Lord that scene is bad. Like why the fuck would they just be using their arms while completely standing still. Worst part of the entire saga.
I honestly think the lowest point in the saga is the 3PO assembly line scene. It just looks like a CGI cartoon movie and resembles absolutely nothing inside of the SW universe. It's just completely laughable now (for the wrong reasons) and the forced humor is embarrassing. Immersion breaking.

My entire group of friends doing the marathon with me was dying of laughter
Probably my least fav lightsaber duel. Even the Episode 3 one with them was better.

What the hell???

Why does the spoiler thread have more replies than the OT?

Have people seen it?
Well, it just got more spoilers that's making that thread go wild now.

I remember the laughter of the audience when Yoda started flipping around. I did quite the facepalm.
I was shocked to see him hold a lightsaber when I 1st saw that movie.

Are the leaks confirmed in any way?

I think its pretty funny that people like spoilers so much. I remember there was one guy on gaf a few weeks ago that couldnt stop posting "GUYS, ITS LEAKED ALREADY ALRIGHT? THE WHOLE MOVIE! ITS ON THAT OTHER THREAD"

Everytime some one mentioned "Spoilers" he was there

It feels he was kinda proud of having read spoilers or something

Well, the thing is, most of the biggest leaks happened before the 2nd trailer, and then were basically confirmed by that trailer, and none of the trailers since then have conflicted with what those leaks said.

Personally, I don't give a shit about spoilers, and my curiosity got the best of me. I studied film in college though, where basically every class was spoilers for films I hadn't seen 24/7, and professors were constantly banging the 'spoilers don't matter' drum, so I became immune.

the reaction of people around here was the complete opposite, curiously enough. Hell, even some of my closest friends believe Yoda vs Dooku to be a highlight. I respectfully disagree with them and it looks that's that.

I legit feel the Threepio "comedy" in the wretched factory sequence in Episode 2 is the nadir of the series. Worst than anything Jar Jar does in Episode 1.

And his "What a drag", as his disembodied head is carted around, is my least favorite individual moment in the totality of the Star Wars cinematic universe, give or take a couple sequence in the Holiday Special. Real talk.

The theater I was in went batshit insane when Yoda pulled out a saber and started an applause/cheering. It was entertaining to witness the reaction, but man that is a stupid fight. Hardly the worst of what's wrong with the prequels, of course.

that DMCA Disney thread is kinda spoilery. Doesn't take much for one to piece together why Disney is trying to stop what they're trying to stop. I wouldn't go in there if I was someone trying to stay clean

It was definitely a mix of excitement and laughter. There was some cheers in there. When he first came out with the lightsaber I was even like "ohhh shiiit" and got goosebumps. But when the flipping and grunting began it turned in to excited laughter followed by an awkward feeling of "what the fuck just happened".

But ya. After the movie you could hear lots of people talking about how stupid it was.

Exactly. That line was icing on the cake for the worst scene in SW history. When I rewatch the prequels, I still can't believe it exists. Not gunna lie, I had to look up nadir and started busting up upon reading the definition.

Done with my ESB rewatch, still a classic. Glad that's the movie with the least amount of obtrusive tinkering.

Man. I won't be able to see this until 2nd weekend because of business trips and family parties...I feel like people are dying to spoil shit (not in here)

That describes my experience perfectly. Initially excited, eventually confused. I have complete confidence there won't be this flavor of blatant stupidity in TFA.

People who actively look for spoilers for this are weird.

I can't understand it

TBH I don't mind it as it won't have as big affect on me when I watch the actual movie as it's still going to feel fresh for me on a 1st time viewing.

It was like number 4 on igns top 10 lightsaber fight. They praised that part. Crazy.

to be fair, they're trying to make that fight work with a really REALLY old Christopher Lee.

What really doesn't hold up from that fight (a lot of it doesn't) is the super bad CG used to replace the stuntman's face with Christopher Lee's. It's so bad

If I correctly remember a making of documentary from just before or after aotc was released, they said they wanted to make this fight more reminiscent of the lightsaber duels from the OT which were slower, like the one with earth Vader and obi one in ANH. One of the gripes brought up about the first film was - why the hell was the duel in PM so acrobatic, yet none of them were acrobatic in episodes 4-6.

Even with that reasoning, that fight still sucks.

I honestly have to say that despite ignoring The Clone Wars TV series, mainly because the art style put me off for some reason, I'm glad I gave it shot. It's been terrific so far and half way through season 2 and honestly the show does such a better job with Anakin and the actor portraying him is great...to the point that I really don't want to sit through Episode II or III for a saga re-watch before Thursday. lol

I think George explained it as the Episode 4-6 duels as being either between two old dudes, or between an old half-man half-robot and a young dude without much training.

I recall hearing others explain it as the PT Jedi, especially in Episode I, having access to more power through the Force than the Jedi would later, with the "dark shroud" of Palpatine taking away some of their power.

