Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Chunk 1 (CyberConnect2, UE4) Trailer, "PS4 Console Debut"

I wanted a remake that fixed what was actually inherently broken with FFVII (the graphics) and didn't replace the battle system with Nomura's brand of trash, but apparently that's too much to ask for?
You just wanted to play the same game? This is not like OoT where they only had to upgrade the graphics and framerate, this is a true, more ambitious remake designed to bring old and new fans alike
Seriously, the bashing this game gets is ridiculous.

Voice acting seems... not as good as other games. The frame rate during battle seemed pretty bad, but that is to be expected when getting an early look at a game that is most likely well over a year away. I am not as tied down to the gameplay as the purists, but I'll reserve judgement on the game until it launches.

This is obviously a costly project. I would prefer they stayed truer to the source material such as turn based combat, but if they have to appeal to a larger audience to justify the cost then I understand. If I feel they've gone too far in the end I can always go back and play the original.
See at least you say this respectfully. I can appreciate that. The old version still exist. This is a remake of it. In 2015 at that. With a new director who's known to portray his action a certain way. If that's not your cup of Joe, go with the original brew.

I really dislike action RPGs with party members since it's annoying to rely on AI so hopefully it's not completely real time. They did show off controlling Barret in some way.

I was going to say Cloud looks a bit sick, but thinking about it, all Soliders are supposed to suffer from a kind of radiation poisoning, so maybe they all look a bit sick.

I was not expecting gameplay footage, it looks great. Immediately reminded me of Versus XIII.

I wonder if they are going to confirm or deny Unreal Engine 4.

It's possible to do that as well without completely gutting the gameplay--see Metroid Zero Mission or Resident Evil. They could have kept a similar battle system and improved upon it significantly. But this is a different beast altogether.

Would have preferred ATB, really not a fan of KH style inputs. However everything else looks top-notch. Barret's new design is badass, Biggs Wedge and Jessie are very reminiscent of the classic game. I have faith they will respect the classic game's goofy side and side-content / exploration.

Some people thought FF7 had fun gameplay and was a good game. I understand that many feel differently.

you misunderstood me.

i do not mean ff7 combat ia not fun. i mean it is fun not solely because it is turn based. there are other factors which can be transferred to a more action oriented system.

also if you notice, this is just anothet step in the progression of ff battle systems. it is not a complete overhaul. it is just that there are a lot of incremental steps (x2, xii, xiii, type0/cc, versus xiii) that if you compare the beginning to the end, of course the changes would be big. but it is not a complete overhaul at all.

The framerate during combat was absolutely atrocious, criminally bad. We're talking obvious drops to below 20. And for the incoming "it's still in development", " there is still plenty of time": You better keep your expectations in check because both FFXV and this look like CGI movies, I would be greatly surprised if the drops weren't there for release if there are no downgrades, which there probably will be unless this releases for the PS5 (that will be out by the time this is released).

One thing that I don't like is the cutscene direction so far. You're telling me no one could shoot Cloud even when they sprayed hundreds of bullets on him?

They're going super realistic, so that doesn't make sense. It's not like Cloud is doing anything extraordinary to fend off those shots, either.

At least Noctis has the Phantom Swords defending him.

But X-2 "advanced" into Crisis Core, and then into Type-0, and then into XV. When even the people who designed the actual turn based battle systems decide to go realtime, what can you do? :P

Even Ito went realtime with FFXII!

If you're taking control away from other characters in favor of a "one at a time" system, it's not an advancement, it's a departure.

Crisis Core sure as hell isn't an advancement to anything.

Exactly, this remake isn't for people that thought the original FF7 was a good game. It's for a wider audience who would be otherwise turned off.

I don't know if people are upset with the shift to real-time KH's style combat but I really like that change. Love the KH's series so seeing that combat system come into a FF game has me very excited :D!

Like others said, the game seems very faithful to the original game despite the change in core gameplay and I really like how you can run around the world in full 3D (and not top-down).

Very impressed with how complete the game looks; it looks completely playable and very polished. I could see this coming out in 2017 (FFVII's anniversary) alongside KH3 (that being a fall 2017 release).

Why do you say this when everything we have seen up to this point has been faithful to the original, (besides the battle system of course)

The damn dialogue is practically 1:1 from the first game.

It's a remake, why not? If people want to play the game they loved from the 90's, they just released that on PS4 for people to buy.

Remember that character from Naruto named Sasuke in which AC Cloud and every incarnation from then lifted it's personality? Is here, again.

At least from what the trailer seems to show at least.
You're talking about Noctis in his reveal trailer from almost a decade ago, different game and character and even than appearance only.

The FF series has always had awful combat. Some of the worst RPG combat out there. I don't know if I like the new direction it is going in, but let's not pretend it was interesting in the original. RPGs with great combat systems:

Grandia
Chrono Trigger
Shadow Hearts
Final Fantasy Tactics

That is all that comes to my mind.
I recall Shadow Hearts combat system being almost the same thing as FFX. Final Fantasy tactics is a Final Fantasy game, which is crazy, I know. Final Fantasy X-2 also had a great system, just everything else was sucky.

SO FUCKING HYPED. This game is easily my most anticipated game right now, nothing comes close except GT7. Not even Uncharted 4.

I would have been happy with turn based and I'm equally happy with this new combat.

Graphics are incredible, the world looks so well realized and there's still lots to uncover about the game. I hope it sells 20 million copies and rejuvenates JRPGs.

Action movies do it all the time.

I actually can't wait to see this scene in the remake. Oh god.

The only good thing about the voice acting so far is Biggs' and Barret's voices which are spot on.

Jessie is okay I guess.

Wedge sounds so awful
I'm now glad he dies

I never really liked Steve Burton as Cloud except when he does battle grunts which for some reason sound really amazing.

Uh... is it even FFVII if you throw out the combat for whatever the fuck action-rpg replacement?

People want VII precisely because it's not the new crap.

I don't even care about this now.

I wanted FF AC type combat and i got that .
Not everyone want the same old FFVII combat .

Nomura's "brand of trash" are some of the most fun action RPGs around.
