Getting ready to fire this up. What difficulty do people recommend, I played Fallout 3 and part of New Vegas. I like difficulty that forces you to use game mechanics strategically but I am also more of a casual/dad gamer with limited time. Thanks!

just play Normal. if it's not hard enough for you kick it up. I'm a dad gamer as well and I do Normal. 100% Fallout 3.

The more I play this the more I am mixed about it. Quest design feels so much more restrictive then past Bethesda games.

Quests just seem to have less creative solutions then previous Bethesda games. Less choices or use of speech checks.

Maybe its the main character VO meaning they had less options. Maybe its just more Betehsda streamlining. Who knows.

The world itself is better in a lot of ways then their previous worlds but the story / game in it just isnt doing it for me.

No it's true, it's the worst part of the game really. Most of the quests are just pretty linear and full of TONS of combat. Its much more actiony this time around.

I'd just stick with normal if you're playing casual, you could always bump the difficulty up if it's too easy :)

Start on Normal, move to Hard (or even harder) once you have better gear and guns. Adjust difficulty on the the fly, really.

Ive been playing on hard since the beginning, its a good balance imo, 40 hrs in and i still think twice when going into enemy territory

so ive been to that national guard complex and unlocked the armory. when i went back out there was this huge agile robot that kicked my ass in seconds. I cheesed him when he was occupied with strong and i had a 1% chance to hit his fusion core. i triggered a critical hit and the thing exploded with one hit...
i dont think thats how its supposed to work.

Has anyone found a reliable way to hit the Sentrybot fusion core? It's always been 0% for me but it seems like there should be a way to get a better shot at that thing.

I'd say, at least Hard, but it doesn't take long for you to become OP on hard, so maybe even V Hard.

I'm playing on normal and can basically one-shot most things and just roll around in my Power Armor. If you want even remotely somewhat of a challenge bump it up to hard. I'm going to bump it up for my post game activities.

I got a weapon this morning that enables me to pretty much one shot most things on hard, so I am going to push it to V hard.

I've been playing on Hard and find the challenge level just about right. I can't waltz through fights very often and have to plan out some of the more difficult battles to survive. Most raiders I can plow through now, but things like Glowing ones can present a big challenge.

As a side benefit to the combat challenge, heading to one of my settlements to do some building feels like entering a safe room in Resident Evil - there's a palpable sense of relief/calm. Maybe I should add the safe room music to my game audio...

Was troubled by this too, apparently it is keyboard/language dependant.
You can google and find some lists, but it didn't work for me. I just tried all key on the top left and on the right(next to the enter key) on my keyboard; "ö" worked on my german keyboard.
Thanks. Scandinavian layout here. I'll try that.

Can anyone help me find this god damn second magazine in
poseidon energy - the one that's apparently by Energy Turbine #18-F
? I've been running around there like a cymbal clapping monkey for ages.

There really needs to be a wider range of clothing you can wear under armor. Either that or some of the outfits and clothing pieces that take up multiple armor slots needs to be a little more powerful to make them viable. The armor system in general in this game is kind of irritating. I hate that I can't group my armor pieces by slot.

Gave the Minuteman General uniform and hat to Preston Garvey. Congrats on the promotion! Well deserved.

I don't know wtf is going on but the game is too hard, i play on normal 3-4h in and i die everywhere and the only enemies i see are raiders, ghouls and super mutants.

Is there anything other than vaultsuits that allow you to wear armour over the top?

Most clothing I've found can't have armour over the top, which is strange, why could you be able to but armour over a vaultsuit and not over a tuxedo?

What is your character build / weapons / armour?

It would also be nice if you could designate "sets" of armor, like have a set of energy armor that you could at least organize for easier equipping.

They've made it so satisfying to get in and tinker with the armor, least they could do is give you better organization.

Road leathers, different varieties of Army Fatigues, Long Johns. Those are the ones I've found so far. I might be missing some others. It's weird that you can't wear armor over the many types of civilian clothing that offer no actual defense.

You can ignore them.... they even are grayed out by default usually

Huh ? They seem exactly the same as any other quest in my pipboy. What do you mean greyed out.

After turning them in you can actually run away from the NPC so he stops giving you any because your not within the ear shot of the NPC to finish hearing he dialogue to give you more Radiant Quests but if you want to make sure quick save before you turn them and give it a try.

I tried that, but as soon as the NPC is near me, the fucker gives me the quest anyway by himself. Or if I want to talk about something else. This design just FUCKING SUCKS.
If bethesda insists on putting these generic-ass boring bullshit quests into their games (which by itself is ridiculous), they should always let me at least decline them.

Also, regarding difficulty. I have been playing on Survival because I like healing slowly over time. But fuck the enemies are ridiculous bullet sponges. Emptying three clips into raider's head before he dies is utterly moronic. Is there a way to get slow healing on easier difficulty on which enemies are not so bullet spongey ?

Alright so I'm 30hrs in and I think I'm finally ready to at least make it toward the end game. I already went to
The Glowing Sea
once and have killed
The Courser
which was way easier than I wanted it to be but whateves. Once I've made some decent progress I think I'll go back to just random exploration. Huge swaths of the map are unexplored.

