Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Chunk 1 (CyberConnect2, UE4) Trailer, "PS4 Console Debut"

Would love to hear an interview talking about the character designs, mainly Cloud's. Cloud looks physically sick in the remake so I wonder if they're going to play up the radiation poisoning aspect.

Do we have any concrete proof that FF7R is using UE4, or is it just a speculation? And I don't mean about somebody from Square saying few years [?] back that they are not using Luminous for other projects. [why? Well A - plans change, B - they would not even hint about existence of FF7R project that way. They kept that project in secret extremely well.]

I like how FFVII remake completely overshadows FFXV now. Who even cares and as excited for the latter after this.

Can you stop shitting on FFXV in very single thread? You're becoming a joke poster, did the FFXV dev team kill your kitty?

The FFVII hype train is going do to the opposite of what you're hoping for, it's going to rekindle the mass audience interest over the series after the XIII's trilogy dark age. S-E will use FFVII's popularity to regain the people's excitement for the series.

As for the game I'd love some DLCs, like a side story where you play as the Turks.

SE already said FFVIIR didn't use Luminous so unless they plan to go back their disaster engine, Crystal Tools or they develop a new engine (unlikely), they have to use external engine. Only Epic games has Japan studio to support developers there so most people guess it uses UE4

Open world like maybe? That way they can also include the vehicles.

Edit: Though I would also very much prefer having an overworld.

Open world probably isn't gonna happen.

I guess an overworld map like Type 0

They deconfirmed that like 2 months ago, long after FF7R was revealed and in development.

I applaud your strength of will.
They released plenty of enjoyable & even great games during the PS360 days, they were just on handhelds (apart from Nier). Didn't really require all that much "strength of will" to remain optimistic that there's a chance they could at least somewhat sort out the problems that were affecting their console output, especially for someone who owned both the DS & PSP. Their problem was never that they suddenly lost all of the people who could design & develop enjoyable games, but more of a technical nature that started affecting/limiting talented people's quality of work.

My main points of interest are:

-How will they handle the transition from town/city to worldmap (we don't know how this will be in FFXV either)
-Style and scale of the worldmap, 1:1 like FFXV or large zones like in FFXII
-How will the full party be handled on screen?

I'm not too optimistic on this releasing Holiday 2017, unless FFXV is at a stage very soon where the development team can start transitioning over to VII in mass.

all I have to say:

Given that I've best FF7 7 times, I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw. Pretty much one of the only things that would get my tickled reaction.

I happen to like Steve Burton as Cloud. Did someone say he's a bad actor way earlier? Damn.

General Hospital interest back up ;)
I said I can't stand how hollow and slow his acting is. It is likely a directional thing due to how Cloud has been in past games with VA, somehow I doubt it will be any different here.... Just so monotone.

Yep, that was my thinking all along. It was the move to PS360 and Crystal Tool development which really crippled SE last generation, it really hugely delayed all of their projects, and so did XIV 1.0. I never doubted their talent as game creators, I just wish they didn't invest so much wasted time making proprietary engines. But now finally they're back on track, and will deliver some fantastic games!

How difficult would it be porting over assets from FFXV on Luminous over to FFVII if it was using a different engine, such as UE4?

I mean XV has the perfect template with a large worldmap and has the features you would expect in FFVII's worldmap.

Surely they can rework it to save a massive amount of time?

looks dope. still not feeling the combat tbh. ff7 original battle system was more about strategy and preparation.

This looks like it puts too much emphatise on fast reflexes. Still hyped for this release.

art direction is the perfect balance between realism and old school anime look.

Well, KHIII used Luminous in first place, then it switched to UE4. Only one year we already saw new footage and SE said development going quickly. So?

Kitase already stressed that strategy plays a part in the combat still, so I guess we'll see what that entails next year

Even if it was being done internally, SE has over 1000 employees. Which, as of their
current projects isn't confirmed.

I say CC2 is working on a large portion.

As for porting over assets, game development doesn't really work like that. You don't just bring over assets from a completely different team in a completely different engine.

