Final Fantasy VII PS4 |OT| One last time before the remake

OK, I'm going to be honest. In part I bought this just to see how it held up and didn't really think that I'd get a proper play through out of the game.

I'm now nearly four hours in and I'm so happy with it and it's looking like this is probable;y going to be my main game for a while. Really wasn't expecting this, I'm enjoying to now just as much as I did the first time I played it nearly 20 years ago.

I love the Materia system, it just seems to work so much better than any of their other systems for me and I already want every materia and getting them all up to maximum level.

It's good that there's been such a long gap between this time and the first time I played it as I don't really remember things until they actually happen and I usually on;y have a hazy recollection of the events.

I feel exactly as I did when I played it the first time, I really can't explain just how much I am enjoying it. :)

You realize that people have been cheating for trophies/achievements for almost 8 years now right? There are complete save sets out there that will pop them as soon as you load them up.

Your trophies have no value to anyone but you.

I have all the fucking versions that exist already...

It's not just about trophies doe but breaking the game balance. I know nobody gives a shit about the trophies I get but when I get a platinum on a game I want to feel like I earned it without having to restrict myself of using tools the game has.

Like with this attitude you cannot ever again review games based on too easy difficulty, just make up restrictions for yourself and don't play the game with the tools it presents to you.

In my opinion the god mode thing devalues the whole game. If you disagree that's fine.

You really don't have to use the cheats. But some people have beat this game plenty of times and might not want to spend all that time grinding or running around.
 
I will say I wish there were a way to make the cheats further away than a single click of the right stick. I won't use them (despite playing through the game a dozen times; I just don't enjoy cheats personally) but it'll be pretty easy to accidentally heal.

Re: trophies I don't really have anything to say as I don't care for them. Except that, yeah, they should really only hold value to the user; cheats have existed for them forever.

As far as I can remember this isn't a dual analog stick game. Was the ps1 controller even updated with analogs sticks yet at the time of original release?

What else is mapped to the right stick (besides r3) that you would need to use it and risk accidentally pressing r3?

After playing this game 15 times since 1997. I don't want to sit through slow animations of Heidegger walking up to President Shinra. All the little nuisances that made the game longer has been reduced with 3X SPEED.
 
Oh ho I love turbo mode. I also like no encounters. The option to turn this on and off on the fly is what every JRPG should do now. Make replaying the game feasible with limited time. Thank the gaming gods.

Indeed, it's fantastic. Bravely Default had super in-battle speed and toggling encounter rates on/off, and it's something I'd love to see more RPGs adopt.

The cheating system with the R3 button is fine for those who want to use it. If they port FF8 over to PS4, by all means keep this in.

If you dont cheat then surely you will still value the achievement? If you measure your own achievements by comparing them to what others have done then life will be pretty tough, in which case trophies are the least of your worries. Either way, your view doesnt really make sense as a balanced opinion.
 
Is anyone playing this by streaming it to their vita? If so how is it? I have never used that function before but it seems perfect here.

edit: also i cant find this game on the german sen store. is it not up on the website yet?
edit2: nvm that second question. still curious about the vita thing though,
 
You can't "mod it to widescreen," the original background artwork was made for 4:3 and there is no missing information on the left and right. You could fake it by zooming in and cutting off the top and bottom, which IS losing visual information just to force the game to conform to the aspect standards of a completely different medium.

There is absolutely no reason for this game to be anything but 4:3. Just like The Shining.

So you can disable random encounters in areas as well?

The OP isn't very informative on these new editions at all. 3x speed, what is actually sped up?

Haven't played this game from start to finish in probably 12 years?

So I'm excited to get back.

And being able to disable random encounters? and speed up time?

Fuck yes. This is going to take so much time out of grinding for platinum. I'm happy.

I don't care what other people do with the game. What personally nags me is that the option is there, every battle. Let's say I'm on a boss and in a situation (that I got myself into) that the only thing that will save me is the R3 button. Will I press it? Probably YES. I will press it to save myself. If it wasn't there, just beyond one simple button press, I would play by the intended rules of the game.

It's not even an option for ''easy mode'' or something when you start the game. It's not a password you imput and commit to. It's one button press away, always there. It's a panic button in the back of my head that I cannot disable and it chances the feel of the game I love for the worse.

This is the same thing whenever there is some totally overpowered spell in an RPG that breaks the game balance. ''Just don't use it''. Sure, but that doesn't change the fact that the balance of the game fuckin sucks.

Now I am all for making some things in older games more streamlined or accessible. As I've said before multiple times the x3 speed button is an ok addition. But having a classic game like this and adding ''I win'' button, literally one button, grinds my gears.

Now I'm not accusing anyone for using it, as I said I'll probably end up using it in some situation too. If you think it's a great addition, cool. But for me personally? I only see the negative sides of this. I just hope you see my point of view. Does this make me a crazy person? Maybe, but that's how I feel.
 
I stopped last night at the Shinra building. I thought it would take me a lot longer to get through all the Midgar parts. I think the first time I played I over leveled like crazy.

Hope ya'll are enjoying it as much as I do every playthrough.
