Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Chunk 1 (CyberConnect2, UE4) Trailer, "PS4 Console Debut"

Couldn't watch the video yet, please tell me they use actual pure real time combat. I don't wanna navigate menues while dodging and attacking :/

Fantastic!

That's some horrible running down stairs animation there.

Overall I liked the look though, quite good. I am a little worried about the combat though.

Yes! It's exactly what I wanted. So happy about this. Now I hope they add co-op for the 2 other party members, if they do it'll probably be the best game ever.

Ah yes, ARPG like it should be. Nobody wants to play a turn based rpg on their home consoles now.

I do. :/

I guess Lost Odyssey was pretty much the swan song for the old school turn based, random battle JRPGs on consoles.

It's disappointing but not all that unexpected I guess.

I remember when I said I'd be pissed if this was an Action RPG.

I lied.

This looks incredible. The graphics are fucking mindblowing actually. I legitimately couldn't tell what was CG and what was real time.

Fucking Versus Returns.

I cannot fucking wait to play the
Barret vs Dyne
fight.

Barret looks amazing in those glasses and his voice reminds me of Jet Black.

I love it.

It sounds like the same actor.

I know that I'm not the best source, since I haven't yet played FFVII (though I still wanted to before the remake was announced), but the battle system looks pretty cool, and I really love the Tales series battle systems and learning to master them, so this really interests me. For perspective, the first FF I've really gotten into (haven't tried as much as I should), and have been making some good progress in lately, FFIV on PSP, has been impressing me with how fast paced its turn based battle system is, and I really enjoy it. So I understand why people would want it to be the same awesome battle system I assume VII used to have.

Still, I think what's best is to consider whether the original director, Nomura, is changing the battle system because its what he wants, or if he's doing it because Square Enix wants him to cynically try to appeal to changing markets in the Japanese and Western games industries. Personally, given his work on Kingdom Hearts and FFVersusXIII/XV, I can't imagine he didn't think to change the battle system of his own will.

Really, it seems like real time battle systems have been his interest for a while, and if he can bring the battle system he wanted to with FFVersusXIII to the world with FFVIIR, I don't feel like hating on him. Especially after being taken off FFXV so rudely it seems.

Let's let him take the game where he thinks is best, don't you guys trust Nomura? I understand he's usually considered the best remaining FF director these days.

So it's in the awkward halfway zone where it doesn't quite have the control, maneuverability or response of an action game, but also doesn't have the minute strategization or abstraction present in turn based RPGs?

Seems like a FFXV style worst of both worlds approach. I had hoped it was closer to an action game so it would be more interesting, like kingdom hearts.

Quick conclusions :

1)Nomura is doing what he wanted to do with Versus in this game!

2)And it looks like we're actually getting multiple character ARPG (:P :P Tabata)

3)It looks like Nomura is wearing the Roen clothes in Defiance ? I see the skull symbol.

I think it's exactly closer to XIII than XV. It uses commands, not 100% action system like XV.

Now that we have gifs and I can study the screens for more than ten seconds I can see that a bit more clearly. I didn't notice the menu in the corner at first.

Fight scenes look really slick. Seems to really capture the spirit of the original battle system in an action form.

Out of fight scenes it looks a little goofy, but that's arguably totally in keeping with the original game. Looking good so far!

I really wonder how they are going to handle the overworld.... Scaled like the original? Big and open like FFXV? Menu based?

Looks amazing but I have to admit I felt a tinge of disappointment when I saw the battle system. Totally willing to withhold judgment though. I hope this turns out as good as it looks.

I truly didn't expect actual gameplay shown.

We do have gameplay for XV, KH3 and FF7RE... can't be long on all three now, i could even hope for '16 \ '17 \ '17!

They wouldn't dare make a goofy looking scaled overworld. It's going to be proportional, either that means embracing open world elements or making the entire game more linear.

Very very cool. Wondering if their using the ff15 engine, trying to recoup some of what they spent?

A bit of a bit pick, but aren't his eyes supposed to shine on account of being exposed to mall energy? Isn't that why everyone thought he was SOLDIER? It s been a while but I thought that was the case, and his eyes looked normal when they zoomed in on them.

Made some gifs for tumblr which I'll repost here if that's okay (sorry for the quality, 2mb limit and stuff), and since someone already giffed the first half I'll just post the ones I made of the second half:

After all the complaints that FFXIII got for that, I would think they want to avoid that like a plague.

Anything but menu based. I want to see Zolom swim in the sands.

Damn fucking straight! :D
