing? help me love this game.

Yeah, it really bugs me. Hopefully modders will address it.

You are probably fine. Each workshop still only shows it's individual inventory for just that settlement when you are in the transfer menu. However when you actually go to craft something you will find you have all linked materials available.

Test it like this: Go to two different settlements and find an item that they both share but have different amounts of. Say Settlement A has 9 units of Mutfruit and B has 3 units of Mutfruit showing in their respective workshop inventories.

Now try to craft something that uses Mutfruit. In the crafting screen you should see that your stock of Muttfruit is higher than either settlements inventory. That's because it's showing you all of the Mutfruit in all of your linked settlements. But you can only see that in the crafting screen.

That's basically my build and it's working just fine on Normal about 27 hours in. My dude's a big druggie.

Not having much fun at the moment...just got the main quest to go to the Glowing Sea...I die within seconds...my weapons are weak...I do not have much ammo...I barely hit in VATS...it is hard to aim at things, especially if there is any type of barrier in the way, where they can hit me, but I cannot hit them...this storyline is also so incredibly bonkers so far

Do you know the name of the mod? I can't see one for mine.

Shit, maybe it was for legs? Sorry for the vague answers, I'm at work at the moment. I do know for sure there was a "misc." upgrade (the bottom slot where you can add things like the tesla coils to the torso, targeting sensor to the helmet, etc.) on one piece that increased carry weight.

It's for the legs, should be called Calibrated.

What's the easiest way of getting rid of radiation besides Rad-x? Every time I search around an area, it's hard to find clean water :(

Give one of your settlments more water production than they have people. Any excess water produced will go into the settlement's inventory as Purified Water.

I actually have a harder time finding Dirty Water.

I wish I could produce Dirty Water myself since I have so many Mirelurk Eggs that can use it.

I just realized I've lost my Minigun. Is there any gun vendors who sell one?

Just spotted it. Seems its only for certain types like the T51 legs. Mod is Calibrated Shocks. Time to go farming for adhesive. :(

I disagree completely, i didn't expect settlements to rock my world because i don't play fallout 4 to build, just destroy..and ignored them for 30 hours

I accidentally made a radio broadcast tower at my warehouse (At The Drive In , where i stock my power armors and weapons chests)..and a settler came and introduced herself and wanted to live there.. 4 hours later i have more settlers more food, buildings beds and defenses for my people..

I didn't have to do any of that, but i am enjoying my little microcosm in the wasteland, and having a great time building around it and filling it with people and power suits.

I don't know what your definition of fun is, maybe you don't understand the mechanics and think its hard, in that case that's the games fault for being obtuse, but i'm pretty sure what i'm having with the settlement I chose to build, alongside the killing and wandering, is "fun".

Settlements are only worth what you personally invest in. I can see why people don't get behind them and others do. I went like 2 hours time just building the first one, made it look nice and all but eventually I just moved on. Found 3 more since and I don't feel like investing in something that doesn't impact my overall story arc at all in the end. I'll just keep sanctuary nice and ignore the rest easy.

It's fine, it just doesn't feel complete and definitely not necessary once you realize how little you get out of it other than self satisfaction if building is your thing...

Can someone explain to me how interchanging armor mods part works?

My guide says that if you have already created a mod for say a leather armor piece, if you find the stronger version of that armor variation [aka sturdy or heavy] that you can just interchange mods and put them into this variation. What steps do I need to take to take off the current mods from my old armor and put them in the new one?

This sounds like a game changer as I once again don't have to build every single mod for every new variation of the same armor material I find.

Yea. Just equip a standard mod, or develop the standard mod for that weapon, freeing up the mod that was in the weapon/armor. It will save it for you and you can just equip it to something else without you having to research it or build it. Good if you lack the perk or pieces for that mod.

Story and Faction spoilers

so I assume the actual faction choice to make you hostile with the rest is only AFTER we actually
go to the Institute, since the Institute themselves are the fourth faction

Mod exchange is nice yeah. It actually works for armor pieces as well. Used that to basically create my first silenced pistol after I found one with a suppressor. Made my Gun Nut 1 perk feel less stellar though.

I didn't know you could do that.

WELL HALLELUJAH

I'd kiss you if I could right now. This piece of information just saved me the headache of thinking I now had to once again go around finding fiberglass en bulk.

Now I can do as I normally did anyways which is to grab junk but I don't have to wonder what specific ones I need.
