The Final Bosman Show

Yeah I am saddened by Elyse's departure, and for the general state of things for GT.

Can't help but wonder what this means for Mandatory Update, and whether the Turtledoves Production Corporation will be disbanded.

I think people are getting a little ahead of themselves in the whole "GT is dying" business. Things grow and shrink and change, but there are still 9 dudes that are working hard and making what is imo some of the best content related to video games online. Elyse will be missed at GT and things will need to change for sure when it coes to shows like ManUps but people come and go in their industry and any other. GT will continue and if it ends one day then it ends but let's focus on appreiating what is being made for us to enjoy right now rather then what could happen years from now.

P.S. I loved that Elyse becoming a lizard is it's own Doc Brown spider monster moment. It's inherent weirdness got people to comment on youtube and discuss why it happened, therefore proving Kyle's own point. Our Bosman is a clever boy.

It's tough for folks to make a living in this business. She will go where she needs to go in order to make that happen and we should wish her well in that.

I know. I was mostly being sarcastic. But if she goes to either of those sites, I'll never see any more of her work.

Kind of a bummer GT has always been struggling. It really feels most representative of how I feel about games, and has a great list of personalities. Huge bummer :(

Not to be a downer, but you're right. Wasn't until I went back to check something that the meaning of this shot hit me:

Next destination for GT - basement.

I like the light on the wall behind Kyle. It gives a nice gradient on the wall. If one compare it to the last episode the background is incredibly dull, now however, it's nice. Although, I was slightly annoyed at the power outlets and whatever was in the right side foreground.

About the bonus bit, that's not a pokemon in the end, right? Also, wasn't that the Mankey sound from the end of the pokemon episode?

Uh, in Gold/Silver you fight the remnants of Team Rocket and don't encounter any Legendary's as part of the main story though? I'm unsure of the stories after Ruby/Sapphire as my memory is hazy, but he's right in that you need to deal with Groudon or Kyogre in those stories while also stopping a world ending plot.

I guess Kyle could frame it as Johto being derivative of Kanto with more Team Rocket so it's inferior, but it certainly isn't a world ending plot as far as I remember.

I still think a ten year old child stopping a terrorist organization that has hijacked a building is still hokey and 1 step removed from it being a world ending plot.

I also think talking to your mom is a neat thing since it keeps you grounded a bit and just remember you're a kid on an adventurer. It's kind of neat for the same reason you call home in Earthbound to alleviate some of that homesickness. It halts progression for the slightest moment, but I think it's a cool in world thing which I would think Kyle would be a fan of usually. I remember the phone system in general or Vs Seeker or whatever it was being a really cool way to make all characters feel alive and like they were making their own progression in life. The fact they'd get leveled up pokemon and upgrade themselves was super cool to me 10+ years ago and even now.

Man when they flash back to his old set and studio with the plants and the city backdrop it really is a stark contrast to the show as it exists now. A real bummer because Kyle deserves better.

I love the "Twin peaks blooper" in the end, where the dude just walks past the camera in the back of the corridor... I hazz the meaningzzz!

Nice episode. I also Love the fact that Kyle found a use for the overly large final boss mug :D

I think MGSV and Mario Maker have no chance. I do think BB has a chance and the most likely winners are W3 and FO4.

I bet Mario Maker is there only because Reggie greased some palms so they could have Nintendo announcements there :lol.

What a fantastic closing bit, had me cracking up. Once there were 3 of the orange flares I was totally done.

Also, I just realized when I went back to have a look at earlier videos that his video on the NX has a crazy large amount of views. Where his recent videos have been about 25,000-50,000 his NX video had over 120,000 views just on youtube. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQg09fTjmTA )

I guess it's true that his popularity seems to thrive around console launch speculation and such, either way I'm happy to see it spike back up.

BB and Mario Maker have no chance of winning. Most likely to be Fallout 4 (most recent game and one of those big open world wander for hours looking for shit games like DA:I). The Witcher 3 is like the "thinking mans" Fallout 4 in that it's got better quests and story and better characters and more mature themes etc but also has this old guy no one cares about and a horse. I mean that can't complete with a shootbang and a doggie.

Could also be MGSV because who cares if a game is unfinished and drops major plot points and has horrible microtransactions when it plays good and has an open world?

Either way, the real winner should be Splatoon and we all know it.

edit: bless Kyle for continuing to champion DKC: Tropical Freeze. that game is masterful and deserves to be praised until the end of time.

I agree with everything here, especially Splatoon ;p

I actually have no problem on any of the nominees winning.

I'd have a problem with MGSV actually. I'm a big MGS fan and overall really enjoyed it but that game just doesn't straight up deserve winning. It's blatantly incomplete and have some incredibly horrible design choices that just bog down the game.

Fallout 4 or The Witcher 3 are definitely winning, no doubt. Bloodborne is amazing and my favorite but it's hardcore appeal and platform exclusive status won't do it any favors.

Mario Maker is more like an honorable mention than a nominee haha

I don't know if that factors that much to a non-viewers choice award. Especially the latter (TLOU a recent example)

TLOU is a long shot from being as punishing and niche as Bloodborne and Souls games in general. There's no way to play through Bloodborne on an easy mode like in TLOU and the narrative in Bloodborne is vastly more vague and abstract that relies on you reading and interpret things. BB is just less rewarding and satisfying to "normal/casual" players compared to TLOU.

I'm hard pressed to think that the expert panel is filled with people that appreciate the kind of game Bloodborne is compared to the much more accessible and open ended games on that list.

I dunno. I consider BJ to be the most casual of the Gametrailers group (of the current staff) and it sounded like he enjoyed and was able to beat BB and had never played a Souls game IIRC.

I'd like to think that everyone who was appointed a judge for the categories at least played the games and gave them a fair shake. Also, the judges are responsible for nominations so I'm assuming at least some of them are pro-BB :)

I'm not saying there's no way the game will win, because it definitely deserves to in my book. I just think it's pretty unlikely that Bloodborne ends up winning sadly (still not as unlikely as Mario Maker tho lol).
