I've been on vacation in the Dominican Republic for the past two weeks. Fly back to England tomorrow morning and then I just need to wait about 12 hours until I see The Force Awakens (at midnight Tuesday/Wednesday.

The offensive changes is outright changing character arcs, dialogue and adding scenes that change the mood of an entire act.
CGI is whatever, changing the story is unforgivable.
Until the whole donating 4 billion dollars to charity thing, we're cool now George.

The Jabba scene in ANH is also a mind-boggling inclusion. Lucas really wanted it in because it introduces him as a character, but I remember when watching the movies as a kid, I kept guessing who Jabba was. That was part of his mystery, that he was mentioned a lot, but only shown in Jedi. That added scene is pointless, because it rehashes dialogue the Greedo scene already has. Plus, they had to change Ford's position digitally when he steps on Jabba's tail, and it looks so bad.
I'm actually curious if they'll call it "Episode VII" in the opening crawl, simply because they've avoided calling it Episode VII in all of the marketing
And if it's good, man when they cut to the end credits and that music too... Fuck.

Unfortunately I might not get to see it in IMAX because I slept too long on tickets. Oh well, at least I'll get to see it period!

I believe it's been mentioned multiple times they're going with Episode VII in the opening crawl, just like all other SW movies.

I bet they will. Movie logos (and sometimes even names) are often different as presented in the film than what's used in marketing material
I think the opening crawl will be the only part that will label the movie as Episode VII. That's what JJ Abrams said some time ago.
I imagine that'll get quite a few cheers in theaters across the world.

Long long time fan who grew up with the pre-SE's going back to the 80s vhs tapes. I prefer the SEs for well over 90% of the changes.
I can never go back to the old Vaseline on the lens for the landspeeder, matte boxes around the tie fighters, Biggs being virtually non-existent for the Death Star attack, and so on.

I somewhat envy all the people getting to see this Thursday night. I literally have to wait a full 24 hours to see it after you do lol.

You never know when someone will be an asshole. After the premier tonight and the critics screenings tomorrow, thousands of people will have seen it. Best to unplug now.
Those are all things I honestly don't notice, even watching the despecialized editions now. What I DO notice is some CGI animals ass being shoved in my face, totally obstructing my otherwise unobscured vision, animated X-Wings, horribly CGI'd and flatly revealed Jabba.. the list goes on. I'd definitely say the subtle changes to the theatrical version are largely overshadowed by the more blatant, overstuffed additions.

That opening crawl still has me scratching my head as to how Lucas thought it would be exciting to talk about taxes and trade routes.

I do think the only reason people give a shit about Yub Nub is because it was "the original" and shit on Victory Celebration because it was "the replacement". Had it been the other way, nobody would care about Yub Nub at all.

You should be fine here. Just keep in mind later tonight impressions from people who have seen the movie will start to filter out seeing as the premiere is tonight. Some of those impression may enter this thread though I doubt there will be spoilers.
You're probably right. This is so hard for me though. Today my boss literally caught me rolling on my office floor, loudly groaning "stoooooor wooooooors".
Yeah I'm cool with impressions. As long as they're limited to stuff like "Movie was awesome and your hype is justified you giant man baby you."

The feels when you're the only guy who genuinely likes Yub Nub.
The original trilogy were never referred to by their episode numbers until the prequels were released. I wouldn't worry about it. They only major change to the presentation that I'm expecting is maybe no more wipes. I'm okay with that.