It was too ambitious and it was obviously mired in production hell. I'm sad for what was lost, but let's face it, Tabata basically saved it.

We don't know any of this by the way, besides the fact that Versus production staff were not working on the game for a majority of the time because they were pulled to different projects, including FF14 1.0 and 2.0.

That's why Nomura was working on KH projects in the mean time, they didn't just sit back and let him twiddle his thumbs for 7 years. He could not make the project, it has nothing to do with Tabata coming in and 'saving' the project, there was a switch from the higher ups.

Plus, if they thought Nomura wasn't a good director or didn't do his job right, they would not have put him in charge of their biggest Final Fantasy name as a remake.

Maybe if XV team is already using an external modeling tool like Maya to create their assets and then port them in Luminous, I don't see why they won't be able to do that with UE4.

Looks good, but I didn't have any doubt it wouldn't. I won't lie, I'm a little disappointed that the battle system doesn't appear to be a straight out turn based like the original. The menu in the bottom left corner gives me hope for some sort of hybrid turn based/action system.

I still think the game is a long time away though. What we just saw, is literally just the first 30 minutes of the game.

I'm definitely excited though, just please SE, don't change too much more of this game. I don't think I could handle it if the over world is non existent.

Would be sad if there is no over world.

I was thinking about this a lot. As much as I don't like to admit it, it might look strange if they do a giant representation of your character (based on scale of map) walking across the face of the continents like in the original. Also, if they did that how would they handle battles? There would have to be either random or more likely visual representations like Tales...but that would mean transitions into battle screens.

Or they could do an open world setup and keep the behind the character perspective of the trailers. If it's open world you could have enemies roam the map around you, and later have the highwind fly around the same map like flying in GTA / Just Cause. I think it would be hard to get the scale right though. What I really don't want is corridor like transitions between towns a-la the Mi'ihen Highroad in FFX

I'm really fond of Steve Burton as Cloud, but I absolutely agree, he can be pretty monotone. (I love George Newbern, too, but you put Sephiroth and Cloud in a scene together and they try and out monotone each other!) I do think it must be a direction Burton gets for adult Cloud, because I remember being really pleasantly surprised by what a great job he did with the younger Cloud in Crisis Core. Cloud is such an earnest, awkward teenager, especially when talking to Zack in the inn in Nibelheim. Burton is so great there, it's such a shame that adult Cloud becomes so stilted.

I'm assuming the VA work done for the trailer was an understandable rush job like FFXV's demo. I really, really hope they get a good voice director for the remake.

This isn't FF7 anymore, who played the original game should agree with me, but it does look awesome, will we get it on PC or Xbox One too? Whenever it'll be ready of course

Holy shit. You know, the whole time I was watching FFvXIII footage and playing the FFXV demo I was thinking this would make a perfect engine to remake FFVII in. I never thought it would actually happen though. I'm amazed.

What's with the shades on Barrett though? Don't wear your sunglasses at night. It's not cool.

As someone who doesnt play a lot of rpgs because of random take your sweet ass time turn battles im definitely okay with this.

But i can see why fans of the game are upset.

Not really. Wasting time on showing off the luminous engine over and over, the broken state of FFXIV 1.0, letting Toriyama run amuck with FF13 and its sequels, the awfulness of The 3rd Birthday, the utter contempt they had for Bravely Default and its developer, Final Fantasy All The Bravest - it was an embarassing gen.

I blame Wada.

I played the original countless times and I don't agree with you. Theory busted?

Of course it's not FF7. It's a remake. But I'm just glad that they are trying this. It's the game that will make my life complete.

So far it looks promising if you ask me. Not my dream remake, but I feel that they are definitly on track. Hell, I don't even know what my dream remake would be, I'm just happy to spend time with some old friends.

Some fans. I'm a fan of FF7 too, and i say this new game should not explicitly follow the original, atleast in these respects.

Not this fan.

Besides, the original experience is available in more ways than it has ever been. Fans have no reason to be upset.