I'll tell you what though, exploring
The Glowing Sea
is nerve wracking as fuck. Talk about atmosphere... what a nightmarish hellscape. It's crazy that Bethesda was able to make something that should seem so boring instead so interesting to explore. Also, I've completely ignored that old seer lady up to this point because the chair that she asks you to build is completely missing from Sanctuary and so is she. I'm sure she's somewhere but whatever she was a badly written character anyway.

That's definitely been my favorite part of the main story so far. It was tense, tough, and terrifying. I think there's some good potential there for a DLC story set in a similar locale.

Speak to Person X
Fast Travel to Place X
Go through two loading doors
Talk to Person X for one line of Diagloue
Speak to Person Y
Go through two loading doors to get out
Fast Travel to Person Y
Go through loading door to talk to person Y
Person Y wants you to talk to X again

smh

Is anyone else finding the new method to switch weapons supremely annoying? Before, you would just press any of the 8 directions on the d-pad and your weapon would automatically switch and be equipped. Now you have to press a direction on the d-pad once, then again or two more times depending on which slot the weapon is in, and then X (PS4) to select the weapon. All in real-time. This is super fucking annoying when you're being ambushed by 3 or more bandits/raiders. Is there a quicker way that I just don't know about yet?

If you do the quest it'll actually give you a version with stats. Still not all that strong though.

It can also be further upgraded, but I'm not sure to what extent. One of my few disappointments with this game is that regular clothes are incredibly weak compared to wearing the armor pieces. They should be weaker when it comes to taking damage, but there's a shitload of legendary armor pieces out there that have some good abilities. It's just so useful that I almost don't care that my guy looks like a complete dork.

Ive gotten used to it now, but yeah I definitely preferred the old version.

Yea but they aren't "Glowing" as in "Glowing Legendary (x)" they just emit a glow. Same toughness as before.

Thanks a ton :)

My problem - and this is completely my problem - is that I keep forgetting which slot has which weapon. Gotta do a better job of remembering that.. but yeah, the older way was much more intuitive/handy.

I have the same issue, I need to remember better. I forgot to assign things to that quick menu too.

Here's Fallout4fps running on the PS4 last night. I got completely stuck and had to fast travel away but not before the FPS tanked to <10FPS.

and this is what happened when I tried to crouch under it

Bugs and major slowdowns aside, I am enjoying the game. Fallout 3 did not grab me at all. I had it for PS3 and bought it recently on PC to try before getting this but I couldn't get into it. Fallout 4 has been something completely different in that respect, I am genuinely enjoying the Minute Men missions.

WTF Really? I'm going to switch Preston to a different Settlement once I get home than because I'm done with the Minuteman Quest Line,I already got his Perk and I'm DONE doing Radient Quests for him for the time being.

Found the Charisma bobblehead and unlocked the Local Leader Perk, so I decided to have some fun turning the Red Rocket Station into an actual outpost.

The settlement building isn't perfect (FLOATING WALLS, AAAAAARRRGHHH), but damn if it isn't fun.

So I was just wandering south of the map and
I stumbled into an underground shelter thing that led to a loooooong red pipe. At the end of the pipe was a monkey .. turned around and part of the pipe opened up... i went down it and got my ass kicked by the institute soldiers... also found a full basketball court and other shit.
I do love exploring in this game

what were you trying to do in the video lol

I love the new version! Works so well with the Razer Naga!

Top row (1,2,3) for guns.
Second row (4,5,6) for melee weapons and flare gun.
Third row (7,8,9) for Aid - radstag steaks, rad-aways, stimpaks.
Fourth row (10,11,12) for Explosives - mines, molotovs, frags.

It's a god-send because I can't stand the Pip Boy. I get that it's a big part of the game's image, but when it leads to such atrocious restrictions with menu design, inventory management, and map layout... this thing really needs to be axed completely. Take off the Pip Boy, and give me a proper menu system please. Such a big step back from Skyrim's UI, and even that left a lot to be desired.

This is my first Fallout so I don't know if this is normal or not but about 10 hours in and the game seems to lack any real charm. Is that consistent with how you guys feel? Is it more about the sandbox elements

At the star light Drive in, for some UNknown reason, all of my settlers are just walking into the radioactive death trap for no reason. How do I make in unradioactive?

What do you mean by charm? For me, game's oozing with it.

Haven't tried it myself, but can't you remove the radioactive barrels in editor mode?

This is my setup as well.. I just hate that it takes two button presses too many to switch to another weapon in the heat of battle.

Why is it that when I have the local leader perk my junk isn't showing up at all my settlements? Do I have to some how assign this?

I mean everything feels kind of half baked. It's got kind of a bio shock retro mix feel but it's not done as well. Charachters are paper thin. Story is paper thin. Combat is serviceable. Visuals are okay, missions are basic. Go here-kill these dudes for (reasons) and collect. It just all seems like a bunch of ideas that are all serviceable but not stellar
