Everyone buy War of the Monsters or I will destroy you.
I already bought the PS2 classic version like a year or two ago. I will not be buying it again.

People need to stop using the MS comparison; Sony is going back TWO generations with this, it's not an apples to apples comparison. Unless they're doing OG Xbox disc-based BC and I missed that news or something.
Then they should have put in that $5 chip to play PS1 games and $5 EE chip to play PS2 games.

It's a port of the PC version.
I'd pay $15 for resident evil outbreak. Come on do iiiiiit.
Having these titles available on PS4 is already incredibly exciting for us, but we did not stop there. We have brought these titles forward to meet todays gaming standards by adding Trophy support! Each titles Trophy set has been carefully developed in conjunction with feedback from the original creators to be sure that they capture the spirit and feeling of each game.
Also, you will be able to experience all of these PS2 games like never before in up-rendered 1080p with the features you expect from a PS4 game including Remote Play, Live Broadcast, Share Play, Activity Feeds, and Second Screen support for game manuals with PlayStation Vita or PlayStation App.
Agreed. And with shareplay we can do multi!Everyone buy War of the Monsters or I will destroy you.
Well for a simple port of the pc version it's taken them a long time no? PS4 has a similar structure to PC it shouldn't take them over a whole year.
They surely must be updating the dialogue and enhancing the visuals framerate etc. Otherwise Square stinks.
I accept no disc support and forced purchases but $15 is just too much for games you can buy for a buck.
It's a solid comparison, whether you want to accept that or not. Some of these games were sold as PS2 Classics on the PS3, so for many people those could be considered PS3 games.
Symphony of the Night and Banjo Kazooie aren't "360" games, but they were released on the 360 and those versions won't require me to pay an additional fee to access on Xbox One. But any PS2 Classic that I bought on my PS3 I can't still use, despite the fact that they were bought on PS3 only one generation prior. That instance is basically a direct comparison if you want to be technical because they're both one generation old consoles.
Listen, arguing whether it's one generation or two is just semantics. Whatever way you slice it we are looking at a situation where both companies are offering some form of backwards compatibility. One company is charging for it, the other one is not. That's competition, and it factors heavily into determining what the value of something is/should be. I get it free on Microsoft, and have gotten it free on every other system that has ever offered it, and I'm not getting it free on PS4. PS4 is literally doing it the same way as MS too, through emulation. One is free, one isn't. So Sony can just buzz off, I'm not paying. I own these games already.

The whole "but it's two generations behind!" argument is hilarious. It's still emulation and it still cost Microsoft money to develop their solution.
As you say, one offers theirs for free and the other does not. Simple as that.
This. And games that old need more touch ups to look and perform decently on modern HD and 4K TVs. Some of those 360 games are less than 5 years old.
Does MS offers you better looking versions of their old games for free?
Hope they can get CvS2 on there.

Also let's be real, literally the only reason MS isn't charging for BC is because they desperately needed the goodwill/positive talking points. It's ultimately to the consumer benefit of course which is good, but people talking like MS are saints here is hilarious.
Sure, but to be fair every one of the 360 BC games already had achievements which none of these games had on PS3, and those games were also already running at an HD solution when they originally existed which none (?) of these PS2 games did. More work is probably going into the PS2 stuff here, although that probably depends on if these are being done on a case-by-case basis, or if they've developed some sort of fairly generic wrapper or what (really looking forward to some DF stuff on this).
As mentioned in my original post I do agree it's total shit there's no upgrade path for people who bought these on PS3. I don't think Sony would have been willing to put out a separate version of these games on PS4 that were free with cross-buy but without the enhancements/trophies/etc though; if they did people STILL would have just complained it wasn't free, looks like shit etc. At this point Sony also probably doesn't want to be putting out stuff on PS4 that doesn't have trophy support (I think a lot of people forget the PS3 didn't have that for a while lol). It's not a totally unfair complaint but I don't think that was realistically going to be an option.

I think Sony should have just gone with the upgrade option; people would have still complained about no free cross-buy etc, but that was probably the best overall compromise.

This was back in 2007...
That was 8 years ago. It can't be that much now.
But the PS1 emulation was 100% SOFTWARE.
It was software on the PSP. It was software on the Vita. It was software on the PS3. That's why it worked fine when the EE chip was pulled out.
They can port it easily.
Interesting. So it does seem to be just Sony IPs...just as I thought.
That may be so, but it doesn't change the fact that BC is available on some form on both consoles now, and it's free on one and pretty damn pricey on the other. Like I said a few posts above, GTA3 is less than $3 on Steam right now, and it's likely a far better version than the one you'll get on PS4.
That absolutely has an effect on whether or not people think this is worth it. I don't hate it, I'm glad it's happening, but I'm not in for these prices.
