Final Fantasy VII PS4 |OT| One last time before the remake

We're no strangers to fucking fans
You know the rules and so do I
An action game is what I'm thinking of
You wouldn't get this from any other company
I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling
Gotta make you understand

Never gonna buy your crap
You always let you down you've finally made me run around and hate you
Always gonna make you cry
Time to say goodbye
Always telling lies and hurt you

We've known each other for so long
Your heart's been aching but
You're too dumb to say it
Inside we both know what's been going on
We know the game and we're gonna play it
And if you ask me how I'm feeling
Don't tell me you're too blind to see

Never gonna give you up
Always gonna let you down
Gonna make it an action game
Always gonna make you cry
Final fantasy 7 say goodbye
Always gonna tell a lie and hurt you

For a new page

I assume the answer is no but does this game support 5.1 or 7.1? Would like to know what setting to set my ps gold headset to

I'm still playing through The Witcher 3... Fallout 4 was next up on the list but I'm kind of tempted to dive into this next instead to mix things up... Hmm.

You know the 3x mode, what does it do? Does it speed EVERYTHING up like animations, the works? Or just exp gain rate and stuff?

It speeds everything up gameplay wise except for music/sounds so you get trough trash mob fights faster for example.

And as a huge FF7 fan I think it's great. To each their own.

It's fine if you're OK with it, but that doesn't change the fact Square-Enix is making people spend $10 for the worst edition of the game.

It was the worst edition on PC on the first release, the worst on the second release, and it's still the worst edition in 2015.

People saying "oh but the music and ambience."

The PS1 edition on emulator sounds just as good on the same sound systems. It's just people didn't even bother to try it.

Have you guys seen the battle swirl in FF VII PC/PS4? It's fucking hideous. The menus 15 fps is crap. It objectively plays worse than the PS1 version and 18 years later it still objectively plays worse than the PS1 version.

That's... crazy.

And those problems aren't in the PS1 edition you can play at 4K or 8K resolutions if you really wanted to.

And yea, "but achievements." I heard that one already too.

Someone tell me how I perform the Highwind Theme on Tifa's piano. They changed the control scheme, shoulder buttons are no longer used for piano.

What are the correct inputs now?

They aren't and it looks like its doing well by itself

I get you. I could have picked up a PS1 copy on eBay and emulated it on my laptop. I didn't. Why? Convienance. I game on my PS4 soley hooked up to my TV and many just like the click - buy - done mentality. And that's entirely fine.

Square could have priced this higher or not done the initial discount period and not included the theme - sure they could have fixed a few niggles or improved it more but the market will decide if its worth it. If it was so bad it would have driven more to emulate

I'm at work right now and just want to get home to continue my save.

It's like I'm 13 years old again.

Next up is the whole Cosmo Canyon part.

For people playing on large TVs/Screens.How do the backgrounds look on this version of the game ?

Way nicer than the PC release. They seem pretty clean to me overall and not full of the pixelation on PC one, which was very repulsive. I'm on a 55" Samsung Plasma and it looks great.

What are you on about? It runs fine. Actually, there's a benefit of shorter load times. Otherwise it plays pretty much identical. Graphics are smoother too. Your objectively wrong about it being the 'worst version.'

I'd forgotten how epic the game is, the way things happen and the events are framed. Just got to the part where they drop the saucer section. You arrive on the scene just in time and you can see shit's going down. It's not like flat you go here and then activate this quest and then stuff happens, the way most games seem to do it now. Loads of the game is like that, it feels more alive because of it.

Oh wow that's very encouraging!

I am on a 32" screen.So I guess I have little to worry about!

I can agree here. I am playing on a rather large tv; the backgrounds hold up fairly well. They are a bit blurier, but that is the price to pay, I suppose.

I also don't know why people want to play this stretched out to 16:9. 4:3 is how this game was designed, and it would look godawful stretched out any more.

You and me both. I have no idea how I'm going to find the time to balance playing this, Xenoblade, Rogue Galaxy, and R6. Especially when all I want to do is play through FFVII despite doing everything in it multiple times. I'm legit terrified for my social life once the remake is out. Even more so if it manages to capture the same magic as the original.

This is my first time playing FF7 ever, it's pretty interesting so far, just got to naming Aeris.
I get the feeling this game is going to be looooooong.

It's funny, there's a certain magic to the way characters were written back in those days. I think this was Sakaguchi's influence. A lot of characters have simple dialogue, but they are written in a way that gives the game more character.

Something I hope they notice while they are remaking this game.

One thing that I always loved was Barret and his "@$&$?&" cursing. Curious to see how they'll handle that.

I wish I could play this for the first time again.

Although I guess that's kinda what FFVIIR is gonna be, a new first time. Neat.

Just started the game (90min in). First time for me (know a lot and saw a lot of it, because a friend played it soooooo many times). Fun game. This and Rogue galaxy .... Now I don't want to go to work tomorrow :(

There's an energy, a vibrancy, to this game's pacing and presentation that far exceeds the modern mainstay. It feels less a game and more an experience. It's what I've come to desire since I was 11 -- since this game first came into my life. It's what I want to see from the contemporary titles I play.

How long ago has it been since you played it FF7?

It's been nearly 6 years for me, so it pretty much feels like doing it again for the 1st time lol

Even though I know this is a port of the pc version what are the odds of getting a 2x speed mode? 3x is great but too fast. 2x will make this game run perfect.

I think it's been about a year. I play it to 100% every 2 years or so. And I'm still thinking about buying this version now anyway :D

The menu cursor doesn't run at 60fps like the PS1 version does, so it's time to go on a crusade about it. That's his beef, as if that one aspect outweighs the pile of improvements that these ports bring.

I mean, really, the game itself is running at like 18fps during battles -- does it really matter at that point if the menus aren't running at 60, simply because they did in the PS1 version? Come on.

I have a 55" 4K TV and the game looks really great on it, much better than using my PS3 to play the PS1 disc that I have. I'm so happy. The sale price is what really got me, and that theme!! This is literally my 5th or 6th time purchasing FF7 for different platforms, and while that may make me a sucker, I don't care. Worth every penny to me

EDIT: Additional benefit! My Sony TV from this year doesn't add much in the way of additional input lag when using their frame interpolation system (MotionFlow). It goes from 33 ms in game mode to like 60 ms with that processing. For fast paced FPS, it's no good, but for games like this, it's totally fine and adds a negligible amount of input delay. So the game appears to be 60 fps to me (and when tweaking settings to add the Soap Opera Effect, even higher)

I see we've moved on from the text filter to the... speed of the menu cursor? Really?