Personally, I don't really worry about the differences.

yep, for me the prequel era now starts and ends with the Clone Wars show, it's fantastic.

You know.. I'm starting to get a little worried. Not for the movie itself, but merely the fact that we're all (people who aren't seeing it on the 16th) at the mercy of whoever is around us at the theater. There could easily be a car full of people who drive by shouting spoilers, or even people in line talking about everything right next to you. I really hope this doesn't happen. Other than that, I'm 100% excited and hyped for this film and have been for a long, long time now..

My biggest fear is that while I'm waiting in line for the movie some asshole who has either seen it or read the spoilers spoils the movie for people by rattling off plot points/ reveals.

Yeah pretty much. They also changed their thinking on the lightsabers themselves in the OT too. Originally in A New Hope the idea of wielding a lightsaber was supposed to be that they were so heavy, like a broadsword, that it required both hands on the hilt. They changed the thinking of this up for ESB though. lol

Shit your right. I haven't thought of that

i wish my dad was still alive to see this:/ he was the biggest star wars fan

He'll see it through your eyes then. When the new Star Trek came out I suddenlyl was filled with tears at the beginning, thinking about my best friend who passed away many years ago. We were both into Trek in a big way.
I turned the experience of seeing a new film as a great way to remember my lost loved one.

Ive said it a few times but if you use twitch.tv do not go in the chat of any stream that has an active flowing chat, they dont just spam game spoilers but movie ones/tv shows and you better believe there will be copy pasted SW spoilers in chats that you will randomly see.

When I say spam I mean 10-15 messages in under a few seconds with the same spoilers, you cant unsee it if you look at the chat.

Looks like I'm seeing this movie twice...
  1. Thursday night (7pm CST) in IMAX 3D
  2. Saturday night at a local theater
One of them will be for my little bro & the other will be for my date. Should I keep my little bro for Thursday night & my date for Saturday (under the "family comes first" mentality) or should I switch them around?

Keep little bro for that IMAX goodness.

Coziness of local theatre is perfect for the date.

I think it's quite easy to ignore without even having to invent explanations like how much Force power they have. The prequels are all fights between experienced Jedi/Sith at the height of their powers and physical prowess.

Then in the OT you have:

Obi-Wan vs Vader – Old guy who's going to sacrifice himself vs old guy who's mostly machine with dramatically reduced Force potency.

Luke vs Vader 1 – Greenhorn with little training in his first proper duel against the old cyborg who's only toying with him and doesn't intend to kill him.

Luke vs Vader 2 – A still-inexperienced Luke and neither of them really wants to kill the other.

This was my original plan, but I wanted to make sure that I made the right call. Usually my little bro & I see every MCU film together, but I really want to add Star Wars to the family tradition.

The reason Dooku chops off Anaken's arm was because Anaken was getting the better of him and he had to end the fight quickly. Notice how Dooku always bests Obi-Wan quickly. His Saber skills were on point, which make Anaken being able to hang with him all the more impressive. Notice how Dooku looks winded after the fight with Anaken.

People always rag on Yoda having a lightsaber but what was he supposed to use force pushes and harse langauge? Jedi have lightsabers, Sith have lightsabers. You really think the Sith would let the Jedi be the only ones with that kind of Tech? When did people start hating and? Sidious has lightsaber and Force lightning. Deal with it...if you can!

I never really saw the issue of Yoda having a lightsaber. He's an old Jedi master with wisdom that puts most to shame. Of course he would be proficient with a lightsaber in his prime (or somewhat prime, since he seemed to be pretty old in the prequels....correct me if I'm wrong).

I wasn't a fan of Yoda becoming a lightsaber-wielding maniac (though it was a cute little novelty moment that made everyone freak) but the fight between him and the Emperor in III redeemed that for me. It's better than the Anakin/Obi-wan duel and one of my favorites in the series. Palpatine was one terrifying dude even if he hammed it up to 11.

Anticipating this film makes me forget I have a PoliSci final the day before rele--

Oh shit, I have a PoliSci final.

i'm done with finals for the semester today. bless up.

gonna do a star wars marathon over the weekend. mulling over whether or not i want to throw in the prequels as well. I'm worried i might be sick of the franchise by the end of it and that's not a good mindset to have going into this movie. i might just skip attack of the clones. phantom menace and revenge of the sith at least have a few good things about them.

Actually would've been a lot more badass if he did. Shows his powers are beyond "petty" lightsaber duels.

I clicked on that thread and almost regretted it

Soon I will have to avoid gaf

I've almost been soiled a couple of times for different movies by idiots talking about what happened in the movie as they're leaving the theater. So now I put some headphones on and listen to some music until I'm actually seated.

EDIT: I mean spoiled lol

Is the Clone wars movie worth cheking out before the tv show?

I've only watched the animated show that was released before Ep. 3, what do you think about that one?
