I agree! That's why they've changed it from the original FF7. It's a new game wearing the face of an old one. That's why people are upset.
But why ? The original still exists, hell it's just been rereleased, again.
And if you just want the old game with better textures and models but still exactly the same thing, that would just be creatively bankrupt on one hand for a license just as this (hence my original comment, as i'm actually happy for once we're not just retreading always the same things since the media, not only games but movies though, doesn't like to do anything original anymore), and just stupidly foolish for SE that would just gate itself on a hugely expensive project that yes, is renewing itself for a new audience. It's not just our baby anymore you know, other people are allowed to enjoy something as big as this, and it just turns out they like different things. Not saying if we'd have ATB i would've bitched. I would've liked it just fine, but i haven't kept my head in a hole for the last 15 years so i'm not surprised this was the direction
It's different yeah, kinda sucks we don't have ATB in this day and age anymore but seriously, being
mad about it with all the clear communication we had, and in this current context ? Yeah i'm taking the piss, and i'm calling out people who immediately shun the system as huge babies. Yes RE remake was incredibly succesful. Doesn't mean that something that changes a core mechanic (and even though, that changei s really not as big as people might think. COMBAT has been a core of final fantasy, but TURN BASED though was more of a remnant due to limitation of previous times. It's nice, but in no way was it "defining" to me. The encounters were important, not the mechanics). And saying it "changed genres"...really ? As long as we keep dialogue interactions, encounters, leveling and materia, it barely did. Unless you don't consider stuff like Secret of Mana to be rpgs as well. The whole "This is a different game wearing FF7's hat" is a complete construction based on almost nothing because mostly the combat isn't exactly the same.

R: You argue that turn-based combat is the core of the game. I argue that combat itself is the core of the game, but how it's done can be up to change as long as the power behind the encounter remains the same and we get to "experience" it with the same context

It doesn't even phase me that some people are disappointed that it's no longer ATB turn-based, but the few people trying to frame this as a dumbing down (some seemingly skirting around outright saying "FOR TODAY'S A.D.D. KIDDIES AMIRITE?") as though VII's original combat were deep or complex in any way really grinds my gears
Yeah that's the thing. There's a lot of people in this thread going "Wow not ATB ? In the trash it goes", like the new system is just complete garbage.
I would be pissed if we had no inclusion at all of materia or party members to control but so far there is no confirmation on that.
