I think I got a major plot point spoiled by someone on my work group on WhatsApp. It was only a question, but fuck man....he didn't think to keep it to himself. I want to ask (in spoiler tags) if its a real spoiler but I don't know where, to see if its true. Can I ask in here??

use the spoiler thread + spoiler tags

People in this thread were talking down those who read the leaked shot list and thus the entire plot of the movie? Come on, thats nonsense. Nothing wrong with reading spoilers if that is your thing. I am positive it will make me enjoy the movie MORE that I have read them since I am not going to go in with insane fanboy theories and be salty when they don't happen.

I booked my ticket yesterday. 2 PM local time (Sweden) on Wednesday it happens. Hopefully such an early showing should alienate presence of screaming children.

Wouldn't it be better to leave Schrödinger's cat in the box and not find out until you see it for yourself?

I'm one of those people that once an idea is in my head I'd be sitting through the whole movie just waiting for the reveal or whatever. Really ruins the experience for me. Luckily I found out it was complete bollocks so I'm all good.

I can definitely understand reading them. It ensures you're not expecting something that's never going to happen and I'm actually ok with knowing a few bits and pieces, many of which I suspected anyway. But personally I'd hate to know the exact order of events and the entire plot. It would take all the element of surprise away. When that synopsis was put together, I decided to stop reading anything unofficial. I don't understand why people would talk down to those who do decide to read them though.

I'm guessing I need to leave this thread to avoid spoilers.

All been okay in here so far.

I wonder how far in advance tickets are sold out here. I'd like to see it sometime before February.

EDIT: Nevermind. I assumed it was, but there are single seats spread around even on opening day. I'm surprised.

I legit feel the Threepio "comedy" in the wretched factory sequence in Episode 2 is the nadir of the series. Worst than anything Jar Jar does in Episode 1.

And his "What a drag", as his disembodied head is carted around, is my least favorite individual moment in the totality of the Star Wars cinematic universe, give or take a couple sequence in the Holiday Special. Real talk.
I too enjoy the reviews at Antagony and Ecstacy. :)

Out of the 800 or so posts, maybe a handful were along the lines of "I don't understand why people want to spoil themselves," while one, in either a misreading of another post or perhaps just using that post to launch into something else kind of went in on a certain kind of spoiler weenie, who unfortunately do exist and are the worst. You'll survive, Cheebo.

Personally, I don't really give a shit about spoilers (spoiled as hell for this move without even trying) yet at the same time also don't give a shit about some dweebs at a website getting their comeuppance for getting their reporting on other people's work wrong, so I don't really know where to post. Maybe I'll just bump the Yub Nub thread.

So Star Wars: The Force Awakens reviews are being embargoed until the Wednesday before release. Should we be concerned for the quality of the movie, or is is to prevent spoilers from getting out too soon?

It's always a risk to allow pre-release reviews, so studios are going to weigh this up versus the good publicity which would accompany positive reviews. I think Disney has realised in this case that the number of additional viewers they'll gain from positive reviews is probably substantially smaller than the number they'll lose it if it's reviewed poorly; I don't think the decision is necessarily indicative of any belief about the film's quality on their part.

5 days to go!

I also think it's to help mitigate spoilers but yea I don't think Disney is worried about this film. It's going to make a lot of money. Embargo or not.

TO THE NON-SPOILED

I offer you the same services I offer my co-hosts on Full of Sith: If you're worried about maybe possibly being spoiled, or concerned that maybe you have been spoiled, but you don't want to ask out in the open, or go looking for an answer on the internet and get yourself into deeper trouble?

Just PM me.

I'll be your spoiler shield.

I don't understand why people want to know whether they've been spoiled... if someone told me e.g. Dumbledore shows up in the movie and I wasn't sure whether it was a spoiler or not then I would still have that element of surprise and wonder going into the film.

I know! But I've been seeing people basically super-nervous & stressed about it, and I figured I'd offer to help out. So if they feel like they HAVE to ask, but they're also being considerate enough that they don't want to ask in public for fear someone else will get put in the same position they're in, PM me and I'll let you know if you're safe or not.

I'll also say this: Most of the time, the answer is "no, you haven't been spoiled" because a lot of people are fairly full of shit, heh.

I heard some speculation about some plot points a while back and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the stuff end up being true but since it was speculation I'd rather not know for sure.

How did things get spoiled anyway? Did people see the movie early or something?

The shot list got leaked back in February, and was slowly released bit by bit until April or so. The whole outline is out there. Though it's a bit barebones, it still gives you a good idea of the plot.

To those who read alot of spoilers for films do you still feel surprised in the film when stuff happens? By this I mean, I watch alot of trailers but that all goes out of my mind when in the film, I forget scenes ive seen before in prior media. Ive never really gone into a film knowing the whole plot though.

I'm getting conflicting reports...who is the credited artist on the final theatrical poster?

It wasn't Struzan, was it?

It was not Drew Struzan, no. It's not a painting at all.

To those who read alot of spoilers for films do you still feel surprised in the film when stuff happens?

Sure! There's a lot of stuff in a movie that can be surprising outside of the plotting. The choices an actor makes, the way an action scene is choreographed. And you're right, often there's stuff that will be completely forgotten until it actually happens.

Bobby, my man, tell me this: are there Stars, and will there be Wars?
