I might have already read something I shouldn't have, when I clicked on something about Facebook offering some special lightsaber filter for profiles, should have known. Lol.

Quickly clicked away and my poor memory will help me, I won't be able to see the movie for a few months anyway.

Before I make my point, I want my perspective to be very clear: LOVED Star Wars as a kid, to the point of reading expanded universe stuff. I'm 18 now, and I hate the prequels because I think they're bad, tonally inconsistent, and make everything too neat, but I've also watched all of the originals recently to get ready and I'm willing to admit that while they're still really good, they're not the flawless pieces of cinema they are in my mind now.

Now, because of my age, I was 3 when Phantom Menace came out, so I obviously have no memory of its release (I remember seeing Revenge in theaters but that's it), but from what I understand, when the movie first came out, everyone was really positive about it just because it was new Star Wars. It wasn't until people began to re-watch it and really think about it that they realized it's a dumpster truck on fire.

With all the positive impressions coming out of last night, are any of you worried about something similar? Of course early previews would be positive: it's a new Star Wars movie! And while I like JJ Abrams, I think that a lot of his movies kind of fall apart towards the end. Are you at all worried that you may love the first showing but later realize the new movie isn't that good? I'm curious to hear everybody's thoughts.

Stay off Twitter till you see it! Here's some non-spoilery stuff:

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS is ok. I know it's poetry, I know it rhymes, but does every line have to rhyme with the last poem?

THE FORCE AWAKENS proves JJ Abrams is an auteur: once again we have great characters, propulsive fun, sort of shitty, dumb story.

Last STAR WARS tweet: people excited about Captain Phasma need to temper their expectations immediately.

I'm just laughing at all the suckers that bought a Captain Phasma water bottle MONTHS ago. You haven't even seen the movie, you deadbeats!

Having just bought and build a LEGO Poe Dameron X-Wing without seeing the movie, I say, fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu it's still cool.

For the first time since 1983... Star Wars is back!

@rainnwilson
1st Star Wars review: it was epic, awesome & perfect. The cast was stellar. JJ killed it!

@RobLowe
There's a new hero in town, in a movie that DELIVERS. Cried like a baby, whooped like a teen! #StarWarsForceAwakens

@amy_hennig
J.J. nailed it. #StarWarsForceAwakens is wonderful.

@colliderfrosty
Not going to say much till I see it again but rest assured THE FORCE AWAKENS is the best STAR WARS since 1983...maybe 1980.

No hyperboles there, no sirree.

JJ's already said she doesn't play a big role in this film, but Kathy Kennedy hinted she could have a bigger role in the future.

Kinda reminds me of Boba Fett who is barely in the movies and yet a huge fan favorite.

While I love Star Wars, I think a lot of people forget that it's the OG franchise king of selling people merchandise. Much like the Marvel movies, they're giant commercials for the endless stream of junk people happily buy in droves. That's where the real money is!

Whats the problem?

I don't think Boba Fett existed just to sell toys. Just more weirdo McQuarrie shit. Phasma on the other hand feels like a means to sell silver stormtrooper toys!

Look guys I'm still hype and I WILL SAY that the devincf tweets come from a fellow who leaned hard on the "I'm ready to BELIEVE" bandwagon so this is a suitable conclusion for him!

In other words, it could still be what YOU wanted.

Kennedy's comments on Phasma from the LA Times.

The first female villain in a "Star Wars" movie, played by Gwendoline Christie (who made waves on "Game of Thrones" as Brienne of Tarth), is already setting sights high. Some are comparing Phasma to fan favorite Boba Fett. "Which means she makes a lot of impact but she's not at the forefront of the action all the time," Christie says.

But you won't see Phasma tapping out after being carelessly knocked into a sarlacc pit like a wobbly toddler. Kennedy has big plans for Phasma. "She's an important character, a baddie in the best sense of the word."

I expected a higher ranked Stormtrooper and that she is named Captain makes me very confident that my expectations will be fullfilled.

It made the prequel trilogy watchable to me again. I really hated the prequels (other than episode 3) before this. Poorly done fan edits can be very jarring with their cuts, but Hal9000 does a very professional job - the only time it is noticeable is when he re-inserts a deleted scene of inferior video quality to help the flow of the movie.

Ep. 1 had some very annoying characters and the Hal9000 edit makes one of them more like an everyman alien who gets caught up in things and just makes a few goofy mistakes while in the original his character made me want to gouge my eyes out with his constant ineptness and poor attempts at humor. The kid in episode 1 was also made much more tolerable without annoying yippie, whining, and made the kid more pro-active. The pacing at the beginning was much better by cutting out an unnecessary side trip and getting rid of crap that doesn't belong in a Star Wars movie - OH NO TAXATION! Also, it makes the minions of the trade federation more of a threat - they originally had cringy (roger roger) dialogue that made them seem like a joke.

Ep. 2 and 3 were also much improved. After the edits episode 2 is still not that great of movie, but the original version was nearly unwatchable. The flow is much better, the main character is no longer a whiny annoying teen and the romance is more believable/less sappy. It also got rid of one of the most ridiculous action scenes ever thank goodness and a part that felt like a frigging video game sequence. It is still worth watching as a setup for episode 3 (which is a very good film) and the Hal9000 version at least makes Episode 2 decent.

As for episode 3, I always enjoyed the original and feel like people shouldn't skip it even if they don't watch the other prequel movies. However, the original version did have pacing issues, some horrible dialogue, and some important characters had little to do in the film and others acted out of character. The Hal9000 edit fixes allot of that and makes it into a really entertaining film, although there is still the infamous NOOO!!!!! scene in it, lol. Hal9000 felt that scene was important and couldn't find a way to edit it better and not make it feel jarring. I really liked how the Hal9000 edit gave Padme something to actually do in the film other than standing around crying, and I liked how it made Anakin's struggle more internalized and not focused on only a single topic.

Ive googled these edits but I can't seem to find an easy way to watch them? Are they watchable for free online?

the only one of those that could even be hyperbole is Rob Lowe?

The movie sounds like a crowdpleaser for sure. I'm sure there will be many things to dissect but it looks like JJ has successfully restarted the Star Wars craze.

I'd say the only hyperbole is the guy calling it "perfect". What else is there?

Don't get me wrong, it would be amazing if it really is better or even on par with RotJ, but come on.. from what I heard it's on ANH levels.

Patton Oswalt enjoyed the movie though and that's all I need to know I'll be entertained when I'll see the movie and that's great.
