Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Chunk 1 (CyberConnect2, UE4) Trailer, "PS4 Console Debut"

I don't get why people are so upset that it's not ATB or turn based (it might still be ATB for all we know). You know the game you want exists like that, it's called FFVII and it's been out for 18 years.

It's not called "HD Remaster" it's called "FFVII REMAKE".

So, in the end, this is truly the most faithful remake ever made.

They are even remaking the hardcore fanbase's reaction pre-release.

Nomura is truly amazing.

Sorry if the joke was already made =X

Then why did the combat change?

Because it's not 1997 anymore! Seriously I don't understand why you have established this phony mutual exclusivity in your mind between fans of the original and those who are looking forward to this remake.

He has always looked scrawny, but it's more notorious now. Even his Smash 4 model looks a bit beefier.

Looking at this render makes me realise that FFVII Remake Cloud's hair was copied and pasted from Advent Children. Strange, if you ask me.

This looks better. They should either beef up his arms some on the remake model or shrink his bobble head.

I'll watch this one. But the art style doesn't feel like Final Fantasy quite yet. It feels a bit too Western looking so far.

The game is not for people who like FF7 already. They wouldn't have changed it otherwise.

Because Nomura doesn't make turn based games and he's basically been in charge of FF7 since Sakaguchi left. It's stupid to act like this isn't targeted at all to FF7 fans.

This group isn't the only group that was asking.

Also the creators aren't just trying to appease fans, they are approaching this with their own vision of what they think this remake could be. They are all getting older, and want to do something new. They don't want to retread old ground. It's not like they made FF7 know it would blow up and knew exactly why people would love it. They just poured themselves into it at the time, and they are in a different place creatively, which much more and varied experiences to draw on.

Honestly you're points are devolving into shit posts at this point.

Because I dislike something you do? OK.

Disagree. If ones more faithful to the original it's a much better look.

I'm finding it odd that if you like Cloud you would prefer the model that looks less like him.

Not only does that have nothing to do with what you were responding to but I'm also talking about Dissidia Arcade, not Dissidia.
Ik you were talking about the Dissidia Arcade.

I honestly thought we wouldn't see this game again for at least a year. I still can't process the fact that we've seen FF7r gameplay. HOLY FUCKING SHIT.

His one job was making a game that is relevant to today's audiences.

Exactly. A simple remake would be the same game, but better.

The same FF7 but better has no relevance in today's AAA market.

This is a straight up reimagining. They are making a new game, with a new audience, that shares the same plot.

That was pretty fucking incredible.

I somehow have trouble imagining them pulling off the entirety of FFVII (it is a long game) with this kind of attention to detail. It seems more believable if the game were only the Midgar portion, but everything? This could be a long way off.

Yeah. This looks so fucking good.

You argued that the team was misguided to make the creative decisions that they have. That they are somehow casting aside all the fans of FF7 and making this for people that weren't hot on FF7's design and gameplay to begin with. Which is simply not true.

Chibi characters and wacky environmental proportions.

Like ole days!

I'll take it. However they want to do a map I can choose what direction I want to go in I'll take. I'm not worried about in town at all. Midgar looks great so far. Can't wait to see Junon, Cosmo Canyon, Wutai, Nibleheim, Rocket Town etc.

I don't like it.

The third person view takes from the art design of the original. Midgar looks like a hollow husk of its original self, just as I feared. I like character redesigns, especially Barret's, but the battle system doesn't look appealing at all.

I always knew that when and if they did a remake that it'd probably lose the heart that made the game so amazing: the camera angles, the detail in the houses, the litter on the streets. The battle system for this game should be a back to basics approach, but more modernized, and instead they gave it FFXV's battle system.

I'm just not feeling it. Seeing Jessie and Biggs and Wedge is HD makes me squee though.

He hasn't been in charge of FF--I assume you meant the franchise, not the game--since Sakaguchi left.

When the remake was announced, it was confirmed that Nomura was working on it.

I was being facetious.

I have no idea.

Now that you phrase it like that, I agree with you. I do, however, think you underestimate the old audience / new audience overlap. It's only a very small minority that say they will not buy this because of changes to the combat.

like how can people not see that? It's not about Nomura's vision, (lol) it's mostly about selling the game to people who can't or haven't played the original and have only enjoyed the compilation and AC.

Well they've shown solid gameplay already so maybe development is coming along decently.

Er, maybe because they are no longer limited by the hardware? Why not change it?

This logic that the remake isn't targeted to FFVII fans is fucking baffling. Listen to yourself.

Nomura had heavy input in all of the titles in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. It started with him directing Advent Children, after all.

So glad they went action, instead of just redoing menu turn based.

One big question though, and I'm not sure this has been answered yet. With the style and point of views exploration looks like in the trailer, it makes me wonder if the world map/overworld has been scrapped as well. If so, I'm not sure I'd like that or not, because so much of the fun of FFVII was exploring the overworld and finding secrets. Knights of the Round, Emerald and Ruby, etc.

Just screen to screen exploration would kinda be meh IMO, but I'll always play it before I judge.

They are doing that, though. Why change a classic unless they think it'll make more money?

Turn based games have released after 1997 and still release today. There is nothing stopping square from releasing a faithful final fantasy 7 remake. But that wouldn't make enough money because not enough people like the original final fantasy 7, so they changed things so it would hit a larger audience.

I said Wow!!

Love the new mechanics and free combat, bringing the turn based from 1997 to 2016 is not a clever idea by today's standards.

ITT: Kingdom Hearts combat system is not insanely popular.

I think the people nit-picking the width of Cloud's arms, the skin tones, eyebrow thickness and random stuff like that are the people who care maybe a tad bit too much about random things.

I think if they stuck with a completely identical ATB battle system they'd actually disappoint more people than they'd excite, so I think this is the right move. Additionally, I want this game to play sufficiently differently than the original anyway, because it's a different game.

Just please keep the Materia system.

if they REALLY wanted to target the original fans, for starters, they would've had Kitase direct and hired Sakaguchi as a consultant. but alas...

Why do people think it's an Action RPG?

We see no controlled movement and no manual aiming at all. It's most likely command-based with very dynamic visuals ala FFXIII.

Jesus christ people need to chill. This is a mix between a remake and a reimagining. I'm super glad that they changed the gameplay from turn based to KH/Versus 13 command menu style.
