I don't know how anyone could be that hyped about premiere reactions

Literally every single world premiere ever (except Fantastic Four) has the same tweets

"OMG that was incredible thank you *director* for delivering!"

"Guys this movie is the real deal just wait until you all see it for yourselves "

Don't forget TASM2.

You know something's up if even the reactionary tweets are split or not 100% hyped.

I doubt that'll happen here. Hopefully.

True but it's all part of the hype machine. The reviews will be a different beast though. I'll avoid them because I'm sure assholes will spoil things.

That said unless the movie is a complete bomb it's going to take a bit before people really start thinking about how good the movie is and where to put it in ranking.

You know how earlier someone posited the idea that the line in LA wasn't really so much about camaraderie and experiencing the warm fuzzies of fandom, but was more about being visible and present so Lucasfilm would basically HAVE to invite them all to the premiere or risk looking like big meanies?

Well, I still don't know if that was the actual premise behind the line

But that's what just happened.
That's fucking awesome.

One of my coworkers is actually at the premiere. Can't pretend I'm not a bit jealous, but there's also something special about seeing it with the masses at 7:00 on Thursday. Not sure I'll ever be in a theater with a more excited audience.

I mean I'm still hyped to read people tweeting about a new SW film. Just not gonna put any stock in their evaluation. Curious to see how it resounds with critics, I was originally thinking a 75-85% on RT but then I see Revenge of the Sith is at 79 and I have to imagine this will be significantly higher?

yup. IMO part of seeing a big movie like this is seeing it in a full theater of like minded people excited as hell. It's going to be fun.

Hmm, 36 hours till I'll be seeing this.

I will admit, I was never a big Star Wars fan but I do appreciate them and I really like the movies. I should finish my rewatch and watch Episode II and III tomorrow.

I really like Rey, Finn and BB-8.

And The Force Awakens will be the second Star Wars film I watch in a cinema.

I definitely enjoyed Sith. I think with this new movie for a lot of people young and old. It's probably going to hit some emotional and nostalgic buttons. They are hoping it brings us back to a time when we first saw Star Wars and were just as amazed.

Now they have to bring all of this together cohesively while introducing us to the new cast it can work. I said before this movie can be a step up from ANH but just below Empire.

This movie can totally be ANH again. I feel it'll possible be better based off things we've seen and I feel there will truly be some emotional parts that if they can hit well will elevate this movie.

Ahhhh 3 days left! Planning to watch Ep 5 tomorrow and Ep 6 on Wednesday! Maybe i should watch Ep 6 on Thursday itself and then go watch TFA.

So excited guys, can't contain the hype

When Phantom Menace came out, did people know Palpatine was the Emperor from the other movies?

Yup, people hip to the EU anyway.

I did, but I can't remember how I knew. I think I might've read a special issue of a magazine that explained a lot of little details throughout the OT (this was around the time of the Special Edition VHS release) and that included the Emperor's name.

So by the time TPM came around, I knew Senator Palpatine would become the Emperor - that Darth Sidious thingie didn't fool me at all! :P

EDIT: I was a kid and I didn't know about the existence of the EU at all back then, anyway.

I thought it was pretty obvious. Wasnt he called Emperor Palatine in the movies?(Edit: He wasnt, but in the movie novelization that came out around the same time) Or at least with the toys? Ive just always know him as Palpatine, and then the voice and face as well. Only a "Phantom" to the characters in the movie. Regardless of where it was first said. even Ewok or Sith were never mentioned in the OT. It was very common knowledge to any fan.

That's not how RT works though. If every critic who like RotS like TFA a helluva lot more and every critic who disliked RotS also dislikes TFA, then it would still be a 79. I do expect it will be do better significantly higher puts you in the 90s. Not impossible but not necessarily inevitable either.

from what I could read by googling around, the name "Palpatine" first appeared in the ANH novelization and then used again in the ROTJ one - but never in the movies themselves until TPM

Don't forget the stupendously useless standby.

"Curious what I thought of #TFA? Can't wait to tell you this Wednesday. In a word: bam"

Well shit.

I'm hoping a miracle happens and I'll get to go to London's premiere.

Looking at Twitter and the World premiere looks dope. Security is insane though. Bomb sniffing dogs, metal detectors down the street before you can even get close to the venue...

Surprised Disney outright allowing Twitter reactions tonight. That's unusual. Maybe they are confident the reactions will be positive?

It's probably not something they can stop honestly especially if they just let fans into the premiere. That said I'm sure they are confident initial reactions will be good.

The review embargo is really just so reviews release at the same time. That's part of the marketing machine also. It dominates headlines.

ah just saw this comment, yeah, I updated my comment a bit since finding the same thing. Interesting enough, Ewok and Sith weren't used in the OT movies either. But the names have been well known since that time though 1977ish.

Members of the public are attending too. I mean, how do you stop all those people? The review embargo though is just because obviously not every critic lives in L.A so those screenings will happen tomorrow for them.

Oh you can't stop them, but I've never seen a company outright say "Yes, go ahead and post them." This could just be them trying to be proactive about it and not have to worry about it.

Their lives are at the very edge of transforming forever in ways the majority of us can scarcely imagine.

Godspeed, bless them all, no matter what comes next.

Yup. Their lives are about to change in a BIG way after tonight and even more so Thursday. They are about to be immortalized in our society and our culture probably forever.

Just finished Empire Strikes Back. Been a while but fuck me does it still hold up as one of the best sci-fi films of all time. It's just superb from start to finish. The whole OT is fantastic in my eyes but this one nudges it.

Return of the Jedi tomorrow and then The Force Awakens on Wednesday night.
